Eternal Life: I Can Sell Everything
Chapter 532: Why Are You Not on the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List?
Chapter 532: Chapter 495: Why Are You Not on the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List?
At the city gate, Yu Wenxu began to question Song Ciwan.
At first, he asked his questions casually. His Deputy General, Cai An, had already warned him multiple times not to get his hopes up for this trip. The lower the hope and the lower the expectations, the less disappointment he would feel on the return journey.
After waiting for nearly the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, and after going through a cycle of hope, disappointment, more hope, and more disappointment, much of the anxiety in Yu Wenxu’s heart had quietly faded.
‘Whatever. I’ll just treat this trip as a leisurely outing.’
And so, he picked up the brush in his hand and dipped it into the inkstone that Cai An was personally holding for him.
A small, green-covered booklet floated in the air before him. The medical cultivators recruited this time would be registered in this very booklet.
Handling the registration personally wasn’t something Yu Wenxu needed to do. He was writing the entries himself, just as he had told Cai An earlier, for two reasons: first, to show how seriously he was taking this matter, and second, to ease his own anxiety.
Yu Wenxu waited for Song Ciwan to answer, and she replied, “My name is Xing Lan—Xing as in ‘star,’ Lan as in ‘ripple.’ My family taught me how to cultivate immortality; I belong to no sect or school. My cultivation is Late-stage Divinity Transformation. I have no identity token and have never registered with the Willow Leaf Hall.”
As she spoke, Yu Wenxu wrote.
Although his hand was moving the brush, Yu Wenxu’s eyes weren’t on his writing at first. His gaze was slightly unfocused, as if he were looking off into some unknown distance.
He wrote down the name Xing Lan. It wasn’t until Song Ciwan stated that her cultivation was Late-stage Divinity Transformation that his brush suddenly froze.
No one knew that just moments ago, while he seemed absent-minded with his wandering gaze, Yu Wenxu was actually conversing with a distant colleague using a special Sound Transmission Shell unique to the West Wind Army.
On the other end of the Secret Sound Shell, a voice was laughing smugly. “Old Yu, your big sister here has beaten you to the punch this time. And you know how? I managed to recruit a master medical cultivator from the Kunshan Sect who’s infinitely close to being Six-star!”
Yu Wenxu’s expression darkened, and a fiery anger surged through him.
The person on the other end, who called herself his sister, was certainly not his real sister. She was his old rival of over sixty years, the Demon Lord of Chaos from the Profound Celestial Sect, a “poisonous tumor” who ran rampant throughout the entire West Wind Army!
Yu Wenxu could just imagine how arrogant and smug Wen Tingyu must be on the other side of the Secret Sound Shell right now.
She must not have sent the message to him alone. At this very moment, every general who had withdrawn from Demon Suppression Pass to personally recruit medical cultivators in the rear must have received her transmission!
Yu Wenxu latched onto her words and replied, “Senior Sister Wen, infinitely close to Six-star is still not Six-star.”
Wen Tingyu giggled. “If not Six-star, then at least Five-star, and not just any ordinary Five-star, mind you. Who knows, they might break through to Six-star at any moment. Oh, Old Yu, don’t be so sour. After all, your senior sister here has been a prodigy since childhood, blessed by fortune. This kind of skill isn’t something you can get just by being jealous.”
Yu Wenxu was so furious the veins on his forehead were about to pop. Damn it all, the West Wind Army and the people from the Kunshan Sect had never gotten along. And he, Yu Wenxu, wasn’t as thick-skinned as Wen Tingyu, who had the gall to march into Kunshan despite all the dirty looks.
Wen Tingyu continued to provoke him. “I heard you didn’t manage to recruit a single Five-star Level medical cultivator in Demon Suppression City. But that was to be expected, wasn’t it? What kind of masters could you possibly find in Demon Suppression City? Any real masters would have entered the Pass long ago!”
Yu Wenxu was clumsy with words, and more importantly, he really hadn’t found anyone worth mentioning. In the end, he could only swallow his anger and endure her gloating.
Just as he was about to lose his temper and cut off the communication, the four words “Late-stage Divinity Transformation” drilled into his ears.
Yu Wenxu whipped his head around, his eyes blazing as he stared at the speaker. He repeated the question, “Your cultivation is Late-stage Divinity Transformation?”
Song Ciwan replied with a single word: “Yes.”
Yu Wenxu immediately asked again, “How old are you?”
Song Ciwan said, “Twenty-six.”
Twenty-six!
Yu Wenxu’s voice suddenly rose in pitch as he asked in astonishment, “Twenty-six years old, Late-stage Divinity Transformation… you’re not lying, are you?”
The last few words slipped out, but Yu Wenxu clearly wasn’t concerned about Song Ciwan’s response. He wasn’t concerned because he didn’t believe she would lie.
At a time like this, under the watchful eyes of so many people at the gates of Demon Suppression City, lying to the West Wind Army about one’s age and cultivation—what kind of fool would do something like that?
Yu Wenxu simply didn’t believe anyone would dare to lie about something so easily verifiable. His question was just a reflexive outburst born of pure shock and excitement.
Suppressing his excitement, he continued with another question, “You’re twenty-six and at Late-stage Divinity Transformation, yet you’re not on the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List?”
That was correct. Song Ciwan’s name—Xing Lan—had not yet appeared on the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List.
Apparently, her battle against Zhang Ping in the mines of the Giant Spirit Realm had not been detected by the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List. Otherwise, given that Zhang Ping’s combat strength surpassed that of an ordinary Celestial Immortal, it would have been impossible for Song Ciwan not to appear on the list after killing her.
From this, it could be inferred that the detection range of the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List was limited.
It was hard to say whether this was good news or bad, but Song Ciwan had a feeling—since the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List was named “Ten Thousand Spirits,” it stood to reason that it shouldn’t be unable to detect smaller realms.
Song Ciwan clearly remembered the combat record evaluation the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List had given her when she defeated Ye Sheng under the identity of Lu Bell.
In the entry mentioning Ye Sheng, four words had appeared on the list: Ancient God’s Word Spirit!
The two words “Ancient Gods,” which Song Ciwan dared not even touch, were brazenly displayed by the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List for all to see.
It broadcast them across the world, for all the world’s people to read.
The Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List had to be an extraordinary Divine Artifact. Otherwise, how could it possibly write the words “Ancient Gods”?
‘And yet, it couldn’t detect battles in smaller realms. Does the list itself have a specific focus on “Ancient Gods”? Or could it be… that the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List is also damaged, and its abilities are therefore limited?’
The origins of the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List were mysterious. Even with the might of the Great Zhou Immortal Dynasty and the Ten Thousand Immortals in the Court, nothing was known about this treasure’s roots. Folk legends only vaguely speculated that it came from Penglai Immortal Island.
Under these circumstances, the artifact sparked far too much speculation.
Song Ciwan’s thoughts raced, making numerous connections in an instant. Across from her, Yu Wenxu didn’t wait for her to answer, instead offering his own explanation.
Yu Wenxu said, “It’s not that strange that you’re not on the Ten Thousand Spirits Celestial Pride List. You’re a medical cultivator, after all, and medical cultivators aren’t skilled in combat… But no matter. Medical cultivators will be protected.”
With that, he let out a hearty laugh, the heavy look on his face completely gone. His tone became incredibly friendly as he asked Song Ciwan, “Since you’re at Late-stage Divinity Transformation, what is your current star-level as a medical cultivator?”
Song Ciwan replied, “I haven’t registered at the Willow Leaf Hall yet, but I’m at least Five-star.”
As for whether she was Six-star, Song Ciwan didn’t know herself, so she didn’t mention it.
