Chapter 3032: A Strange Split

Chapter 3032: A Strange Split

The black flame poured out of the crystal with not a single lick of flame remaining inside. The entire crystal orb was empty now, floating separately from the flame.

’The flame is the spirit and the crystal is the soul, right?’ Alex thought. One would have to merge with the Origin, while the other would have to merge with Midnight.

Alex could feel Midnight within the black flame, so he wasn’t quite worried.

Just then, the crystal orb began vibrating with a weird rhythm.

Alex expected that to be Godslayer’s doing, to start the merging process, and didn’t think much of it. However, something entirely else happened.

Reality itself shook around the crystal orb with the same frequency as what the orb was vibrating with. Then, a moment later, there was a tear in the space of his Spiritual Sea.

Or at least that was what it looked like. Alex tried to peer through the split, but he could see nothing through it even though the tear opened wide.

Alex couldn’t understand the situation. The only thing he could tell was that the tear existed in the skin of a reality that was far too complex for him to perceive.

As Alex watched the tear with wide eyes, the crystal orb flew into the tear and vanished.

The tear closed up immediately afterward as well, with not a single sign that it had ever existed in the first place.

Alex was left in a stunned daze as he struggled to make sense of the situation. Godslayer had just… disappeared?

“No!” he thought in a panic. “No, this can’t be happening.”

That was Godslayer’s soul. How could it be gone? How could—

Something caught Alex’s eyes at the same time. The black flame next to him began to move, the blackness leaking out of it like color draining from a freshly washed cloth.

The blackness leaked out until it was nothing but a black smoke out in the open. And where there had been a black flame before was now a simple and weak white light, floating next to an even weaker white light.

One was the spirit of Godslayer, and the other was the spirit of Midnight.

And the black spot that floated next to it slowly began moving toward the Origin, making Alex watch it in a daze. It was only then he realized that the black dot was the Artifact God’s soul, or whatever was left of it at least.

Alex stepped back a little, analyzing the situation.

“If that’s the soul, and that’s the spirit, then… what was the crystal?”

The weird action of the crystal orb disappearing through a split in the reality that he didn’t even recognize left him utterly confused.

The crystal had always been something weird that even Godslayer, the Artifact God, didn’t recognize. So its weird actions were just par for the course. But still, Alex wished he understood what had just happened.

What was the indestructible crystal exactly? Had it still remained behind, could he perhaps have created a Creation out of it?

’Shit! I really thought that was his soul. Was it not?’ Alex thought.

As much as he wanted the answers, he needed to focus himself on the task at hand. Godslayer had said he would be doing everything next, but it was clear to Alex that he would need his help.

Whatever Intent Godslayer was capable of using beforehand had been steering the action, but he still needed someone to give a push from behind.

Alex didn’t want to disrupt anything that was being done, so he merely applied his Intent to strengthen Godslayer’s Intent. It wasn’t as helpful as it could have been had he done something like this before, but since Intent was the power of thought, merely thinking about it was enough to give some help to Godslayer.

And any help right now was a lot for Godslayer.

The spirits were the easier one to deal with of the two, and since Godslayer had also explained how it would work, he was more confident with this than the other one.

The two white specks of light, one larger and one smaller, began to slowly vibrate. They vibrated at a different rate, one faster, one slower.

They were pushed into each other with Godslayer and Alex’s Intent in order to merge. And at the same time, Godslayer’s spirit was the one changing, trying to match Midnight’s vibrations.

It was an attempt at resonance, where only one side was trying.

Godslayer had explained this to Alex. This was the main reason why he was so confident that Midnight wouldn’t be hurt during this at all, since Godslayer had the entire responsibility of merging with Midnight’s spirit.

However, even without a prior knowledge of such a merging, Alex could tell this wouldn’t work if only one side put in the effort. If he wanted this to succeed, Midnight had to make an attempt as well.

Doing so had a chance to wound Midnight, to change him, possibly even kill him. But at this point, there was nothing Alex could do to hurt Midnight that he hadn’t already done to it. There was no reason to hold back.

With a simple thought, he forced Midnight to begin changing its vibrations too, trying to get it to match Godslayer’s rate.

There was a pushback from both of the spirits, but both Godslayer and Alex kept at it, forcing the two spirits to continue.

As they continued, Alex saw the change. The larger spirit that belonged to Godslayer was beginning to lose a part of itself that was being drawn toward Midnight. Then a moment later, the same happened the other way around as well.

Then, as they fed off each other more and more, the vibrations drew closer and closer until they reached a resonance.

The moment the resonance happened, the two spirits immediately moved toward each other, collapsing into themselves. They wobbled for a moment, seemingly attempting to reject the other one.

But a second later, they calmed down, turning into just a simple, slightly brighter and bigger blob of light in the air.

Alex breathed out a deep sigh of relief as the two spirits successfully merged.
