Chapter 2979: The Azure Dragon Palace
Chapter 2979: The Azure Dragon Palace
The slow procession of the White Tiger patriarch was showered with flowers, cheers, and excitement from every direction. The beasts bowed as the White Tiger patriarch passed and then immediately burst out into a flurry of shouts and jumps once they passed.
Bai Zhuqiang was the perfect image of a proud White Tiger, walking through the road at a steady pace, holding the slightest of grins and nothing else. Giant drums sounded in the distance, beating to the rhythm of the patriarch as he walked.
The road before them was clean, but the road behind them was now filled with not just flower petals and leaves, but also spirit stones, pills, and all sorts of minor treasures that were left behind by the Azure Dragons for this very event.
Alex looked around with a strange look on his face. He wasn’t sure how he was to feel in that moment. He was an outsider, taking part in what was essentially a historical event for these beasts. This very event would be written down in scrolls, passed down through generations so that the future beasts would speak of the one time when the White Tiger patriarch visited the Azure Dragon Palace.
And when they did, they would speak of the strange human that they had brought along.
He wondered what they would think about him.
Alex had another thought that distracted him half the time as well. The beasts he saw in the buildings and alleyways were great beasts, but none of them were the Azure Dragons.
Snakes, lizards, and all sorts of other beasts that likely held the bloodline of the Azure Dragon were present, but none of the actual Azure Dragons were present at all.
For a moment at the start, he had even wondered if the Azure Dragons hated the arrival of the White Tiger patriarch for some reason, and this was their way of showing their disapproval.
However, he quickly dropped the idea as it became very clear soon enough that it was because they hadn’t yet reached the place they had to go.
The procession here was for the regular beasts. The actual Azure Dragons would be inside the barrier itself.
Alex told as much to Bai Jingshen through his spiritual sense, just passing along his thoughts. He did not expect the tiger to have an explanation at all.
“You’ll see in a bit, but their home isn’t exactly what you might be thinking it to be. It is a little unique, so everyone is forced to stay away. At the same time, if they were to try to incorporate the other beasts into the barrier, the barrier would have to become so much larger that it’s just a waste of energy.”
Alex raised an eyebrow. “Alright, let’s see what’s so special about this place.”
They reached the end of the road, standing before the giant teal barrier through which they could see nothing inside. Zhangru stood to the side and gestured for the White Tiger patriarch to step ahead.
The patriarch walked forward and disappeared into the barrier.
Bai Fulin and Bai Weiwen walked in next, followed by the group of guards meant for the patriarch. Only after that did Bai Jingshen and Pearl walk in.
Alex was the last to walk in.
The barrier left no trace of itself on his skin as Alex passed through it, no sensation that it even existed. The moment he was inside, it also turned fully invisible, letting him see what was outside of the barrier, no longer obstructing his view.
However, at that point, Alex didn’t want to look outside. The sight within was far too great for him to want to look anywhere else.
Before Alex was a void. Not the actual Void, but a literal void. He stood on a strip of land that went around the barrier, and beyond that was a large drop directly into darkness.
There was no surface here. Just emptiness.
As for the palace, it could not be in that void. Instead, the palace was in the sky.
Giant chunks of land of various shapes and sizes hovered in the air above the void, with thick silver chains as large as rivers dangling next to them, anchored to the strips of land next to the barrier.
Many palaces were built on those floating islands, pyramidal in shape, with cascading roofs covered in blue and green shingles, like the scales of an Azure Dragon.
Large silver banners hung around the many islands, constantly moving with the wind, making the engraved blue dragon within them appear alive and flying through the air.
That was not the only dragon present at that moment.
Thousands of Azure Dragons flew in the sky, making a giant path in the sky for the procession to pass through, leading them to the main palace at the center that hovered the highest in the sky.
At the foot of the main palace was a group of Azure Dragons waiting for them, among which was one at the very front with a thick white furry mane around its neck, and giant dragon horns growing out of its head.
Even at that distance, its majesty was one that could not be undermined. Among all the Azure Dragons standing, that single one was the greatest of them alive.
That was the Azure Dragon’s Patriarch, Qing Sunwen.
Zhangru followed inside the barrier and quickly prepared a giant metal platform in the air for them to step on.
The White Tiger patriarch stepped on it, and the others followed one after another.
Alex stepped onto the metal platform and looked down at the void. He could almost feel the darkness down there and could very much see it in color.
With his Demon Eyes, the blackness he saw underneath was a clear sign that the bottom of the void was filled with Darkness aura after the place had remained in the shadow of the floating islands for so many eons.
The platform started moving, and it stepped away from the edge, slowly ascending to the sky as the group began to approach the main Azure Dragon Palace.
