Endless Debt
Chapter 1588: Upon the Edge of Blade and Sword
Chapter 1588: Chapter 101: Upon the Edge of Blade and Sword
A severe dizziness hit my head, my senses felt completely distorted, and a strange buzzing sound echoed incessantly by my ears, as if reciting a certain elusive spell.
Serey collapsed among the shattered tables and chairs. In his blurred vision, he saw a broken table leg piercing into his body, as if he had been hit by shrapnel, leaving a myriad of bloody dots on his body.
Since his retirement, Serey hadn’t fought anyone in a long time, nor had anyone fought him. His mind was wandering, and an unfamiliar yet familiar feeling gradually enveloped his senses.
After a brief loss of focus, a fierce malice grew in Serey’s heart, the aura that accompanied him when he was the Night Race Lord. After so many years, it returned once more.
The ticking sound of blood gradually ceased, and Serey’s body completely healed itself. He pulled out the broken spike from his body, and a savage rage flashed in his scarlet eyes.
Wei’Er stepped back a few paces, her hair bristling. At the Undying Club, scuffles would occasionally break out, but this time was different. Serey’s anger had been ignited, summoning the fury that had been dormant in his heart for years.
“Are you angry with me, Serey?”
Sai Zong, looking relaxed, casually sat on the high stool by the bar, flexing the arm he had just punched with. His slender, skeletal arm contained extraordinary strength. Had he not intentionally held back, that punch would have sent Serey flying.
Serey growled, “You… you bastard.”
“Me? I do not deny it, but what about you? You’re no better than me, are you?”
Sai Zong continued to mock Serey, waving at Bode behind him, who handed him a glass of liquor.
As the temporary bartender of the Undying Club, Bode was undoubtedly much more professional than Serey. This conflict didn’t affect him at all… or perhaps it did, but his face was just pale bones, devoid of any expression even if he were shocked.
“Besides, Serey, why are you angry with me?”
Sai Zong drained his drink and questioned, “What reason do you have to swing your fist at me?”
“You! Olivia, you’re sending her to die!”
Serey deeply understood the prowess and terror of his own father, something he avoided facing his entire life. But now, Olivia was heading into that dark whirlpool, and perhaps she was already standing before the Night King.
“I didn’t force Olivia, she went willingly.”
Sai Zong showed a grim smile; he rarely smiled.
Serey was momentarily stunned; a familiar situation returned, the persistent shadow and the deep pain causing his hands to tremble inexplicably. He tried to control his arm, but it just shook more violently.
“Damn it! Damn it!”
Serey cursed repeatedly. As a Night Race Lord, he couldn’t even control his own hands.
“Why are you angry?” Sai Zong asked again. “You don’t love Olivia, do you? Even if she came to you pleading for help, you’d still hide in the shadows, unwilling to step forward.”
Sai Zong looked at Serey disdainfully, speaking cruelly, “You should be happy, Serey, she’s about to die, and no one will bother you anymore.”
Serey stood frozen, staring at Sai Zong, his eyes so scarlet they seemed to bleed.
Wei’Er silently distanced herself. As an onlooker, she knew exactly what Sai Zong was doing, and she also understood that under the layers of provocation, no one knew what reckless act Serey might commit.
Madman.
Wei’Er always thought that beneath Serey’s seemingly calm demeanor hid an emotionally unstable, mentally immature madman.
It was hard to imagine what Serey’s childhood was like. As the firstborn son of the Night King, he’d been instilled with a warped worldview from birth, becoming the Night King’s finest executioner. Ordinarily, he should’ve stood firmly by his father’s side, yet he betrayed his rank for the death of a woman.
Others might see Serey as an affectionate person, but Wei’Er only saw him as a madman, willing to easily cast aside power and authority for so-called love.
Such madmen are the hardest to deal with, and it is such madmen whose actions are filled with strangeness and uncertainty, making one deeply uneasy.
Sai Zong and Serey faced off, continuing to prick at Serey’s heart, “Am I wrong, Serey? On the contrary, you should thank me. I solved such an annoying problem for you.”
Serey remained silent, his chest heaving violently. If one listened closely, they could hear the tumultuous heartbeat.
The silence persisted for a long time. Slowly, Serey unclenched his fists and took a few steps back, his footing becoming unsteady, and he stumbled back into the shadows, collapsing onto the ground.
Unlike the fierce demeanor from moments ago, Serey now appeared lost and desolate, like a homeless person seen on the streets.
His eyes drooped, filled with sadness and a gloomy mist.
“Sorry.”
After a long time, Serey finally forced out this sentence.
Sai Zong withdrew the mockery from his face. The current scene inexplicably resembled a street in the afternoon. Sai Zong was unsure of his role, but he was sure that Serey was undoubtedly the destitute, humble man without a home.
