Chapter 1465 - 1506: Entering the May Family
So she brought her children here to work, planning to save some money before taking them to a big hospital for a check-up.
Finally, the iron gate opened, and out came a woman slightly older than the middle-aged woman, but the two looked somewhat similar.
"Amelia." the other woman called, wearing a servant’s uniform.
"Elder sister." Amelia Foster responded, looking at her elder sister, Azalea Foster. Her elder sister had been working here for several years. She was the envy of everyone in the village. Over the years, her elder sister’s son had bought a house and gotten married in the city, all thanks to the money earned from working here, which made everyone in the village envious.
That is why, when her elder sister said they needed more people here, thinking that benefits should stay within the family, she let Amelia come over to try it out. Naturally, Amelia felt grateful in her heart.
"Who is this child..." Azalea Foster looked at the little girl Amelia was holding. She naturally recognized the little boy as her nephew, but she had never seen this little girl before. ...
"My adopted daughter." Amelia replied, "Her mother abandoned her, so I took her in to raise her." She briefly explained the situation.
"Oh, how can this be? It’s already hard enough to raise one child, let alone another. You’d better send her to the police station or an orphanage."
"Elder sister," Amelia said, "just let me raise her. You know, I’ve always wanted to have a daughter."
Azalea was taken aback; she knew that her sister had lost her 7-month-old baby due to excessive grief when her husband suddenly passed away. This was a sore spot for her sister.
"Alright." she sighed and didn’t persuade further, taking the three of them into the villa, "This is the May Family’s house, where there are many rules. You must be careful here. Some servants also bring their children, and the Mays don’t mind, but children must never set foot in the main house, although they can be around the back of the main house or in the side courtyard."
Azalea started explaining the rules of the May Family to the three of them, such as how to greet people and how to show respect. Amelia, of course, listened attentively, and the 8-year-old James was very focused, even asking questions when he didn’t understand, but the 5-year-old girl seemed unresponsive.
"This child..." Azalea frowned, sensing something amiss.
"She... had a head injury, so she’s a bit slow to react. I’ll make sure to explain the rules to her later and have her remember them." Amelia quickly said.
Azalea heard this, wanted to say something, but looking at her sister’s pleading eyes, she swallowed her words and said, "In this house, there are only two masters, the master and the young master. The master has never married, and the young master is not his son but his nephew. Still, the young master will eventually inherit the May Family. But for you to work here, the master needs to approve. So take a rest first, and later I’ll take you to meet the master. If he has no objections, you can stay."
"Do the children need to meet the master too?" Amelia was a bit worried, fearing the little girl would displease the master with her foolish appearance.
"That won’t be necessary," Azalea said, and Amelia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
