Endless Debt
Chapter 1555 - 84: Golden Skyline (2)
Aisha did not abandon Serey and continued to follow him, but as time passed, Aisha grew increasingly haggard. Although she was an Undead, her body was filled with a strange deathly aura.
"I remember this, Serey."
Aisha sat on the broad terrace, gazing at the field not far away, "We came here before, probably decades ago."
Serey walked out from inside, gently placing his hand on Aisha’s shoulder, "Oh? Really? I have no recollection."
"It’s normal for you not to remember," Aisha pointed towards the desolate plain, "There used to be a sea of flowers there, very beautiful. We lingered here for a long time and even asked someone to paint an oil painting."
Aisha remembered all of this; this was a land she had once personally measured. "Sadly, with the Dark Iron Curtain covering it, all life on the land has ceased, even the sea of flowers in my memory has withered into this appearance, leaving only cracked earth."
Serey said nothing.
Laughter resounded from inside the house, and a small figure stumbled over, rushing into Aisha’s embrace.
"Alright, alright."
Aisha picked up Olivia, vigorously rubbing her head, making her giggle endlessly.
Serey quietly observed this brief moment of happiness until Olivia grew tired and fell asleep in Aisha’s arms.
"You know, I once planned that after Olivia grew up, I would take her to retrace the paths I walked, to see the world I have witnessed."
Aisha gazed at the barren plain, "I’m afraid that before she grows up, the world I have seen will vanish under the Dark Iron Curtain, won’t it?"
"Aisha..."
Serey wanted to say something but was directly interrupted by Aisha.
"Serey, are you doing what you promised me?"
"Yes."
"Did you find it?" Aisha asked, "In these years, have you found something you could live for?"
Serey said with uncertainty, "I’m still looking."
"Oh."
Aisha did not overly press Serey, just moved her gaze away from the wilderness, looking farther into the distance, where there was a familiar golden skyline. In the blurry scene, countless figures, like ant swarms, could be seen advancing relentlessly.
That was a battlefield where a multitude of Bloodthirsty beings surged out from under the dark sky, engaged in battle with soldiers standing in the sunlight. Swords broke, flesh was chopped, and an endless sea of blood stained the ground, soaking into the earth.
Initially, Aisha resisted such scenes, but as Serey advanced the battle lines, always by Serey’s side, she gradually became numb to it all.
After each wave of Bloodthirsty assaults, the elite of the Night Race would strike from the shadows of the Dark Iron Curtain. Riding alchemically modified war horses, they charged like a torrent across the brutal battlefield.
Aisha asked, "Are you setting out?"
"Soon," Serey whispered, "Once the cavalry replenishes their blood, we’ll move out."
Before he finished speaking, a heart-wrenching lament sounded from below the terrace. Aisha watched expressionlessly, knowing what would happen next. Such incidents had played out countless times over the years.
The armored Night Race dragged a group of ordinary people to the empty space in the Central Courtyard. Rows of gallows were neatly arranged, the wood repeatedly stained with blood, bearing a strange crimson hue, resembling living flesh, or maybe rows of standing guards.
The ground was strewn with accumulated bloodstains, and despite the Night Race constantly splashing clean water and scrubbing repeatedly, they couldn’t wash away the color, as if it had seeped into the earth beneath.
Not far away, the Night Race dragged cold corpses, throwing them into cages, and the starving Bloodthirsty swarmed, devouring the bodies eagerly, leaving no piece of flesh or blood behind.
As the flesh entered their stomachs, the Bloodthirsty were awakened to a strong craving for more; their hunger drove them to seek more flesh. They roared restlessly like beasts, their eerie cries continuing, echoing under the darkened sky.
During the expansion of the Eternal Night Empire, the cries of the Bloodthirsty were seen as the bugles for charge. Driven by deep hatred and hunger for flesh, they roared through enemy lines, followed by Iron Armor cavalry, who eradicated all living beings.
Everything happened as Aisha predicted. After brief feeding, draft horses pulled prisoner carts, transporting herds of Bloodthirsty to the frontline.
The sound of hooves rose, the cavalry’s formations were orderly, moving in pairs through the gallows. As they arrived, the Night Race hung people upside down on the gallows, under their heads were pitch-black vats.
Sobs and cries of despair were cut short by daggers.
Blood gushed from their throats, filling the vats, initially struggling, their bodies slowly quieting until after exhausting all blood, the Night Race lowered the bodies, feeding them to the Bloodthirsty and then brought in another batch of humans, throat slitting, blood extracting.
The vats gradually filled to the brim, and when the cavalry passed through, they bent over, scooping blood from the vats, pouring it into their mouths. As blood went down their throats, the Night Race too was incited to a terrible killing intent, galloping their horses.
Like a brutal cycle, people were slaughtered, utilized, dragged about like livestock.
