Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking
Chapter 287: You Know Perfectly Well
It was true, just as Vincent Holt had said—he didn’t believe Jane Lancaster would try to harm him.
But what if her original target had been Luna Morgan?
After all, she had already gone after Chloe Dave and the others. She even held a grudge against Sean Grant and ambushed him just for defending Luna Morgan. How could she possibly let Luna Morgan go?
If the original target was Luna Morgan, and he had just been accidentally caught in the crossfire, then everything would make sense.
Jane Lancaster found her answer in Caleb Lowell’s silence.
"I see," she said, her voice soft. "So this is the kind of person you think I am."
Caleb Lowell’s heart clenched. He had, after all, loved her deeply, and her expression made him panic a little.
"Jay, I’m not doubting you..."
Jane Lancaster looked up at him. "Then you believe I’m innocent, right?"
Caleb Lowell glanced at the school administrator beside them and nodded against his better judgment.
The truth was, he didn’t want to see her expelled from school, her bright future ruined in an instant.
As for the rest, given how much Timothy Lancaster doted on his daughter, he would surely offer a sincere apology to the other victims and resolve the matter.
"Zion, don’t let her fool you!" Vincent Holt said anxiously.
"Enough!" Caleb Lowell cut him off. "You have no evidence, so stop talking nonsense."
Chloe Dave pressed her lips together and said nothing. Caleb Lowell had clearly softened. He was determined to protect Jane Lancaster, so it wasn’t wise for her to oppose him directly.
Jim Jenson’s phone rang. Seeing it was a call from Old Master Jenson, he quickly answered.
"You bastard, are you trying to kill me with anger? Who told you to go to the school and cause trouble for Jane Lancaster?" Old Master Jenson cursed, furious. "Get your ass back here right now!"
Jim Jenson: "Dad, I’m the one who got beaten up for no reason. How can you say that?"
"Haven’t you caused enough trouble? You’ve offended so many people, how can you be so sure it was Jane Lancaster?" Old Master Jenson was completely unconvinced.
"Who else could it be?" Jim Jenson kicked the sofa in anger, drawing stares from the school officials.
Professor Lee shot the school administrator a meaningful look. The message was clear: they were just a bunch of arrogant, unreasonable rich kids.
The school administrator: "..."
He thought so, too, which only strengthened his belief that Jane Lancaster was innocent.
Jim Jenson calmed himself down and spoke into the phone, "Sean said it was her, too. If you don’t believe me, you don’t believe Sean either?"
Old Master Jenson was silent for a moment. "Even if she did do it, you will keep your mouth shut!"
Jim Jenson: "Dad, times have changed. Are you saying we’re still afraid of the Lancaster Family?"
Jane Lancaster found it strange, too. She felt there was a hidden meaning in Old Master Jenson’s words.
She couldn’t help but walk over behind Jim Jenson, perking up her ears to listen in.
"You don’t know how crazy Timothy Lancaster was back then. If you hurt his daughter, he would really drag everyone down with him to the grave..." Old Master Jenson paused, his tone growing heavy. "And don’t think the Timothy Lancaster of today is any easier to deal with. He’s even more terrifying than before..."
"Why do you think my dad is terrifying?" Jane Lancaster suddenly asked.
Jim Jenson whipped around and quickly covered his phone. ’Holy shit, she’s eavesdropping!’
"In short, do not provoke Timothy Lancaster..." Old Master Jenson was still trying to give instructions.
"I know, I know." He hung up perfunctorily and stared at Jane Lancaster warily. "What do you want?"
The school administrator cleared his throat. "Since there’s no conclusion to this matter, I’ll have to ask you all to leave."
He had decided this was all a farce. He’d long since disliked these rich kids, and since even Jim Jenson’s family didn’t believe him, why should they give him any face?
What did they take their school for? A pushover they could bully as they pleased?
"Lynn, take student Jane Lancaster to class," he instructed the counselor. After sending Jane away, he politely asked Jim Jenson and the others to leave.
As Jane Lancaster followed the counselor out, she felt that something was wrong with this plot.
’How did the school suddenly get such a backbone? I didn’t even get expelled?’
She frowned, not paying attention to the stairs, and nearly missed a step.
"Jay!" Caleb Lowell, who had been watching her intently, instinctively rushed forward.
Jane Lancaster grabbed the railing to steady herself, gave him a calm glance, and continued walking down.
But with just that one glance, the ice in Caleb Lowell’s heart instantly showed signs of melting.
The sky was overcast and the wind was strong, lifting the hem of her coat. Only then did he realize that after all this time he’d spent looking after her, she was still so thin.
Caleb Lowell didn’t know why, but watching her figure recede into the distance, he suddenly felt as if he were about to lose something precious.
This inexplicable panic made his chest feel tight. After a moment’s thought, he chased after her.
Jane Lancaster was still lost in thought.
’Sys, is this okay? This isn’t how the process is supposed to go.’
’Shouldn’t I have my future ruined first, then my reputation destroyed, and finally get kidnapped and killed by a car on a midnight street while trying to escape?’
A figure in her peripheral vision made her stop in her tracks.
"Brother?" she asked, her face full of surprise.
They had only been apart for less than an hour. How did he get to the school so quickly? Didn’t he have to work?
Julian Lancaster glanced at her, then looked away. He spoke politely to the counselor, "Teacher Finch, my apologies. Something came up at home today. I’m here to take Jay home; she’ll need to take a leave of absence from her classes today."
The counselor thought for a moment and figured it was for the best. The Lancaster Family had indeed been through a lot recently.
So, she told Jane Lancaster to go home and rest well, not to overthink things, and that the school would stand firmly by her side, before taking her leave.
Once the counselor was out of sight, Julian Lancaster spoke, his voice cold. "Let’s go."
The driver looked at him with some concern, feeling that the pressure around the young master had dropped even lower.
Remembering the phone call from the butler, his heart grew heavy.
Something big was about to happen.
Jane Lancaster stood still. "What happened? Why do I suddenly have to go home again?"
’Timothy Lancaster probably just got on the plane. Is he not even going to pretend anymore?’
Julian Lancaster clenched his fists, his gaze lowered slightly, his eyes filled with an icy chill.
A moment later, he looked up at her coldly. "You know exactly what’s going on."
Now, even a fool could see the chilling hatred in his eyes.
Before Jane Lancaster could react, a figure strode over, grabbed her wrist, and stepped between her and Julian Lancaster.
Caleb Lowell had guessed there would be friction between the siblings. After all, rumors of the Lancaster siblings fighting for power had been circulating wildly.
But he hadn’t expected that the once-close siblings had now become like fire and water.
Was Julian Lancaster planning to make a move on Jane Lancaster now that Timothy Lancaster was away and there was no one to back her up?
If that was the case, he couldn’t let Julian Lancaster take her away.
"My apologies. Jay isn’t feeling well. I’d like to take her to my place to rest for a couple of days."
Julian Lancaster’s pupils constricted. "You’re taking her away? In what capacity are you taking her?"
Caleb Lowell: "You don’t need to worry about that. Jay will be very safe with me. I’ll also call Uncle Lancaster later to run it by him."
