Endless Evolution As A Skeleton In A Game-Like World
Chapter 185: [185] How To Kill An Elder
Charge fire was a spell Ark had awakened while trying to overload a volcano. Needless to say, when it came to raw, explosive power, charge fire trumped every other spell in his arsenal.
It was just the perfect skill for the job.
BOOOM!
Firing the spell felt like giving a kid a shotgun and asking him to shoot. Ark was nearly flung back by the impact alone.
A shockwave cut past them as the fireball soared, slamming right into the wyvern and flinging it backward, corroded with fire.
Ark let out a chuckle. "Damn..." He flexed his wrist.
He could feel how much mana that single spell had cost him, and it was enormous. It was not as bad as the mana his S-ranked spells took, but it was just a step behind them.
Considering his foe, he had to be frugal with his mana, understand just what he was going against, before unleashing the killing blow.
Sadly, although Ark had a number of S-rank spells, he could not just spam them like a sage. Well, unless he wanted to run out of mana halfway through the battle.
"Jenna."
Ark sent her a mental command as he raced towards the shattered window and jumped.
He was immediately assaulted by the cold as he cut right through the blizzard, headfirst, like a diver.
He could see the wyvern in the distance. It had been destabilised by the attack, but as expected, it barely took any damage.
A roaring laugh escaped Ark’s teeth.
"I always wanted to do this! \(Fly\)."
His body immediately felt incredibly light, as though angels had taken him in their arms, and then Ark launched himself back into the sky.
Clasp!
Jenna, who had jumped at the same time as him, landed on his back, her arms wrapped around his neck.
Out of the castle, Mountain slowly soared into the sky, standing atop a metal platform.
In his hand was a double-edged axe that he had fashioned out of parts of his armour, resting smoothly on his shoulder.
Cleopatra appeared after him, floating on one of his metal platforms as well, but as for Inquisitor...
Step!
He walked right into the air. No suspension, no flight spell, no metal platform. He simply trekked along the wind as though daring it to pull him down, and with both arms clasped behind his back, he stared at the wyvern.
Swoosh!
The wyvern cut through the air, charging towards them from below.
"You nyantch! Do you think you will get away with this?!" The riders screamed out curses.
Inquisitor seemed offended that such a lowly creature would curse at his master. He raised his hand and swung it down in one clean arc.
Ark felt the energy course past him, and then...
Bang!
The wyvern slammed into something hard and invisible, sending it back down a few feet before it snarled and broke right through it.
"You all know the plan..." Ark said out loud. There was no need to. Once he gave a command, his summons would follow it to a T.
Still, Ark felt like talking.
Staring at the gigantic monster that soared towards him, a beast that had tanked Charge Fire as though it were a blowtorch, and the mage that had nothing but bad intentions, Ark knew that the risks in this fight were far greater than ever before.
"Let’s burn that oversized bird!"
Yellow lightning coursed around his body, his eyes glowing gold as he raised his staff, pointing it towards the wyvern.
TZZZZZZ!
Lightning streaked through the air like the descent of a mighty storm, multiple streaks of current charging right at the wyvern.
The goblin rider raised his crooked staff, and suddenly, a massive, hexagon-patterned shield appeared around him and the wyvern.
The sound of raging thunder followed...
Booom!
Lightning crackled over the shield, kissing its surface, probing for a weakness... there were none. The shield shimmered and cracked, but it did not break. The wyvern arrived...
Swish!
A gigantic tail slashed toward him like a fluid pillar. Ark immediately jerked back, only for a claw swipe to nearly tear off his head.
The wind from the attack alone slammed into him, almost knocking him out of the air, and by the time he had righted himself...
"Shit!"
Maybe he should have practised flight a lot more...
The wyvern was right in front of him, its maw wide open, the heat of its breath washing over Ark’s bones as it prepared a breath attack.
Boom!
An invisible force slammed into the wyvern’s back, followed by more explosive strikes that bounced harmlessly off its scales, right at the spot between its wings.
Mountain landed on the monster’s back and went right to that same spot, hacking and slashing, pulling off little chunks of scale.
The wyvern was tough enough to take some of their strongest abilities. That was why they needed a point of focus. If it had no weaknesses...
All they had to do was create one!
"You rats!" The goblin rider sent a ball of green fire towards Mountain, but Cleopatra appeared, slicing it into pieces, and then they quickly retreated.
The wyvern and rider turned back to where Ark was, only to see two fire spells flying towards them.
Destructive Fire, and Jenna’s blue flames...
The fire rushed right into the open maw of the wyvern, just before they exploded, snapping its head back in the other direction.
Ark lunged back, speeding away, and just as he expected, the wyvern returned their fire with a gift of its own.
Vwooooooosh!
A stream of air gushed out of its mouth, chasing after Ark. He flew in zigzag patterns and managed to escape the slicing winds, but he still had the wyvern looming behind him.
’What the hell?!’ He knew the monster would be strong, but how did it eat two fire spells like they were candy?!
The goblin rider sent chaotic balls of wind ripping forward. Jenna turned to face them, countering them with fireballs of her own.
Explosions ripped through the air, the sky awash with colours.
Ark turned around and hurled a bolt of lightning. He had hoped it would slow it down, even if by a little bit...
But the wyvern slashed with its claws, dismantling the spell.
Jenna waved her staff in the air as the wind rushed past them, causing their clothes to billow.
Small black spots appeared just before they increased in size, turning into large spikes.
VWOOOOSH!
At the same time, Cleopatra swung her sword from behind, sending a golden stream of energy down towards its wing.
Inquisitor’s pull on gravity stalled its movements for a second, and then Mountain transformed every part of his armour into dozens of steel arrows, each one of them whistling through the wind as it rushed down.
The wyvern was trapped with hell on both sides, and yet, the goblin rider laughed.
"You may gather all the ants in the world if you wish, but at the end of the day, an ant will always be an ant!!"
