Dragon Genesis: I Can Create Dragons

Chapter 388: Mage Lavinia Dragonborn.

Chapter 388: Mage Lavinia Dragonborn.

“While everyone else was ignorant of the incoming danger, they reacted.

When fear ran through the ranks, they stepped forward…”

Morvain’s hand lowered slowly and—

“Mage Lavinia, sitting on Lord Dragon, held more than a hundred Stonefangs alone, not allowing them to move past her. Her magic covered all the land beyond the Wall, playing the biggest role in stopping the Stonefangs today.

Her vines coiled around the bulky Stonefang warriors, making it almost impossible for them to move past. The warriors that were completely encroached by those vines never participated in the battle.

For a single mage to pull all that off, it was a sight that was difficult to believe. Even when we gathered the soldiers present there to hear their testimonies, the soldiers couldn’t stop stuttering as they described it.

Even after hours had passed, no soldier could forget it. Mage Lavinia’s magic had left such a strong impact on them.”

Morvain explained.

By now, both Kael and Lavinia had walked next to her, gathering the attention of every Velmourn present here.

Morvain’s words surprised the Velmourns, especially those who did not know the details of the war.

Just hearing that a single mage stopped that many Stonefangs filled them with a strange sense of empowerment. Many children, especially the ones who attended Lavinia’s magic lectures, stared at her with intense, shining eyes.

It wasn’t difficult to see what they were thinking. Their intention of learning everything from Lavinia and becoming like her couldn’t be more obvious. They all swore in their hearts to work even harder on their magic once they returned.

Even the adults were no exception; they too wanted to work on their unstable foundation, rebuild it, and get stronger.

This was probably the day that would mark the rise in the number of active mages in the Velmourn army.

But…

That wasn’t the only effect this day would have on the Velmourns.

After all, the Matriarch wasn’t yet done.

After Lavinia, she turned towards Kael and—

“Then there is Dragon Rider Kael,

Or what the Men of the Watch call him, Dragon God Kael.”

The Matriarch chuckled lightly. She could already see the light in the soldiers’ eyes when she mentioned Kael.

“Dragon Rider Kael showed powers far beyond what any human should be capable of, something that I witnessed myself and still feel my body tremble every time I recall it.”

She spoke as she looked at her own trembling hands.

The Matriarch wasn’t lying. Kael’s transformation had a strong impact on her; the only reason she held herself together was because her people were around her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be surprised if she had found herself kneeling in front of that being she witnessed before, just like her soldiers.

Slowly, the Matriarch calmed herself and stared at Kael for a moment before she turned back to her soldiers.

“Today, Dragon Rider Kael led the remaining Flying Unit that barely had 30 men and made them face more than 70 Stonefangs that were trying to move past them and reach our granary.

And surprisingly, none of the Stonefangs, despite outnumbering our people more than two to one, were able to pass through Kael and the men under his command.

Dragon Rider Kael showed not just strength, but absolute control and incredible commanding ability.

This alone was more than enough to show just how immensely capable Dragon Rider Kael was, but…

When things got out of hand, Dragon Rider Kael showed something far beyond what any of us could have imagined.”

Morvain stared at her people with a gentle smile on her face and—

“Look at the soldiers around you, look at their trembling bodies, look at their gazes of reverence.

They do not call Dragon Rider Kael a God without reason, they have not lost their minds.

What they saw… simply changed the way they looked at the world.

I am sure most of you tried to talk to them and I am sure their words only felt like a fantasy to you, mere gibberish you couldn’t understand—

But I assure you,

Every word they said was true.”

The Velmourns trembled at those words, especially the soldiers who had constantly stood beside Kael and told everyone what they saw. With the Matriarch acknowledging them, maybe they wouldn’t be treated like fools anymore.

“I will not bore you with the same words they have been saying since afternoon. Those curious are obviously free to talk to the soldiers after this.

What I will say, however, is that Dragon Rider Kael stopped the Stonefangs alone, he created tens of flaming pillars that reached the skies, he formed a huge wall of flame between the Stonefang and the Velmourn army that was about to collide.

