Both of them calmed down for a moment, then Serey spoke, "Don’t you love me anymore?"

"Of course, I still love you," Aisha said calmly, "It’s just... I’m just tired of this pitch-dark world."

Aisha held the baby in her arms, maintaining absolute stability in her emotions, her mind rational, and her gaze clear like a sage who has unraveled the world’s mysteries.

"Serey, have you seriously thought about why you seek immortality? Is it merely to escape the Death God?"

...

By the fireplace, Sai Zong curiously asked, "Did she question you like that at the time?"

"Yes."

Serey stared at the flames in the fireplace, his eyes stinging but he didn’t look away, "To think her questions back then hit me like a Heavy Hammer, I suddenly realized that, seemingly since birth, I haven’t thought about such things."

"Isn’t that just how it is?" Serey smiled helplessly, "I’m the Night King’s son, born with eternal life; it’s like a person asking a bird about the feeling of soaring in the sky—that ability I possess naturally, and I can’t understand the feelings of ordinary people."

Serey was immensely melancholic in his recollections; suddenly he realized something peculiar in the conversation, and he questioned, "Wait, did you leave me alone just to ask these things?"

"Partly, yes? I’ve observed you for a long time, but you’re very tight-lipped, never speaking of the past," Sai Zong scrutinized Serey, "I’m very curious about what exactly you’ve gone through to become like this."

"Huh?"

Serey doubted he heard correctly, a chill spreading at the bottom of his heart; heck, all this time in the Undying Club, he’s been under someone’s watch.

"Are you a voyeur?" Serey asked cautiously.

"I’m just extremely curious about the stories of each Undead."

Sai Zong, with a calm face and tone, said it’s not voyeurism but a long-term academic research.

"Everyone’s life journey is different, and the reasons that lead us to become Undead are entirely different," Sai Zong suddenly questioned, "Serey, you must have your questions about all of this, right?"

Serey put away his smile, memories stirred within him, "That’s exactly what I’m going to talk about later."

"Great, I’m the same way, every Undead is like that," Sai Zong said softly, "I’m troubled by a certain question too, always unable to find an answer, so I once thought I could find some reference from you, and other Undeads."

"Oh... I see."

Serey’s eyes were dazed, he wanted to continue the previous topic, but the words on his lips scattered like smoke and dust, not a sound could come out.

"Still unwilling to talk?" Sai Zong saw the resistance in Serey’s eyes.

Serey silently nodded, then shook his head, finally he powerlessly covered his face, nails fiercely scratching, personal struggle lasted half a minute, he finally released himself.

"There are some pasts I don’t want to talk about."

"You can keep them to yourself."

"Alright."

Serey recalled, it was already a hundred years ago, but Serey’s memory hadn’t faded or blurred because of it. Instead, his memory was incredibly precise, every image as sharp and clear as a blade.

In the memory, Aisha questioned.

"Serey, we gave up our souls to gain immortality, there must be some reason for it, right?"

"Of course, the life we’ve gotten now, this near eternal beauty, isn’t that what we deserve?"

Serey didn’t understand; he couldn’t grasp why Aisha, having already gained eternal life, was still unsatisfied.
