Chapter 810: Interlude: Origin of the Scourge
Chapter 810: Interlude: Origin of the Scourge
—
The home of the Horde, the one Chaos Realm they’re in, is called the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm, named after the Bug Empress herself.
Eons back, this chaos realm had another name and had numerous races fighting for supremacy over it.
The Insect Race, the very species the Bug Empress was born from, was not one of those.
Their race was tiny, negligible, and utterly powerless creatures that could’ve been wiped out by any other hegemons with a single hand. They mostly attended to their own, scraping by for survival, sometimes enslaved to do others’ bidding.
And then, she was born.
No, she was not special. In fact, she’s just like every other bug in her species. A hybrid between an orb weaver spider and an ant queen. She was a mutation, a mixture of both. Strange, sure, but not completely out of this world.
In her youth, she was loyal. She might not be special, but she had the biggest heart. She was the kindest, the most gentle, and the most forgiving insect there was.
That’s until her own kind sold her to be a plaything of some old and grimy creature.
She was abused, disrespected, trashed, and enslaved very cruelly, an act that wiped out every last bit of innocence and purity within her.
She was defeated, ashamed, and broken.
That’s until she was saved by the man who conquered her heart and made her believe in goodness again.
Her husband, the most patient, kindest, courageous, and bravest warrior she ever laid her eyes on.
He fixed her. He didn’t give up on her even though she had already given up on herself.
At first, she sneered at his optimism. How can she not when she’s practically looking at her old self’s reflection? Wasn’t she the same back then too? And what good did it do to her?
But him, he’s slightly different. He was her old self, only more powerful. He had the strength to back up his claims and the power to accomplish his goals, and he uses it very well.
And his power gave him charisma. One so powerful that it drew people close to him, made them follow him, and helped him achieve his goals.
That’s the fundamental difference between her and him. She’s weak; he’s not.
And this charisma brought by his power? It drew her in too. And after quite some time, she started believing. She started hoping again.
And she thought, maybe…just maybe, things weren’t so bad, after all. Maybe she just had an unlucky start.
And maybe, it’s okay to hope again. To return to how she was back then, only this time, she will have the power to fight back.
That changed her. He changed her and saved her.
They fell in love and started a family. Even though she was lesser than him…even though she was no longer a pure maiden…even though she couldn’t offer him anything in return except for her loyalty and service, he accepted her wholeheartedly.
He loved her, and he proved it to her in both words and action.
That was the happiest she’s ever been. So much so that she believed that nothing could be better than this. And to protect this love of her, she made sure to become as strong as possible so that she could protect him…them…
Alas…fate was determined to take everything she had.
An act of betrayal from one of their own. Greed, selfishness, and trust, broken.
It turns out, one of her husband’s sworn brothers—the very same one who grew up beside him, who had always been there since the beginning…one whom her husband trusted with all of his heart—betrayed him.
He was struck at his most vulnerable moment, and he died in disbelief.
She saw it happen and was powerless to stop it. She was similarly powerless to kill the man who killed her husband.
When asked why? He said that it’s because her husband didn’t deserve anything he had. He called him a thief, an opportunist, and a fraud.
He also didn’t like her, a lesser creature, becoming his wife. He thinks that their love is stupid, nonsense, and utterly disgraceful.
To prove this, he made her watch as he killed their children one by one.
Their dying wails had completely broken her. Their cold and lifeless corpses are plastered in her memory, never to be forgotten.
The cruelest part? His disdain for her is what kept her alive. He believed that it’s beneath his status to dirty his blade with her blood and flesh. So, he left her to the dirty hands of his subordinates.
The nightmare came for her again. And this time, there’s no waking up from it.
She was completely and utterly broken. Her body might’ve been alive, but her heart and soul were dead. She was like a lifeless doll, used and passed off from one man to the next.
And when they got bored of her, they just tossed her out like some trash they couldn’t even be bothered to clean.
It didn’t end there…
She saw how that man tore everything she and her husband built. She witnessed how they changed the narrative, how they painted him as the villain, her as a whore who bewitched him, and so much more.
The ones who used to follow them, who knelt, sang praises, and swore their lives to them, were now the same people who wanted to crucify them.
Meek, weak-willed creatures who bullied the weak and feared the strong. Usurpers, unworthy and disgusting…all of them.
Resentment and madness didn’t just take root in her heart after witnessing all of this; they grew to a towering tree that pierced the heavens themselves.
And for the first time, she didn’t run away from the darkness around her. She opened her arms so wide and embraced it completely.
And in that very same moment, the scourge of the Chaos Realms, she who devours and births—the Crimson Womb Mother, the Bug Empress of the Horde—was coronated.
Standing at the heart where her life fell apart for the second time, she decided that never again.
Fate had taken everything from her twice, and that’s more than enough for her to hate it with all of her being.
She made a decision right then and there…
She wanted everything, and if fate was determined to steal from her again and again, she would have it too. By hook or by crook, she will get her hands on fate itself and strangle it to death. She wanted to look it in the eye as it drew its final breath.
And to start her mission, she bent her body backwards and opened her womb—releasing the first ever bug horde.
At first they were weak, but they evolved fast. They brought back food for their mother, and this allowed her to give birth to faster and stronger bugs.
Within three days, the entire galactic empire she and her husband built, which was usurped by that villain, had been brought to its heels by the horde.
And that villain, he was dragged to her, screaming and crying.
The Bug Empress made him watch as she ate all of his wives and children, alive and begging for him to save them, piece by piece. She broke him just like he did to her, only more cruelly.
The irony of it all is that she lived. He didn’t. Because she ate him too.
And the catharsis brought by revenge was oh so sweet that she craved it. So much so that she directed her children to her old world. The home of the Insect Race.
They were the ones who broke her heart first. And for the second time, she tasted how sweet vengeance could be.
She ate them all too and remade them as her children, whether they liked to or not. Even suicide couldn’t prevent them from escaping her clutches.
Although it’s too bad that that old and grimy creature who took her innocence had been long dead, his kind remained, and she deemed them just as disgusting as he was.
So, she took out her anger on them. And yep, you guessed it. She ate them all too and added their genes to the gene bank of her spawns.
Once she started, the Bug Empress never stopped.
With each world she conquered and devoured, her strength rose. So much so that within 10 years, the Horde established themselves as the cruelest and vilest species that has ever been created.
Everybody feared them so much that they joined hands to eradicate them completely. Alas, she has grown too strong for them to handle.
Before they realized that they were just helping her become strong by throwing bodies her way, she had already wiped out most of them.
The Bug Empress didn’t take prisoners. She would rather eat them all and turn them into her children instead of giving them even a shred of dignity, because she had seen how that ends, and she swore that she’d never fall for it again.
That’s how the source of the scourge was born. That’s how the vilest and most evil villain was created.
This was the origin of the Crimson Womb Mother.
