Eternal Life as False Emperor
Chapter 632 - 457: Heavenly Dao, You Are Scheming Against Me (2)
Zheng Yi quickly made a silence gesture: "Everyone, stay quiet. Do not act without my command."
A villager half-hidden by branches replied briefly and then retreated: "Rest assured, Immortal Master. Even if we die, we won’t make a sound."
On the surface, his hiding spot didn’t seem very effective, with a large patch of his clothing exposed.
Yet, his clothes cleverly blended with the surrounding environment.
Even if a cultivator passed by, unless they used their divine sense to meticulously search, it would be unlikely they’d notice someone was there.
Most importantly, Zheng Yi had deliberately arranged their lines of sight to avoid positions where the enemy might pass during their concealment.
As long as the people from Riverbend Village did not accidentally expose themselves, the Zhao Family members were unlikely to discover their existence.
Just as they finished hiding, Zheng Yi spotted someone hastily running from Riverbend Village towards their location.
"...How can the timing be so coincidental?" Zheng Yi exclaimed, feeling quite frustrated.
Earlier, when dealing with Zhao Tianming, the Zhao Family people just happened to appear nearby Riverbend Village, forcing him to rush arrangements and return to support.
Now, just as they completed the ambush preparation, another problem arose.
It seemed that, in the undercurrents, the Heavenly Dao’s influence was at play.
Zheng Yi didn’t have time to hide and rushed out to intercept the village runner: "What’s happening?"
"Immortal Master, the village head sent someone to inform us that the Mine Master is coming. They say it’s extremely urgent, so I hurried over to find you, fearing it might delay your important matters."
The villagers of Riverbend Village mostly addressed Zheng Yi in two ways.
For Zhou Kunshan and Feng Haitao, they called Zheng Yi "Lord." As for the ordinary villagers, they generally referred to him as "Immortal Master."
After all, in their eyes, Zheng Yi was undoubtedly an immortal.
Not to mention the tricks Zheng Yi had previously displayed in the ancestral hall.
Just the skills Zheng Yi taught them, and the recent transformative changes in Riverbend Village, were nothing short of miraculous to them.
Zheng Yi didn’t see the need to correct this misconception.
This identity offered him benefits without any downside.
Zheng Yi barely had time to respond when a voice sounded from the jungle in the distance behind him.
"Wow, such good luck, to run into people here."
"You two, come over here. The boss has some questions for you."
Hearing the commanding voice made Zheng Yi’s eyebrows furrow almost enough to join together.
"In a moment, don’t say anything. Leave it to me," Zheng Yi transmitted to the messenger villager, advising him not to act hastily.
Turning to face the Zhao Family entourage, Zheng Yi had transformed into a completely different demeanor.
Suddenly, he appeared a whole head shorter, his face showing a timid and submissive look.
Except for his skin, which was paler than the typical Riverbend Village folks, his expression was almost indistinguishable from theirs.
"Ma...Master, are you calling me?" Zheng Yi’s cautious appearance was so annoying that even a glance could be off-putting.
However, the Zhao Family group didn’t find anything amiss.
In their eyes, ordinary villagers should behave like this.
"Yes, you. Why are you still standing there? Hurry over here!"
The speaker wasn’t one of the two Zhao Family members, but one of their guard leaders.
The noble Zhao Family wouldn’t lower themselves to converse with a mining laborer.
"Oh...here...I...I come." Zheng Yi stuttered, bending over as he walked forward.
He deliberately walked slowly, occasionally tripping and nearly falling.
The villager next to him was also stumbling along awkwardly.
He did this, naturally, to ensure these people would move completely into the ambush zone.
The Zhao Family group, however, was unaware of Zheng Yi’s intentions.
Seeing Zheng Yi’s clumsy demeanor, they mocked incessantly.
"I’ve seen foolish people, but never anyone this foolish."
"Hahaha, look at this idiot, can’t even walk without tripping."
"Stop laughing; mountain roads are indeed difficult to navigate... It’s normal for a laborer to be a bit clumsy."
The two Zhao Family scions frowned.
"These worthless fools have never failed to disappoint us with their stupidity."
"Never seen such an idiot; such people don’t deserve to live in this world. After we finish questioning, let’s kill them."
Zheng Yi, diligently pretending, probably never imagined that his clumsy act would make the two Zhao Family scions decide to kill him.
At this moment, Zheng Yi was calculating the distance between both sides.
"If I trip a couple more times, they’ll be completely within the ambush circle."
Once the distance was close enough, they were right at the center of the ambush circle.
Zheng Yi had initially planned to coax some information from them.
Though he had some understanding of the Zhao Family, these insights had come from the surrounding villagers.
Their comprehension of a vast empire was too superficial, akin to blind men trying to understand an elephant.
Even the mine’s overseer, aiding Zhao Tianming, had less detailed knowledge of the Zhao Family than these two scions.
Unfortunately, Zhao Tianming was on his way here, and Zheng Yi had no time for gathering intelligence.
"Why are you looking? When you see the Zhao Family scions, shouldn’t you kneel?"
Seeing Zheng Yi’s wooden expression, the guard leader instantly reprimanded unhappily.
"Oh..." Zheng Yi replied blankly, assuming a kneeling pose.
But no one noticed that his hand had already grasped a small flying sword.
Just as Zheng Yi was about to act, one of the Zhao Family scions suddenly changed his expression: "Not good!"
His entire body tensed, ready to take action.
This person possessed cultivation at the early-stage Crystal, a decent level given his age.
Yet, despite his swift move, Zheng Yi was even faster.
Sword Qi soared into the sky, with the power of Divinity Transformation Stage, an unstoppable force.
The two Zhao Family scions didn’t even have time to react; the powerful Sword Qi had already pierced their bodies.
Not only them, but the five guards behind them were also affected by the Sword Qi.
Though only one died, none of the others emerged unscathed.
Two had their arms severed, while another had an entire leg lost.
The last one was in a worse condition, half of his abdomen vanished, with intestines and organs strewn everywhere.
Such grievous injuries would be beyond saving, even with some Immortal Pill.
The other villagers, seeing Zheng Yi act, sprang from their hiding spots, launching attacks on the nearest Zhao Family members.
These villagers hadn’t trained for long, yet the Zhao Family-provided cultivation techniques laid a solid foundation, allowing them remarkably swift progress.
Catching them off guard, the Zhao Family guards were utterly stunned by Zheng Yi’s sudden Sword Qi.
Before they regained their senses, several had already fallen at the hands of Riverbend Village villagers.
Within this brief encounter, including the guard leader, only three Zhao Family members remained.
"You wretched scum, do you realize what you’ve done?" the guard leader shouted in panic and terror.
The two Zhao Family scions he was responsible for protecting had been killed right before his eyes.
If this got out, his Nine Clans might be doomed to join him in destruction.
"You’re better off worrying about yourself." Zheng Yi raised the small sword aimed at the guard leader.
This fellow’s cultivation was decent, slightly superior to Zheng Yi’s at the moment.
Though Zheng Yi might not lose in a fair fight, it would be a waste of time.
He immediately activated the small sword.
Sword Qi of Divinity Transformation Stage once again erupted forcefully.