The might he displayed was so strong that when the Stonefang chief saw it, he realized this wasn’t a battle he could win and—

He ordered the retreat.”

The Matriarch paused for a moment, letting her people digest what she just revealed, and then—

“The Stonefang army that was twice our size, an army that could have easily crushed our people considering their unusually strong physiques, retreated when Dragon Rider Kael revealed his true might.

However…

His strength isn’t the only thing that I wanted to appreciate today.

Dragon Rider Kael isn’t just strong, he is insightful. He was the first to report the arrival of Drakthar ships. He reacted so quickly that even I didn’t believe him at first, but when the scouts from the east arrived and reported the same thing, I had no choice but to react.

And it wasn’t just the Drakthar. Dragon Rider Kael and Lady Lavinia were the first to know about the Stonefang army that marched towards our Wall.

They went to the Wall and took over the command, settling all the soldiers who would have panicked by the sudden attack if it wasn’t for him.

Dragon Rider Kael and Lady Lavinia’s actions today changed everything.”

Morvain looked at the two of them again and—

“They fought.

They led.

They decided.

And because of that, no soldier died today.

Because of that… we are all still alive.”

She let the words hang for a moment, then, a big smile appeared on her face as she walked towards the two and—

“Tonight,

We laugh,

We dance.

We rest.

And tomorrow we go back and face the winter again.”

A few of the Velmourns chuckled. Is this not what they did every day? They had already gotten used to it.

Morvain, however, wasn’t done yet—

“But tonight,”

She added,

“We also express our gratitude.”

She placed her hand on Kael and Lavinia’s shoulders and—

“I won’t give them medals.

We don’t have any.”

The Velmourns smiled. Some smiles were heavier than others; the last thing they wanted was to recall their situation. Morvain, on the other hand, took them two steps back and—

“But we will give them what we do have.”

She spoke, looking into Kael and Lavinia’s eyes and then—she placed her left fist on her chest, right above her heart, and saluted.

An action that surprised everyone, even Kael and Lavinia themselves.

This… was no different than bowing her head.

To think… the Matriarch was saluting the foreigners who came to their land two weeks ago.

None could believe it. Soon, however, loud thumps were heard as the soldiers who fought with Kael and Lavinia followed, each saluting in their direction.

Thump

After the soldiers, the one who made the move was Commander Korvath himself.

Thump Thump Thump

Seeing their commander act, the rest of the soldiers followed and after that, one by one, the elders, the children, the men, and the women, all saluted Kael and Lavinia.

Every single Velmourn present here stared at them, showing their absolute gratitude.

It was a grand sight, one that made both Kael and Lavinia tremble. The two couldn’t move; they just stood there, watching it happen. Watching all these people—broken, cold, scarred—saluting them.

It was… overwhelming.

Every being stood still, even the children, for an entire minute, until finally—

“I would also like to use this moment to correct the mistake I made before.”

The Matriarch spoke again, this time, her eyes fell on Lavinia.

“I officially introduced Dragon Rider Kael to all of you, but because of my habit to overthink everything, I made a big mistake that day.

I did not introduce Mage Lavinia to all of you and failed to show her proper respect like she deserved just because of her identity.

So I will use this moment to correct myself and officially accept Lady Lavinia into our lands as part of our family—”

Morvain spoke, she then glanced at her people and—

“People of Ashen Heights, let me officially introduce you,

The mage that protected us Velmourns from the enemies, the mage that is not just strong but is also destined to turn around the future of our Velmourn magic for the better, a mage recognized all over Nerathis for her excellence, a mage who was once called the Future of Magic by even the strongest mages of all Nerathis—”

Morvain spoke as she removed her own coat and wrapped it around Lavinia, a sign of acceptance.

“Mage Lavinia Dragonborn.”

She introduced as Lavinia’s coat flapped in the air, making her look even more stunning, a sight that made Kael’s heart skip a beat.

*Lavinia’s Picture*

As for the Velmourns…

They couldn’t believe what they just heard…

“A Dragonborn…?”
