Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 296: Something is Wrong with Her Spiritual Power, Come Quickly
“Special spiritual power?”
Lin Zhenye looked up at Yun Sheng. His eyes were filled with doubt about her abilities, anxiety for his son’s safety, and a hint of confusion regarding this “special spiritual power.” After all, in his understanding, a Guide without a spiritual body couldn’t possibly provide mental channeling for a Sentinel, much less save one suffering from a spiritual power rampage.
“Doesn’t she lack a spiritual body altogether? How can she perform a channeling for Xiao Hao? If something goes wrong, Xiao Hao will truly be beyond saving!”
Meeting Lin Zhenye’s scrutinizing and probing gaze, Yun Sheng’s expression remained virtually unchanged. She didn’t step forward to offer a single word of explanation. She knew perfectly well that someone else was far more anxious than she was and would naturally do the explaining.
“Dad, there’s something you don’t know,” Lin Yueyao interjected. “Although Yun Sheng doesn’t have a spiritual body, her spiritual power is truly special! She rose from F-level to B-level in less than two months and even passed the Tower’s official Guide test. Previously, in Zone 10, she was able to repel high-level pollutants using her spiritual power.
“Right now, the SS Level Guide can’t make it, and Xiao Hao can’t afford to wait. Rather than sitting around waiting for the worst, it’s better to let Yun Sheng try. Even if she fails, we have no other choice!”
Lin Zhenye’s brows remained tightly knitted as he listened to Lin Yueyao’s words, but time was indeed running out. With a darkened expression, he looked at Yun Sheng and asked in a low voice, “Do you really want to try? You need to think this through. Given Xiao Hao’s current condition, if the channeling goes wrong, not only will he be in danger, but you might also suffer a backlash from the spiritual power and injure yourself.”
Yun Sheng met his gaze and said softly, “Yes, I’ll try. What if it actually saves Lin Hao? No matter what, he is my younger brother. I can’t just watch something happen to him.
“It’s just that my Level is too low. Since even Sister Yue Yao, an S-class Guide, couldn’t do it… please don’t hold out too much hope. I can only do my best.”
“All right, then give it a try. At this point, there’s no better alternative.” Lin Zhenye finally nodded. He tapped his terminal and dialed the hospital dean’s number.
“Dean Zhang, this is Lin Zhenye. My son, Lin Hao, is currently in the emergency room with a severe spiritual power rampage. I have a Guide here who wants to try performing a spiritual channeling for him. Could you please come over and evaluate if it’s feasible?”
On the other end of the line, Dean Zhang didn’t dare delay. He hastily agreed, saying he would be right there. Within minutes, he rushed over.
Lin Zhenye pointed to Yun Sheng beside him and said urgently, “Dean Zhang, this is Yun Sheng, the Guide I mentioned on the phone. She is willing to attempt a spiritual channeling for Xiao Hao. Please see if it’s viable.”
Dean Zhang immediately turned to Yun Sheng, looking her up and down with a flash of doubt in his eyes. “Miss Guide, what is your current Level? Young Master Lin’s condition is extremely critical right now. Rushing into a spiritual channeling carries a massive risk.”
Hearing this, Lin Yueyao hurried forward and cut in. “Dean Zhang, my sister’s spiritual power is very special. Just let her try. Otherwise, your hospital doesn’t have any good solutions either, and my brother can’t afford to wait!”
Dean Zhang hesitated for a moment. Seeing the persistence on the faces of Lin Zhenye and Lin Yueyao, and thinking of Lin Hao’s critical state in the emergency room, he finally nodded.
“All right, since Mr. Lin agrees, we will give it a try. However, Miss Yun must wear a spiritual power monitoring device so we can track her spiritual power fluctuations throughout the entire process. If any abnormalities occur, or if she feels unwell, the channeling must be stopped immediately. We absolutely cannot force it.”
Yun Sheng didn’t hesitate at all. She nodded in agreement at once. “No problem. I will follow your arrangements, Dean.”
