Endless Extraction in a Game-Like World
Chapter 440: New Faction Benefit with Invincibility
Caelus opened the Faction Benefit Creation Kit again and thought about what his members needed during a long fight. The new titles would help them, but they could still run out of recovery items before the battle ended.
What if killing an enemy gave them another potion?
He began entering the proposal before another idea came to mind. If he could reward those kills with Combat Score instead, his people would grow stronger while fighting.
The system would probably reject that immediately.
However, he had thought the same thing before using Sovereign Discount on the ascension requirement. His Ender power had changed the result, and he wanted to see whether it could do the same here.
First, he decided to finish the simpler benefit.
[Benefit Proposal: Battle Supplies.]
[Killing a member of an enemy faction grants one HP or Mana recovery potion.]
[Reward applies to enemy faction members only.]
[Proposal Approved.]
[50% Discount Applied.]
[Final Cost: 10,000 Contribution Points.]
Caelus accepted the cost before opening the next proposal. Ten thousand points was a small price for something that would help his members keep fighting.
[Battle Supplies Activated.]
"That should save them a few trips to buy supplies."
Then he considered the enormous amount of HP and Mana spread across his faction. With more than ninety billion members, most of them would be somewhere safe while others fought.
Could those safe members help the people in danger?
Caelus entered the conditions and submitted the proposal.
[Benefit Proposal: Chaos Lifeline.]
[When a protected member takes damage from a stronger opponent or an enemy faction member, continuously restore their HP and Mana.]
[Recovery draws small portions of HP and Mana from safe faction members regardless of distance.]
[Members in danger cannot be selected as donors.]
[Transfers cannot empty a donor’s HP or Mana.]
[Proposal Rejected.]
Caelus read the result without much surprise.
If his members could keep recovering through the support of the entire faction, exhausting them would become almost impossible. The system was hardly going to let him create that without a fight.
He reached for his Origin power and focused on the restriction.
[Ender’s Passive: Rule Override.]
The rejection remained in place as his power pressed against it. Then the letters flickered for a moment before returning to normal.
Caelus immediately tried again.
He had seen the restriction react, which meant he had a chance to break through it.
[Proposal Rejected.]
"You can keep saying that. I’ve got time."
Over the next several hours, he worked on the same proposal without leaving his seat. Sometimes the words scattered across the panel before returning, while other attempts seemed to accomplish nothing.
Every small change encouraged him to keep trying.
When Sylvia entered the room, he was still staring at the latest rejection.
"What are you doing in here? You haven’t moved since I last checked."
"I’m trying to make us very difficult to kill."
"That sounds like something I should know about."
Caelus showed her the proposal while keeping his power against the restriction. Once she finished reading it, she understood why he refused to leave it alone.
"You’re trying to make the whole faction keep you alive?"
"Not just me. You and the others will benefit too."
"And how long have you been trying?"
"Long enough that I’d like something sweet."
Sylvia looked at him before laughing.
"You became a God and still expect me to bring you snacks."
"I can survive without them. That doesn’t mean I want to."
She returned with several kinds of sweets and placed them beside him. After realizing he would not look away long enough to choose one, she began feeding him while he worked.
Twelve hours after his first attempt, Caelus’s eyes were bloodshot and the proposal still refused to pass.
Then the restriction finally gave way.
[Ding! Rules Overruled.]
[Benefit: Chaos Lifeline.]
[Proposal Approved.]
[Implementation Cost: 1,000,000 Contribution Points.]
Caelus nearly knocked the plate out of Sylvia’s hand as he turned toward her. She moved it aside just before he pulled her into his arms.
"It worked, Sylvia! Look at the approval!"
She checked the notice and then the benefit beneath it.
"You actually forced the faction system to accept this."
"I knew it would give in eventually."
He reached for the payment prompt before another thought stopped him.
"Wait. If I can change that restriction, perhaps I can make the benefit free too."
Sylvia offered him another sweet hearing this and couldn’t help but speak.
"Pay for it before it suddenly resets back to being rejected."
Sylvia was right. Caelus considered the approval notice and decided not to push his luck. He could try avoiding the cost another time, what if the system fins out an rejects just in time? He definitely didn’t want it.
[1,000,000 Contribution Points Deducted.]
[Chaos Lifeline Benefit Activated.]
The completed benefit appeared among the faction’s rewards.
Caelus read through it again with a wide smile. They could now gain recovery potions from enemy kills and draw support from safe members whenever the protection triggered.
He had already started thinking about another benefit when Sylvia noticed him opening a new proposal.
"You’re not finished, are you?"
"I want to try one more thing."
[Benefit Proposal: Origin Supremacy.]
[Faction members deal 100% more damage to targets that do not share their origin.]
[Proposal Rejected.]
Caelus activated his override again while Sylvia stared at the familiar notice.
"This one might take a little longer."
It took another forty-eight hours.
By then, Caelus had grown tired of watching the same words refuse to change. However, he could feel his power pushing farther into the restriction with each attempt.
He kept going until the rejection finally broke.
[Ding! Rules Overruled.]
[Benefit Proposal Approved.]
[Implementation Cost: 100,000,000 Contribution Points.]
Caelus read the cost and slowly lowered his hand.
"One hundred million? Are you charging me for the time I spent making it work?"
Doubling the damage of everyone in the faction would include himself and Sylvia. That increase could make an enormous difference against stronger opponents, so he understood why the system valued it so highly.
Understanding the price did not make him like it.
He checked his current balance before opening King’s Gamble.
[Contribution Points: 18,372,491.]
Sylvia saw the wheel appear and set down the plate she was carrying.
"I was wondering when you’d decide gambling was the answer."
"A good result would save me a lot of trouble."
[Talent Activated: King’s Gamble.]
[Contribution Points Wagered: 18,372,491.]
Caelus watched the wheel spin as the larger multipliers passed beneath the pointer. Tenfold would cover the benefit, while even fivefold would bring him close.
The wheel slowed and stopped on a smaller result.
[Multiplier: 2x.]
[Contribution Points: 18,372,491 → 36,744,982.]
Caelus sighed as he compared the new balance with the price.
He had doubled his points, yet he still needed more than sixty-three million to buy the benefit.
"At least you won," Sylvia comforted her gambling addict boyfriend.
"That’s true, but I would’ve appreciated a little more enthusiasm from the wheel."
He left Origin Supremacy approved but unpurchased before returning to Chaos Lifeline. The damage bonus could wait, because the protection he had already created was worth celebrating.
Now he needed to decide who would receive it.
