Chapter 826: Chapter 694: Help Me Look After Someone
Li Shang didn’t answer directly, but prompted:
"Take a closer look, pay attention to its structure and cross-section."
Chang Erbing, hearing this, began to observe more attentively, gently touching the surface and broken parts of the stone through the bag with his fingers.
A few seconds later, he suddenly exclaimed softly:
"Captain Li, this middle part of the stone, the material and density seem different from the surrounding areas? It feels... like it’s hollow? Or maybe something has been hollowed out?"
Li Shang took back the evidence bag, held it in his hand, and said thoughtfully:
"Erbing, make a judgment, which part of the villa do you think this stone originally belonged to?
Is it the concrete from the ground, or a block from the wall? And how did this hollow section in the middle form? Was it caused by an explosive impact? Or did it originally exist?"
Chang Erbing was momentarily stunned, then suddenly slapped his thigh as realization dawned upon him:
"Captain Li, I understand what you mean, you’re saying there was a shortcut taken during the construction or renovation of this villa?
Ah, I forgot to report to you, while investigating this renovation team, I accidentally learned that Jia Zhuang’s team is known for taking shortcuts and using substandard materials, resulting in many shoddy construction projects..."
Now it was Li Shang’s turn to look surprised.
No, wasn’t he implying that? He clearly meant to say there was an issue with the villa.
However, Chang Erbing’s line of thought wasn’t entirely wrong, shortcuts are indeed a problem.
Could it be that I’m overthinking this?
Li Shang shook his head, believing that his judgment was correct, after all, such shortcuts shouldn’t warrant the complete destruction of a renovation team.
Just then, a blue and white public service vehicle came to a stop in front of them.
Li Shang opened the car door and got into the back seat, with Chang Erbing following suit, as the vehicle smoothly started moving.
"Return to the Patrol Office," Chang Erbing instructed the constable driving the car.
"Wait a minute!"
Li Shang suddenly spoke, interrupting. He pondered for a moment and changed his mind,
"No, let’s not return to the Patrol Office yet. Let’s go to the Second Prison first."
Out of trust in his friend, since Bai Ye was seconded from the Second Prison, Li Shang thought it would be better to ask directly at Feng Mu’s place.
Doing so presents two possible outcomes.
If Feng Mu is completely unaware of the situation and it’s entirely Bai Ye acting independently, they can discuss how to handle the unstable factor that is Bai Ye.
If Feng Mu is informed about it, or even suggested it, then the matter becomes complicated.
How to deal with it subsequent depends on whether their friendship is strong enough to withstand the test and, more so, on how candid Feng Mu is willing to be with Li Shang.
Li Shang sincerely hoped that their friendship could withstand this test.
Friendship with a madman is too rare, and Li Shang didn’t want to lose it lightly.
"Feng Mu, ah, Feng Mu, don’t let me down this time... I’m already facing enough trouble."
Li Shang thought, weighed down with heavy thoughts.
The blue and white car sped along, with some time left on the road.
Li Shang sorted through his chaotic thoughts while pulling a leather-covered notebook from his briefcase.
The notebook was filled with records of preliminary visits by the Patrol Office, including testimonies of medical staff, bodyguards, and three special service individuals present at Li Hanyu’s villa during the incident.
They were the most likely eyewitnesses, even though they all claimed to have seen nothing and heard nothing.
"They’re collectively lying, but why are they lying? Is it to avoid getting involved, or are there other concerns? The most important question is, what are they hiding?"
Li Shang shook his head, closed the notebook, and sighed helplessly.
He certainly couldn’t question Li Hanyu, regardless of any issues, he couldn’t pursue it, on the contrary, he also had to cover up for the other party.
After all, Li Hanyu was Wang Xinfa’s lover, and Qian Huan even calls the Member of Parliament dad, doesn’t he?
(ps: In Li Shang’s perspective, Li Hanyu, Wang Xinfa, and Qian Huan are like "a family of three," maybe with some bickering behind closed doors, but still "a family of three.")
Li Shang’s irritation lay in the fact that the big figures involved didn’t divulge any potentially hidden secrets of the case, yet they weighed him down with the pressure of solving it.
This way, it’s really difficult, very easy to unknowingly investigate secrets that shouldn’t be investigated, and inadvertently harm allies.
Although the big figures have hinted at his investigative direction, to make the case waterproof, he can’t rely solely on fabrication, ultimately needing some solid "truths" to underpin his findings.
"Ah..."
Li Shang irritably pulled at his hair, a few black strands quietly falling,
"And there’s also that scheming Zheng Geng, constantly finding fault and pressing at every step... it’s really difficult!"
As he was feeling troubled, the high walls of the Second Prison gradually came into view outside the car window.
Tall, gray, and covered with electrified wire, the concrete walls towering over ten meters were like a crouching giant beast. The silhouettes of patrolling prison guards could be faintly seen on the top, giving the entire Second Prison an intimidating air that warned strangers to keep away.
Li Shang took a deep breath, sat up straight, and adjusted his collar.
Facing Feng Mu, a good friend, he needed to bring his full attention.
......
The location was still that lightless office, but this time there was no bizarre video playing, only a desk lamp casting a dim glow over a corner of the desk, leaving most of the room shrouded in deep darkness.