Shortly after, a nurse brought over a sterile suit and the spiritual power monitoring equipment. Yun Sheng quickly put on the sterile suit and attached the monitoring sensors to her wrist and forehead. After confirming everything was in order, she followed the nurse’s guidance into the emergency room. Meanwhile, Lin Zhenye, Su Wan, and Lin Yueyao followed Dean Zhang to the hospital’s observation room.
The observation room was filled with surveillance monitors, providing a clear, full view of the situation inside the emergency room. It also displayed real-time tracking of both Yun Sheng’s and Lin Hao’s spiritual power fluctuations. The group stood before the screens, their expressions varied but sharing the same deep anxiety as they stared intently at the figure on the display.
Inside the emergency room, Lin Hao lay on the hospital bed. His eyes were tightly shut, trapped in a deep coma. However, a violent, churning surge of spiritual power swirled around him, crashing recklessly around the room like an out-of-control tidal wave. Even the air itself was thick with the erratic fluctuations of his runaway spiritual power.
The attending doctors and nurses all stood by the door with taut expressions, too afraid to approach the bed. Lin Hao’s rampaging spiritual power had already formed an invisible barrier. It was highly aggressive; anyone who rashly stepped close would face an indiscriminate attack.
A flash of surprise crossed Yun Sheng’s eyes as she took in the scene. Lin Hao was clearly just a B-level Sentinel, yet the rampaging spiritual power radiating from him right now gave off an intense, oppressive aura that far exceeded a B-level—it was no less formidable than an S-Class. This was absolutely not how a normal spiritual power rampage should look, which further confirmed her underlying suspicion: there was definitely something fishy going on here.
Without altering her expression, Yun Sheng briefly raised her gaze, her eyes darting across the surveillance cameras overhead. Every single movement and expression she made right now was under the watchful eyes of those in the observation room. Lin Yueyao, in particular, was undoubtedly staring unblinkingly at the monitors, wanting to see exactly how “special” her spiritual power was and whether she could truly save Lin Hao.
From this moment on, she had to tread very carefully with every step she took. She couldn’t expose her true strength, yet she still needed to successfully complete the channeling—all while secretly investigating the true cause of Lin Hao’s rampage.
Taking a deep breath, Yun Sheng slowly stepped forward, making her way toward the hospital bed. As the distance closed, she soon reached the invisible spiritual power barrier formed by Lin Hao’s rampage. The barrier was wrapped in layers of violent energy, but just as she was about to touch it, the churning spiritual power seemed to be placated by some unseen force. It quietly subdued itself, showing not a single sign of wanting to attack her.
Yun Sheng’s footsteps faltered abruptly. Anyone else who approached would be attacked, yet she was perfectly fine. That would be far too conspicuous. Almost instantly, she came up with a plan.
A look of pain surfaced on her face as she instinctively stumbled back two steps, acting as though she had genuinely been struck by that formidable wave of spiritual power. But soon after, she began to slowly release her own spiritual power.
At the same time, the monitoring device fed back the fluctuations of Yun Sheng’s spiritual power. Her gentle spiritual power carefully brushed against the violent spiritual power barrier. In that split second, the barrier suddenly wavered, and the oppressive sensation drastically diminished.
Yun Sheng maintained a strained expression on her face, yet she continued to put one foot in front of the other, inching her way slowly toward Lin Hao’s bed.
Over in the observation room, disbelief washed over everyone’s faces as they watched the scene unfold. Su Wan clenched her hands tightly, the anxiety and worry in her eyes gradually being replaced by a faint but burning glimmer of hope.
Her lips quivered as she spoke in a trembling voice. “It’s working. It’s actually working… Does this mean Yun Sheng can save Xiao Hao?”
Lin Yueyao heard this, but she didn’t reply. Tapping her fingertips lightly against her terminal, she quickly dispatched an encrypted message.
[There’s something wrong with her spiritual power. Come quickly!]
