Chapter 373 - 231: Rejection
Chapter 373: Chapter 231: Rejection
Fang Yue smiled bitterly to himself. He never imagined he would find himself in such an awkward predicament.
However, he quickly composed himself and began to consider his options.
He knew he had to act fast. If Black Robe told the Han Prince about this, he would be in real trouble.
A flash of resolve and determination appeared in Fang Yue’s eyes. ’I have no way out,’ he thought. ’I must do whatever it takes to handle this crisis.’
He couldn’t let Black Robe succeed, and he certainly couldn’t let himself fall into an even deeper predicament.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. As his thoughts raced, a preliminary plan began to form.
He needed to stall Black Robe first, buying as much time as possible to find a solution.
"Heh, you can go ahead and try. We’ll see who ends up without a proper burial!" Black Robe sneered.
Faced with Black Robe’s sneer, Fang Yue remained completely unshaken.
He understood that Black Robe was testing his limits while also posturing.
However, Fang Yue knew he absolutely could not back down now, or he would lose the initiative completely.
He lifted his head, looked Black Robe straight in the eye, and said resolutely, "Is that so? Black Robe, let’s find out who’s going to die!"
Black Robe was taken aback by Fang Yue’s firm stance. He hadn’t expected Fang Yue to dare oppose him so openly.
Though furious, he knew this wasn’t the time to lose his temper.
He needed time to think about how to respond to Fang Yue’s challenge, and he also needed time to gauge the Han Prince’s reaction to the matter.
So, he shot Fang Yue a cold glare, turned to leave, and left a single sentence hanging in the air: "Fine, you’ve got guts! I’d like to see how you’re going to explain this to the Han Prince!"
"That’s my business. Hand them over now, and you won’t have to worry about the rest," Fang Yue snorted.
He had come here today to take Lin Wan’Er and her servant away.
A moment of carelessness had led to this whole mess.
"Fine. You’ve got nerve, still daring to demand people from me at a time like this. In that case, you can have them!" Black Robe clapped his hands, and someone immediately brought Lin Wan’Er and her servant over.
"Now that you have them, you’d better enjoy the time you have left. I’ve seen plenty of tough talkers, but I’ve never seen many who still want to play the romantic hero when they’re about to die."
After his taunt, Black Robe ignored Fang Yue and left without another word.
Black Robe’s actions took Fang Yue by surprise. He had expected him to continue with the blackmail, not hand over the captives so readily.
However, he didn’t let his guard down. In fact, he became even more cautious.
He looked at Lin Wan’Er and her servant, a trace of worry in his eyes.
He knew Black Robe wouldn’t do something like this for no reason. There had to be a catch.
Fang Yue quickly pondered the possible motive behind Black Robe’s actions. He knew Black Robe was an extremely cunning enemy who would never do anything that didn’t benefit him.
’Black Robe handed over Lin Wan’Er and her servant so easily... Could he be setting me up for an even bigger conspiracy?’ Fang Yue wondered.
He decided to get Lin Wan’Er and her servant settled somewhere safe first, then slowly figure out Black Robe’s true intentions.
But just then, the girl in black emerged from the room behind him.
The girl’s face was pale, but it couldn’t hide her delicate beauty. Her tight-fitting black clothes clung to her exquisite figure, outlining her perfect curves.
There was a coldness in her eyes, as if she were indifferent to everything around her.
"Pretend last night never happened. Don’t tell anyone!" the girl’s voice was frigid. The look she gave Fang Yue was devoid of any emotion, as if she were looking at a stone.
It was a complete departure from her alluring, passionate-as-fire demeanor of the previous night.
They had been intimate last night, yet her coldness now was startling to Fang Yue.
Fang Yue looked at the girl in black and said calmly, "Of course. I’ll act as if last night never happened."
After all, it hadn’t been voluntary. Even though she was a peerless beauty, Fang Yue had no improper thoughts about her.
’Since she’s a daughter of the Great Wei’s Royal Family, with my current cultivation and status, I’m truly not worthy of her,’ he thought.
Hearing Fang Yue’s words, a strange light flickered in the girl’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by her usual coldness.
She said flatly, "That would be for the best. Otherwise, if word of what happened last night gets out, I’ll kill you with my own two hands."
Fang Yue smiled faintly, unconcerned by the girl’s threat.
He knew the most important thing now was to find a solution to his problem, not get entangled with Black Robe and this girl.
He turned to Lin Wan’Er and her servant. "Let’s get out of here first."
Lin Wan’Er and her servant nodded and followed Fang Yue away from the dangerous place.
On the way out, Fang Yue kept trying to figure out Black Robe’s true intentions. He knew Black Robe wouldn’t have let them go for no reason; there had to be a trap.
But no matter how long he thought, he couldn’t figure out what Black Robe was planning.
’It seems Black Robe’s goal is that Jade Pendant,’ Fang Yue mused. ’But what other methods will he use to try and get it?’
He knew he had to be even more careful and cautious to face the challenges ahead.
