Chapter 850 -706: Difficult, Misunderstanding?

Threat, an undisguised threat.

Feng Mu’s brows slightly furrowed. Although he wasn’t afraid, he did feel a bit troubled.

Even though he could easily crush these two with a finger, they represented the Mobility Department, wielding authority to pressure him, and killing them could lead to big trouble.

It would undoubtedly disrupt his current plan of lying low and developing, an action of little benefit, but he absolutely couldn’t go with them.

This was completely different from when he voluntarily went to the Patrol Office to accept investigation last time—he had confidence and was sure he could control the situation and escape safely.

But this time?

Once he stepped into the territory of the Mobility Department, his life and death would be in someone else’s hands; he didn’t think he could walk away easily like before.

After all, the other side wasn’t even willing to disclose a shred of the reason for the investigation.

It was as if they wanted to blindfold him and push him into a small black room with unknown contents.

In some ways, this unintentional “invitation” might be more dangerous than any overt dangers he’d faced before.

The unseen danger is often the scariest.

The only thing Feng Mu could be sure of at this moment was that both men from the Mobility Department had a glaring “full of malice” highlight on them.

This was the most direct warning from the system.

Just as the atmosphere in the office was at an impasse, Li Shang, who had been silently observing by the side, finally couldn’t hold back and spoke up.

He also sensed the subtle wrongness and potential danger, naturally associating the name Mobility Department with the Mechanical Department.

Seeing Zhao Lu’s aggressive demeanor, so similar to Zheng Geng whom he’d dealt with before, his heart sank with a thud.

The detective’s inherent suspicion and ability to connect dots began to operate rapidly, and a shocking notion flashed through his mind like lightning:

“Is it possible… that the Mobility Department isn’t actually, or isn’t entirely, here for Feng Mu?

Could they want to take Feng Mu as a breakthrough point, to pry open a gap, with the ultimate goal of obtaining evidence against me?”

As for why the Mobility Department didn’t come directly for him, Li Shang?

That was naturally because his status was somewhat special now, with his safety subtly tied to Mr. Wang’s in the short term.

Anyone with a bit of political wisdom and concerns wouldn’t directly go after such a protected, hard target without solid evidence.

Seeking a breakthrough from Feng Mu was undoubtedly a safer and more circuitous strategy.

At the thought of this possibility, Li Shang instantly couldn’t sit still.

This was both out of consideration for a friend’s safety and his own; he had to speak up:

“Does the Mobility Department conduct investigations so tyrannically? Without a decent explanation, just an empty request to ‘cooperate with the investigation,’ and you’re taking someone from their workplace?”

Zhao Lu seemed to only notice Li Shang’s presence in the office at this moment.

He cast a sidelong glance at Li Shang, pulling a sneer from his lips, and retorted:

“Who do we have here? So it’s Captain Li. Aren’t you busy searching for the missing special envoy? What brings you to a place like the Second Prison?

Is there some clue here?”

Not giving Li Shang a chance to answer, he continued to press aggressively:

“Confidential investigation regulations, Captain Li, you’ve worked in the Patrol Office for so many years, you should know, right?

The case we’re investigating at the Mobility Department is of a very high level, and details must be kept secret. I advise you, Captain Li, to better not poke around or get involved randomly, lest you bring trouble upon yourself!”

Li Shang’s face turned unsightly at once, his expression shifting between green and white.

Meanwhile, his inner feelings sank further, almost cementing his suspicions—the Mobility Department, the Mechanical Department, similar names, similar styles, are likely to be from the same bottle.

Seeing that just a couple of sentences had turned Li Shang’s face pale, left speechless, a hint of satisfaction appeared on Zhao Lu’s face.

He no longer paid attention to Li Shang, redirecting his gaze back to Feng Mu to exert final pressure:

“Let’s go, Feng Mu. Don’t make it difficult for us. Come with us and cooperate with the investigation.”

Feng Mu squinted his eyes slightly, gazing at the two with an enigmatic look, remaining silent.

Zhao Lu wanted to continue pressing, but his colleague behind him suddenly stepped forward, lowering his voice to Feng Mu, speaking congenially:

“Rest assured, come with us, nothing will happen to you. There are just some matters you may be aware of, or perhaps not, that we need to ask you face-to-face, follow the procedure.

Cooperate a little, clarify what needs explaining, and I guarantee you’ll be back soon.”

He paused, observing Feng Mu’s expression, lowering his voice further as if leaking some inside information: 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

“Let me tell you honestly, your issue is really not a big problem. The Mobility Department isn’t specifically targeting you, otherwise, more than the two of us would have shown up.

Don’t scare yourself, and don’t complicate things by resisting. We’re doing this for your own good.”

After saying this, he straightened up and silently retreated to stand by Zhao Lu’s side, resuming his quiet demeanor, letting Zhao Lu continue projecting an imposing presence.

A typical one plays the good cop, the other the bad cop, soft and hard tactics combined.

If it were someone else, they might really be bluffed by these two and docilely follow to cooperate with the investigation.

Feng Mu seemed genuinely moved; he sighed deeply and said:
