Chapter 38: Answer Me This
Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Answer Me This
Elena had come looking for Xavier, but he wasn’t in his room. She decided to wait and sat on his bed. Her eyes drifted to his pillow. Curiosity got the better of her; she picked it up and took a sniff of his lingering scent.
Hmm... just smells like him.
She was still inhaling the warm, masculine smell when a voice came from the doorway.
"Elena, what are you doing?"
Her head snapped up. Xavier stood there watching her. She shoved the pillow back into place and jumped to her feet, soft tits shifting under her clothes.
"Nothing—nothing at all. More importantly, I found something about those hints you gave me." She pulled the diary from her waist and tapped the cover. "It was all in here. I just didn’t see it at first. I’ve figured out how this diary works. If I channel a little mana into it while focusing on exactly what I want to know, and then open it, the pages show me the information I’m looking for."
"That’s useful," Xavier said. "Can’t you just ask it where the real treasure is hidden?"
"It doesn’t work that way. I have to be extremely specific. If I only think ’hidden piece in Dawncrest’ and open the book, it shows random stuff. That’s where your clues helped. I had to focus on dawn, sunrise, reflection—those exact concepts—before anything useful showed up." She channeled mana into the diary and opened it, holding the page out for him to see.
When the celestial glow finds the keeper of time, a veiled path shall awaken where the secrets align.
"There were plenty of entries about sunrays, light, reflections, and mirrors," Elena continued, "but when I linked that train of thought specifically to Dawncrest and hidden piece, this was the line that stood out. Does it mean anything to you?"
"We’ll have to figure it out," Xavier answered.
They headed to Dawncrest together.
"What are we going to say if someone asks why we’re here?" Elena asked on the way.
"Don’t worry about it. Did you forget Melli lives in Dawncrest?" He glanced at her. "I didn’t ask your permission first, but I already told her about our little treasure hunt. Hope you’re not mad."
Elena sighed. "I doubted you could keep it from her forever. It’s fine."
She didn’t trust people easily. Xavier was still her only true friend—now lover—but he knew Melli could be trusted, and the two girls were already friends. Elena wouldn’t hold it against him.
It was late evening. Most of the Dawncrest students were gathered in the gathering lobby, playing games and talking. Xavier scanned the room for Melli the moment they stepped inside. A student approached them.
"Looking for someone?"
"Melli," Elena said.
"Oh, the slime girl? She’s never down here. Always locked up in her room."
Xavier and Elena left the lobby, climbed the stairs, and headed for Melli’s door.
"How do you know exactly where her room is?" Elena asked.
"I’ve been here before."
"For what?"
Xavier hesitated. "Enchantments. She’s a genius at them. I had some questions and she helped me." Guilt pricked at him for the half-truth, but he wasn’t ready to explain the rest yet.
Knock,knock,knock.
Melli had been reading an advanced enchantment book borrowed from the library when she heard a knock on her door. She opened the door, eyes lighting up when she saw Xavier, she held herself back from taking him in her embrace when she noticed Elena beside him. She invited them in, soft gelatinous thigh clapping into each other.
Boing boing boing
Xavier explained everything to Melli including the riddle. Melli listened thoughtfully.
"So do you have any idea?" Xavier asked.
"There’s something we can try," she said at last.
They waited until midnight, when the last students left the gathering room and returned to their own quarters to sleep. Once the lobby was empty, Melli led them to the eastern wall covered in circular rotating windows.
"Now if you look behind"
Elena turned and looked at the opposite wall. A huge clock was mounted within the wall there.
"That is..."
"The keeper of time" Xavier finished her thought.
"So, we need to align the windows so they reflect light onto the clock?" Elena asked.
Xavier quickly adjusted every window, angling them to catch the faint moonlight and focus it on the clock face. When he finished, they stepped back and waited.
Nothing happened.
"Of course nothing happens," Elena said. "We’re in Dawncrest. We need actual dawn."
"Celestial glow could technically include moonlight," Xavier said, though he already knew the riddle certainly meant sunlight. "It was worth a shot." He said jokingly.
"So, what now?" Melli asked. "Do we just wait for morning?"
With nothing better to do and no desire to risk missing sunrise, they decided to stay awake through the night. They played a few board games and talked until the conversation grew thin. Xavier used the quiet moment to bring up something that had been weighing on him.
He was sat on one of the sofas with Elena pressed against his right side and Melli against his left. Melli’s thick, slimy thighs rested heavily against him; Elena’s full, heavy tits brushed against his arm with every small movement.
"Melli, Elena... I need to tell you both something." His expression turned serious.
"What is it?" Elena asked, noticing the change.
"I don’t know how else to say this, so I’ll just say it. I’ve been sleeping with both of you."
"I knew it!" Melli remarked as if confirming her doubts.
Elena’s eyes widened. "Wait—what do you mean both of us? How is that possible?"
Polygamy was happily accepted in this world; though rare, some men got aroused to more than one woman when their triggers were met. Still, Elena had never imagined Xavier would be one of them.
He could have simply claimed that Melli triggered his arousal as well, but he chose honesty instead.
"The truth is I’m a little different from most men. The things that trigger my arousal... let’s just say that it’s a long list. I don’t get turned on by everything, but the range is wide."
He explained that he had never intended to take advantage of Elena, that he genuinely loved and cared for her, and how things had happened with Melli. Elena listened in silence, forcing herself to stay calm and reasonable. When he finished, she had only one question left.
"All right. I understand the situation if you put it like this and Melli is a friend, so I don’t mind sharing you with her. But answer me this, you said, the list wide, just how wide are we talking? is there anyone besides the two of us?"
Xavier’s throat went dry. He wondered ’should I list the names of every woman I’ve fucked?’
