Eternal Life by Nurturing Monsters and Plants
Chapter 168 - 146: Return, Daring Fellow Disciples
Chapter 168: Chapter 146: Return, Daring Fellow Disciples
"There are, of course, other kingdoms beyond Qingyuan, but a celestial chasm blocks the way. The Spiritual Qi within it is chaotic and roiling with Gang Qi. Only a Golden Core Ancestor can cross it, which is why there are so few records."
"Once your cultivation is profound enough, Junior Brother, you can travel deep into the Wanzhong Mountains Range. You’ll be able to meet Cultivators from other regions there."
Li Changsheng nodded in understanding, then asked curiously, "So what does the trial consist of?"
A savage grin slowly spread across Tan Hu’s face. "Kill a True Inheritor from another sect, and you can become a Cyan Yang True Inheritor."
At those words, Li Changsheng’s eyelid twitched.
’Damn, are they really that reckless?!’
He had already accepted that the Cyan Yang Sect wasn’t a righteous sect, but going into another sect’s territory to kill their True Inheritor? That was taking things a bit too far.
A moment’s thought told him it was most likely a one-way trip.
’No matter how skilled you are, you might be able to beat one, but can you beat ten? A hundred?’
’If you’re that brazen, you can’t blame them for ganging up on you, can you?’
Li Changsheng hesitated for a moment, then gave an awkward smile. "Senior Brother, how many True Inheritors in the sect have accomplished this feat so far?"
"Around a hundred or so..." Tan Hu replied after a moment’s thought.
Li Changsheng blurted out, "That many?"
His question caught Tan Hu by surprise.
After a moment, he recovered and said with some irritation, "Don’t underestimate our Cyan Yang Sect, Junior Brother."
"Among the dozens of sects scattered around the outskirts of the Wanzhong Mountains Range, even if our Cyan Yang Sect isn’t number one or two, we’re definitely in the top ten."
"Heh..."
Li Changsheng had no way of knowing if Tan Hu was telling the truth. He scratched his head and chuckled dryly. "I didn’t mean anything by it, Senior Brother. I just think the risk is far too great."
"True Inheritors are hard to come by..."
Tan Hu gave him a long look, then shook his head and smiled. "If becoming a True Inheritor were that easy, how could the sect afford to support them?"
There were some things he didn’t say. The Cyan Yang Sect was different from other sects.
When disciples of the Beast Soul and Blood Fusion lineages die, the beast souls and bloodlines they’ve refined don’t disappear with the host, unless they are intentionally destroyed.
If they die, the Cyan Yang Sect has its own methods to retrieve them.
Having been nurtured by a Cultivator’s Spiritual Power for decades or even a century, these beast souls and bloodlines would become even more formidable.
Once the next compatible disciple is found, the cycle begins anew.
This was also why, in the Inner Sect Grand Competition held after every mass recruitment, the top ten positions were always occupied by disciples from the competing Beast Soul and Blood Fusion lineages.
This competition was no exception. The most promising candidate, Lan Cai Shen, was stopped in the final match, failing to make it into the top ten.
To this day,
the last person from the Miscellaneous Branch to place in the top ten was Elder Lan, the very person who established the Miscellaneous Peak.
Li Changsheng nodded slightly. ’In any case, it’s not like I have to participate in this trial. It doesn’t have much to do with me.’
The two chatted for a while longer.
Then, Tan Hu took his leave, citing other matters he had to attend to.
Li Changsheng didn’t continue cultivating either. With his hands clasped behind his back, he walked out the door.
Seeing Xiaohua’s family of four lying in a row at the courtyard gate, he couldn’t help but smile.
"Get up, Xiaohua."
Li Changsheng called out and strolled through the main gate.
OINK OINK...
Xiaohua grunted as it got to its feet, wagging its tail as it followed behind him.
Then, the insect swarm rose up from around the courtyard, closed the gate, and flew up to circle around Li Changsheng.
He didn’t know if it was because of the Snake Saliva Spirit Tree.
In the past, whenever the swarm patrolled the area, they would always catch at least a few snake-beasts.
Now, however, the swarm only managed to catch a few bugs that were tinged with a trace of Spiritual Qi.
Soon, Li Changsheng arrived at his Spirit Field and glanced over it.
The Concentration Flowers in the Spirit Field had already grown to a height of three inches, their vibrant green a truly delightful sight.
Li Changsheng crouched down, his gaze fixed on one of the Concentration Flowers.
[Target: Concentration Flower]
[Tier 1, Low-Grade: 76%]
[Medicinal Effect: Spirit-Nourishing.]
[Status: Healthy.]
Over a month had passed, and the Concentration Flower’s progress had increased by nearly eighty points, which was quite fast. This was thanks to him frequently using life essence to hasten its growth; otherwise, it wouldn’t have grown so quickly.
The Bright God Flowers he needed for his cultivation, however, still required another three-plus months to mature, so he couldn’t use them for now.
Li Changsheng dismissed the panel and began forming a technique seal. Spiritual Power from his body surged into the meridians of the Small Cloud-Rain Technique.
In just an instant, the misty channels took shape.
The technique seal in Li Changsheng’s hands shifted, and he said softly, "Condense!"
As his voice fell, in mid-air,
wisps of cloud and mist gathered from all directions.
In less than a moment, a dark cloud about ten meters across coalesced and took shape.
Li Changsheng didn’t stop, continuing to channel Spiritual Power into the meridians.
In mid-air, more wisps of smoky cloud continued to gather.
After a moment,
the dark cloud had more than doubled in size.
Feeling that his meridians were completely unharmed, Li Changsheng couldn’t help but inwardly praise the Vein Condensing Technique. ’As expected of the Vein Condensing Technique.’
He then stopped expanding it, and with another shift of his technique seal, he intoned, "Fall!"
Instantly, fine strands of rain began to fall from the dark cloud.
The rain fell upon the Spirit Field, moistening each and every Concentration Flower. As time passed, a hazy mist rose from the watered field.
Li Changsheng then directed the dark cloud to move over the unwatered section of the Spirit Field.
「A Cup of Tea’s Time passed.」
All three mu of the Spirit Field had been watered.
With a mere thought from Li Changsheng, the dark cloud trembled for a moment before collapsing, dispersing with the wind into puffs of mist that drifted into the mountains.
’Less than twenty percent of my Spiritual Power consumed. Not bad.’
Sensing his remaining Spiritual Power, Li Changsheng nodded in satisfaction. With his hands clasped behind his back, he walked towards his three Mid-grade Spirit Fields.
Arriving at the edge of the three fields, he looked them over.
The Jade Ganoderma Fruits had grown by about an inch, and the emerald-green dots at the center of their caps had swollen slightly. Standing there in the Spirit Field, each plant looked like an exquisitely carved piece of Mutton Fat Jade.
