Endless Extraction in a Game-Like World
Chapter 449: Mystic Code Of Destruction
Caelus chose to extract as the destructive radiation washed over them again. This time a thread of that power broke away from the dragon’s remains and rushed toward him.
[Talent Activated: Endless Extraction.]
[Ding! You have obtained the Mystic Code of Destruction.]
Caelus read the notification twice and then felt for the new power inside his Divine Body. The Destruction Mystic Code was right there, and he broke into a grin as it answered him.
Volcra had already shown him how terrifying destruction could be. Now he could use that power directly instead of relying on a single spell to release it.
"This trip was worth it."
Caelus couldn’t stop smiling as he drew a little of the power toward his hand. Even that small amount felt dangerous enough that he moved it away from Sylvia and the Star Whistle.
[Mystic Code Activated: Destruction.]
A thin streak formed above his palm. He held it there for a moment and tried to bring its edges together, but more power gathered than he had intended.
He swiftly reduced the amount and shaped what remained into a small point. It looked harmless beside the enormous bones in front of them, yet he could feel the destruction pressing against his control.
Caelus guided the point toward a large slab of meteor floating nearby. The moment it touched the surface, the stone began breaking apart without a sound.
He cut off the power and watched the rest crumble. There had been no need to strike it with force or surround it in flames.
What would happen if he built a proper spell from this code? Even the thought of using it with Volcra made him eager to find somewhere he could practice.
For now he drew the remaining power back into himself. He will test it out more later.
Edran was looking toward a glow beyond the dragon’s remains when he spoke again.
"There’s a cluster of Progression Power nearby. Would you both like to take a look?"
Caelus watched him for a while without answering. First Edran had invited them to his palace and then personally brought them to the dragon’s remains.
Now he was offering them a chance to grow stronger as well. They had only just met, so why was he being this generous?
The thought took some of the excitement out of Caelus’s smile. He still knew very little about this man or what he might want from them.
But if Edran intended to kill them, he could do it without going through all this trouble. Caelus had seen enough of his strength to know that neither he nor Sylvia could stop him.
He decided to accept the offer and keep the question to himself for now.
"Yes, we’d like to take a look."
Edran guided the Star Whistle away from the bones. As they passed the edge of a broken wing, Caelus saw a vast cloud of pale blue light hanging in the darkness.
The light slowly gathered into thick streams and spread apart again. It was different from the destructive power around the corpse, and Caelus watched it closely as they approached.
Edran stopped the artifact near the cloud and explained what they needed to do.
"You have to guide the power into yourself and make it your own. How much you can absorb depends on your ability to understand and control it.
"It isn’t easy even when there’s plenty of power around you. Absorbing a cluster can take several days or even several years.
"Each god rank has ten levels, and this power is what allows you to advance through them. Don’t expect to take in everything at once when you’ve only just encountered it."
Caelus listened until Edran finished and then entered the cluster with Sylvia. Pale blue streams drifted around his arms as he tried to feel how they responded to him.
He had barely reached toward one when a familiar system panel appeared.
[Would you like to extract?]
Caelus stared at it and felt his smile return. Several days or several years suddenly sounded like someone else’s problem.
He accepted the offer without hesitation.
[Talent Activated: Endless Extraction.]
The streams around him changed direction at once and rushed into his Divine Body. Power surged through him as the surrounding light thinned.
[Ding! Progression Power extracted.]
[You have gained 5 levels.]
[Rank: Demigod]
[Level: 1 -> 5 (85%)]
[Power Index: 78 (Demigod Level 5).]
Caelus felt the change throughout his body. His strength had risen with those five levels even though the displayed score remained seventy-eight.
He closed his hand and felt the greater power answer him. The difference was clear enough that he wanted to try his new Destruction Mystic Code again right away.
He had come here looking for the dragon’s remains and had gained five levels on top of the code. At this rate he might actually begin to enjoy being lost in another universe.
"I-in an instant?"
Edran had moved to the edge of the cluster. His gaze passed from the light still moving around Caelus to the space it had emptied.
Sylvia chuckled at his expression while Caelus let the last stream settle inside him. She remained nearby with a small amount of Progression Power gathered between her hands.
A thin trail entered her Divine Body as she worked, but most of the power continued drifting around her. Caelus returned to her side and watched her try to draw another stream inward.
There was no Endless Extraction to handle it for her. With so much Progression Power right in front of them, he wanted to find a way for Sylvia to benefit from it too.
"Looks like you can’t extract it the way I can. I’ll think of a way to help you."
Sylvia nodded and released the power she had been gathering. Caelus took her hand as they moved back toward the Star Whistle.
For now his attention returned to the destruction pouring from the dragon’s remains.
It was time to extract this dragon’s remains.
