Endless Evolution: Last Star
Chapter 1974: Island A215
“Hurry! We have to kill that bastard, or we’ll all be in big trouble!” exclaimed the woman with long, light-colored hair.
To her right, a man with black hair and a short beard was flying. His blue eyes, like hers, were fixed on their target – an island in the distance.
Behind them were three more people – a girl and two young men. The girl had short platinum hair and a piercing gaze full of impatience. She was flying slightly ahead of the two young men, and she had every right to do so since she was stronger.
“We’re almost at Island A215.” The bearded man’s voice rang out as he continued to look ahead.
“Yes. Perhaps we’ll be able to take some of the crystal’s power from him. Not much time has passed since he absorbed it.”
Then, the woman turned and looked at the girl.
“Are you ready, Luaxa?”
She nodded deeply as her green eyes grew darker.
“Yes, Miss Raoha. That crystal was meant to be mine. I was supposed to become the next Viscount of our clan!”
The bearded man nodded deeply.
“Indeed. Breydar… His appearance and actions were planned long ago, but no one expected this. It’s a major blow to our clan, but we can make amends, unlike if we fail again.”
Everyone understood what the man meant.
They, two viscounts and three barons, were supposed to find and kill Breydar. If they couldn’t do that, the Befallen Crown would decide they were utterly useless and were only tarnishing the reputation of this great faction.
Well, in that case, the Befallen Crown was right. If five lords couldn’t kill a single viscount, then they really were useless.
“We’ll do it,” Luaxa said with complete confidence. “We’ll prove that our clan can one day have its own True Lord!”
For many factions in the world, having a True Lord in their ranks was a guarantee of safety and even freedom.
Sure, a single True Lord couldn’t protect a clan from the wrath of the Citadel or the Befallen Crown, but such situations rarely arose.
Haworg was right, and if the Veiled Souls Clan had a True Lord, they wouldn’t have to tremble in fear of the Befallen Crown.
In fact, Breydar would hardly have been able to steal their crystal and escape so far if they’d had a True Lord on their side. That Lord would have easily caught up with and killed Breydar.
“Sure.” Raoha tried to stay calm. “We… We’re already here.”
In the distance, they could see the island where their thief was hiding.
The island was large and wide, filled with tall crystal pillars brimming with energy. It was an island consisting mostly of rocks and crystals. The light was bright enough to obscure everything on the island itself.
So how could the others have known that this was Island A215?
Strange as it may seem, it was all about the water. The crystals and rocks extended underwater, where, long ago, someone had carved them in a specific way so that the light emanating from them would create the desired pattern on the surface, resembling the number 215.
It was precisely this pattern that Raoha, Luaxa, and the other three members of the Veiled Souls Clan were now looking at.
“We’re here,” Raoha said, coming to a stop.
“You can feel it, can’t you?” the man asked.
She nodded.
“There’s only one aura on this island, and it’s undoubtedly Breydar’s.”
Raoha’s gaze filled with anger as she clenched her fists tightly.
“I can still sense the remnants of the crystal’s energy that this bastard absorbed.”
The others agreed.
But if they could sense Breydar’s aura, then he was capable of doing so as well.
And there was a reason why Breydar had decided to stop on this very island.
Tremble!
The island shook as one of the crystal pillars glowed brightly.
An energy beam shot out from it, heading straight for Raoha.
She held out her arm as the energy flows surged forward, forming a protective barrier around her that seemed to consist of a dense, ghostly mist.
The blast swept past Raoha in streams of flame, but it didn’t even make her blink.
She knew that Breydar would use the island’s resources to defend himself, and… this was only the beginning.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Island A215 trembled, but this time, the tremor was significantly stronger.
Dozens of crystal pillars shone brightly as the barrage began. In addition to dense beams, there were also high-speed shots that, like homing missiles, split into clusters, and the energy shards headed toward their targets.
Breydar braced himself. He knew that on this island he would be able to use his energy as effectively as possible, since his energy type and abilities were better suited for this than those of many other monsters.
However, if that were enough to defeat two Viscounts and three Barons, no one would fear their power.
Raoha, Luaxa, and the others held out their hands, creating protective barriers.
For a long time, they would have to block the light rays until the energy in the crystal pillars ran out. The bright flashes of explosions and flames lit up the dark sky over the Gray Sea.
Breydar’s goal was not to defeat them or kill them. He wanted to drain their strength, and he would certainly succeed in that task.
“I thought so.”
The man with chest-length gray hair nodded, watching the multitude of explosions high above.
“They decided to defend themselves. That was their mistake. Now… they’ll waste a lot of energy on it.”
Suddenly, a calm, different voice came from the side:
“I agree with you.”
A shiver ran down the man’s spine as he spun around abruptly. The shock was evident on his face as his wide-open amber eyes reflected the young man with black hair and calm blue eyes.
“They should have gone all out and attacked you right away. Sure, they would have been wounded, but they would have had enough strength to kill you. After all, there are five of them, and you’re alone.”
Adam’s gaze was calm, fixed solely on the man.
“Did I say everything correctly, Breydar?”
