Chapter 335: Chapter 217: One Against 36
He moved with incredible speed, his fists a blur as they rained down. In the blink of an eye, he sent all three men flying.
CRACK! CRACK!
The distinct sound of cracking ribs echoed through the air—Fang Yue had broken them.
PFFT!
The three men sprayed mouthfuls of blood, their eyes filled with utter shock.
All of them were Martial Masters who had achieved Great Success in Qi Sensing, just one step away from stepping into the Innate realm and becoming Martial Arts Grandmasters!
They had even managed to force an Innate Grandmaster into retreat once when they joined forces.
Yet now, a single move from some young punk in his early twenties had left them all severely injured. It was simply unbelievable.
"Damn it!"
Seeing this, the middle-aged man’s expression soured. He hadn’t expected Fang Yue to be this powerful.
They were just taking money to do a job. They never imagined the hunter would become the hunted.
This Fang Yue was an expert who had been concealing his true strength.
"Withdraw!"
Without another moment of hesitation, the middle-aged man let out a low growl, turned, and fled.
Though severely injured, they were still masters of the Martial Master Level. As long as they could recover even a sliver of Primordial Qi, escape wouldn’t be a problem.
"You’re not getting away!" Li Mengyao cried out, drawing the Treasure Sword from her waist and giving chase.
"You’re courting death!"
Seeing Li Mengyao in hot pursuit, a venomous look flashed in the middle-aged man’s eyes.
SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH...
His hands moved like lightning as he suddenly unleashed three palm strikes, each one brimming with immense Primordial Qi.
He struck his own injured companions, sending them flying backward to intercept Li Mengyao. He was trying to use their lives to buy himself time.
"Despicable!"
At this sight, Li Mengyao’s expression turned glacial. She abruptly accelerated, dodging the flying bodies of his companions and making a beeline for the middle-aged man himself.
"Get out of my way!"
A sinister glint flashed in the middle-aged man’s eyes as he lashed out with a claw-hand strike.
Li Mengyao’s expression grew even colder. With a flick of her wrist, her Longsword shot forward.
TING!
The crisp sound of metal on metal rang out.
The middle-aged man’s arm shuddered, and he was forced back two steps, his face paling slightly.
"How are you so strong? You’re no ordinary woman," the middle-aged man exclaimed.
Li Mengyao just snorted coldly, offering no reply.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
With a flick of her wrist, her Longsword moved like a coiling dragon, its movements impossibly nimble.
In just a few moments, the middle-aged man had already sustained seven or eight new wounds.
’This is bad!’
Seeing Li Mengyao press her advantage, the middle-aged man knew he was likely going to die here today.
Only now did he realize that even this woman’s strength far surpassed his expectations.
The thought spurred him to action, and he immediately prepared to flee again.
"Too late!"
But Li Mengyao’s voice came just as her Longsword instantly pierced through his chest.
The middle-aged man’s face was a mask of disbelief and resentment as he slowly sank to his knees.
In his final moments, his pupils dilated, as if in utter disbelief.
’It was just a routine job... How did we end up running into someone so powerful? We really bit off more than we could chew!’
THUD!
His body collapsed to the ground with a heavy thud.
"Why would these thugs target us? Could someone have hired them?" Fang Yue asked with a frown, having finished off the other assailants.
’Logically, a group of bandits this strong wouldn’t have targeted us for no reason.’
Fang Yue began to search the body of the leader and quickly found a letter.
"So it was them?"
After reading the letter, Fang Yue finally understood. They had been targeted back in that town they’d passed through.
After Fang Yue and Li Mengyao had left, those people had hired these assassins to intercept and kill them on the road.
However, Fang Yue and his companion had traveled too quickly.
The assassins were delayed and only managed to catch up to them once they reached Liangzhou Prefecture.
"How despicable! To think we’d be plotted against again!" Li Mengyao said bitterly.
"Mm."
Fang Yue nodded.
Then, with a surge of energy, he crushed the letter in his hand to dust.
"Now, let’s go drag those people out."
The letter also revealed that the one who hired the assassins was nearby, waiting in a ruined temple not far from their location.
The two of them immediately headed for the ruined temple.
The temple wasn’t far. In about a quarter of an hour, they arrived.
Gazing at the ruined temple a few hundred yards away, Fang Yue stopped.
"What’s wrong?" Li Mengyao asked when she saw him stop.
Fang Yue shook his head. "I don’t know. I just have a bad feeling about this place."
Hearing this, Li Mengyao’s brow furrowed. "Should we turn back then?"
Fang Yue shook his head, his expression grim. "It’s too late! We’re going in!"
Although Li Mengyao didn’t understand his reasoning, she followed him.
The temple had long been abandoned. Its doors and windows were rotted, and cobwebs hung everywhere. The air was thick with the smell of mold and decay, giving it a desolate feel.
CREAK!
Fang Yue pushed open the wooden door and stepped inside.
The smell of dust immediately assaulted his nostrils, making him cough twice. He quickly covered his nose and mouth.
Just then, Fang Yue saw a skeleton sitting cross-legged on a prayer cushion. Its clothes had long since turned to dust, leaving only a desiccated corpse.
"Fang, what did you mean just now? What did you mean by ’it’s too late’?" Li Mengyao asked as soon as they were inside the temple.
"We’ve been set up," Fang Yue said, his expression grave. "Those men were just cannon fodder. Their purpose was to lure us here. I’m afraid this place is already surrounded."
"Then we should leave quickly!" Li Mengyao said anxiously.
She truly hadn’t expected their enemy to be so vicious and sinister as to lay such an elaborate trap to murder her and Fang Yue. To make the ruse believable, they had even sacrificed five Martial Masters who had achieved Great Success in Qi Sensing.
