Chapter 1488 - 1529: He Carries Her

As for the X-ray, since Amelia Foster had taken her daughter for one at the hospital not long after arriving at the May residence, the time interval was too short to do another.

Amelia was eager to take her daughter for a check-up, but this time, the little one seemed to be in more pain than before, struggling even more so that Amelia almost couldn’t hold her daughter, nearly letting go.

"Let me." Jeremiah May, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.

"Ah?" Amelia was stunned. Even though the person in front of her was just a twelve-year-old child, the aura he carried, plus her daughter in her arms who kept crying out for the big brother, made Amelia involuntarily hand her daughter over to Jeremiah May.

Strangely enough, the little one immediately stopped struggling when she landed in Jeremiah’s arms. Her little hands grasped his chest tightly like she was clutching her favorite toy.

This made Amelia a little surprised, and even more surprising was that the little one’s breathing began to stabilize, and she gradually stopped crying out in pain, with her complexion starting to recover.

What’s going on?

Not only Amelia and her son found it strange, but even Jeremiah May thought it was odd. If it weren’t for the pale complexion, the trembling, and the sweat-soaked head, things a five-year-old couldn’t fake, he might have suspected it was all an act by the little one in his arms.

Jeremiah carried the little one to get a blood draw, with Amelia and her son following alongside.

When Amelia rolled up her daughter’s sleeve to facilitate the nurse drawing blood, Jeremiah noticed the little one’s fair skin still bore some tiny scars, not very apparent, but surprising on a five-year-old nonetheless.

"What’s with these little scars on this child’s body?" It was the nurse about to draw blood who asked a question Jeremiah also wanted to know the answer to.

"Oh, the child got them when she fell off a hillside." Amelia replied, although in truth, she didn’t know what happened. When she found Nuna, besides the head wound, her body had several other injuries, all superficial, not as severe as the head wound.

So, the nurse didn’t ask further and proceeded with the blood draw. The little one made no sound, following instructions to stretch out her arm and endure the needle, which left the nurse marveling at how rarely she’d seen a child so tolerant of pain.

Little did she know, the pain the little one endured before was far worse.

As soon as the blood draw was over, the little one continued to cuddle comfortably in Jeremiah’s arms, with her little arms automatically wrapping around his neck. This made Jeremiah quite uncomfortable as he was unaccustomed to close physical contact with people, even if the person was just a five-year-old child.

He was more used to keeping a certain distance from others, which instead made him feel at ease.

"Nuna, did it hurt when they drew your blood just now? Mommy will buy you something delicious later." Amelia said.

The little one tilted her head, and after Amelia repeated her words twice, the child seemed to understand and shook her head, saying, "Not hurt, big brother... hug, not hurt, Nuna not hurt..."
