Chapter 377: Chapter 233: It’s Definitely Safe to Hide Here

Fang Yue and Zhao Qian were taken to the Government Office and thrown into a prison cell.

The cell was dim and damp, and a foul stench permeated the air.

Zhao Qian sat slumped on the floor, his face a mask of helplessness and despair.

"Fang, I’m sorry. It’s my fault you’re mixed up in this," he said, guilt-ridden.

Fang Yue waved his hand, showing he didn’t mind.

He scanned his surroundings, observing the cell’s environment and construction. ’A plan was already forming in his mind.’

"Zhao, you don’t have to blame yourself."

Fang Yue comforted him, "You’ve taken good care of me on this journey; we should face hardships together. Besides, I’m sure we won’t be in here for long."

Zhao Qian looked up, and for a moment, he thought he saw a flicker of hope in Fang Yue’s eyes.

But just as quickly, it was extinguished.

Zhao Qian sighed and continued, "Fang, there’s something you don’t know. The officialdom of Great Wei... ugh, it’s incredibly dark.

Some County Magistrates and junior officials are experts at extortion, stopping at nothing. Now that we’ve been thrown in here, I’m afraid getting out won’t be so easy."

As a caravan Steward, he had traveled extensively for years and was very familiar with the officialdom of Great Wei.

If they were only after money, they usually wouldn’t arrest people directly. But this time, they arrested them outright, not even giving him a chance to bribe his way out.

It seemed this time, they were out for blood.

Zhao Qian’s words made the atmosphere in the cell even heavier. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

But Fang Yue wasn’t worried. With his power, breaking out of prison would be easy.

Besides, if he revealed his identity, the County Magistrate here would probably treat him as a guest of honor.

Escaping this prison would be, one could say, child’s play.

"Alright, Zhao, no need to worry. We might be out of here by tomorrow," Fang Yue said.

Hearing Fang Yue’s comforting words, Zhao Qian shook his head and said no more. But his heart was still filled with despair, and he didn’t believe a word Fang Yue said.

After all, he had connections in this city. They would naturally know he had been arrested.

But no one had come for him yet. It was obvious they had abandoned him.

So, as things stood, no matter how you looked at it, they had all been cast aside like pawns.

A tide of despair washed over Zhao Qian. He lowered his head again, clutching it in his hands as if trying to shut everything out.

He had some so-called connections in this city, but none of them had shown up. It was clear they had definitely abandoned him.

Fang Yue looked at Zhao Qian, understanding his thoughts. He knew that comforting words were useless now; only actions would prove anything.

So, he walked over to the cell door and carefully examined the lock and the door’s structure.

Then, he reached out and gently ran his fingers over the lock, as if feeling its temperature and texture.

Seeing Fang Yue’s actions, Zhao Qian looked up in confusion. "Fang, this cell is specially designed to hold Martial Artists. You can’t break down the door without reaching the Great Success stage of Qi Sensing."

Hearing Zhao Qian’s words, Fang Yue just smiled lightly and didn’t answer.

’A mere cell door laced with a bit of Profound Essence Refined Iron is hardly enough to hold me.’

After listening, Fang Yue smiled faintly and said to Zhao Qian, "Zhao, don’t worry. I have my ways."

As he spoke, he again carefully examined the lock and the door’s structure.

Although this cell was made to hold Martial Artists, for Fang Yue, it wasn’t much of a challenge.

"Dinner time, dinner time! You two are in luck today. We just got a new cook, and his skills are something else."

"So, you can count yourselves blessed. You get a good meal for your last one."

As night fell, the voice of a Prison Guard from outside shattered the silence in the cell.

Then, a Prison Guard walked up carrying two steaming bowls of food. He placed them on the ground outside the cell.

The distance was neither far nor near—just out of reach, even if Fang Yue and Zhao Qian stretched their arms out as far as they could.

The aroma of the food filled the cell, stirring Zhao Qian’s appetite. ’Even if I have to die, I’d rather die on a full stomach.’

But he just couldn’t reach it!

"Hey, excuse me, could you move the food a little closer?"

Zhao Qian tried his best to sound polite. After all, he was a prisoner now; it was best not to offend the guards if he could help it.

Hearing this, the Prison Guard glanced at Zhao Qian, a mocking smile playing on his lips.

"What? You still think you’re some caravan Steward? You’re a prisoner now. You should be grateful you have food at all. Who are you to be picky?"

"Heh heh, if you two get on the ground and bark like dogs, maybe I’ll be kind enough to let you have a full meal. Otherwise, you can just wait to become starved ghosts!"

As he spoke, he deliberately kicked the two bowls, spilling some of the food onto the ground, and then burst out laughing.

Watching the Prison Guard’s actions, Zhao Qian was filled with fury, but even more so with helplessness and despair.

He knew that he couldn’t afford to clash with the guard right now; it would only make the situation worse.

Zhao Qian took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions.

He turned to look at Fang Yue, only to see him still standing calmly to the side, seemingly unaffected by the guard’s provocations.

Fang Yue gave a slight shake of his head, signaling for Zhao Qian to remain calm.

He had been watching coldly from the side, not angered by the guard’s actions at all. ’A petty person like that isn’t worth getting angry over.’

’After all, when we escape, these guards who are humiliating us now will inevitably be charged with dereliction of duty.’
