Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Get Away With What?

"What the hell...?"

Xavier and Elena stared at the artifact resting inside the box. It was a simple necklace with a crescent pendant. Elena lifted it out, but she felt nothing—no magical power, no enchantment, nothing at all.

"So what kind of treasure is this?" Xavier asked.

Elena had no answer. She pulled the diary from her waist and began flipping through its pages, opening and closing the cover again and again until she finally found something useful.

"Here—finally. Look at this."

She read the riddle aloud:

"None holds the whole yet each conceals a share.

Take one from each dwelling and complete what’s hidden here."

"From everything I’ve learned about this book," Elena said, "this should be our next clue."

Xavier took the diary and read the lines again carefully.

"If ’dwelling’ means the dorms in the academy, then the necklace is incomplete. We need to find the remaining pieces in the other three dorms—one from each—to finish the pendant."

Elena nodded. "But we can’t just march into the other dorms and start searching. We have to be careful. No one can know what we’re doing."

"Agreed. At first I thought this whole treasure hunt was ridiculous, but now... even if there’s no treasure, there’s a mystery here. I want to know what happens when the pendant is complete."

They decided they would use any excuse they could find to enter the other dorms and search for the missing pieces. Xavier tried to hand the necklace to Elena, but she pushed it back toward him.

"Just wear it under your clothes. That’s the safest way to keep it hidden."

Xavier slipped the chain around his neck and tucked the crescent beneath his shirt. They left the fifth floor and returned to their rooms. Elena went back to studying the diary; Xavier went to bed.

The next morning Xavier attended Professor Draven’s lecture.

"All right," Draven called out. "I want you to summon your magical beasts’ power without actually summoning the beasts themselves. Focus on the summoning sigil and ask only to borrow their strength."

The students obeyed. One by one they began to glow with different abilities—some floating a few centimeters off the ground, others sharpening their vision. Xavier’s body crackled with lightning. His senses sharpened dramatically, and when he tested a single step he felt a sudden, explosive increase in speed.

"Wow... that’s awesome," he muttered.

"Now for a little game," Draven continued. "I’ve hidden several tokens throughout the southwestern forest. Using your new abilities, anyone who returns with at least one token before the lecture ends will receive extra credits."

Students poured out of the classroom and raced toward the forest. Xavier shot past all of them, his lightning-enhanced speed carrying him to the tree line first. The southwestern forest was a dense, self-contained ecosystem nearly five kilometers across. He moved quickly between the trees, scanning for the tokens.

A simple circular disk hanging from a low branch caught his eye. He accelerated toward it—

—and something slammed into him from the right.

Both of them tumbled sideways. Xavier’s back scraped across the dirt. When the world stopped spinning, a girl was straddling his chest: violet hair, sharp violet eyes, a twitching cat tail, and a pair of fluffy cat ears, her soft thighs clamping tight around him.

"What the hell? Where did you come from? Nyan!"

"I was here first," Xavier said. "Who are you?"

"Felicia Velaria. And I was here first. That token is mine."

She sprang up and launched herself toward the hanging disk in a pure cat-like leap. Xavier’s hand shot out and caught her tail.

"That’s sensitive, nyan!" Felicia yelped. She spun around, claws flashing toward his face. With his heightened senses Xavier dodged easily and released her tail.

She twisted free and bolted for the token. Xavier rose in a crackle of lightning, closed the distance in a single burst, seized both of her wrists, and pinned her hard against a nearby tree, his body pressed close.

"Where do you think you’re going?" he asked, leaning in close.

Felicia stuck her tongue out in open defiance. "I’ve dealt with bullies like you my whole life."

Her knee snapped upward, aimed straight between his legs. The impact landed with brutal accuracy right on his cock and balls. Xavier grunted in pain; his grip loosened. Felicia slipped free on silent tiptoes, snatched the token, and vanished into the trees.

Xavier pressed a hand to his crotch, waiting for the sharp ache to fade. What a woman, he thought.

He continued searching and soon found a second token. He returned to Professor Draven, handed it over, had his name marked, and joined the small group of students who had already succeeded. His eyes found Felicia almost immediately. She locked gazes with him, then pulled a childish taunt—tugging one eyelid down and sticking her tongue out again.

Xavier walked toward her.

A sharp clap from Draven interrupted him. The professor just dismissed the students who had already submitted tokens. By the time Xavier looked back, Felicia was gone.

He refused to let her escape so easily. Lightning crackled over his skin once more, sharpening his senses. He locked onto the faint scent she had left on him during their earlier collision and followed it through the campus, into the main building, and down several hallways until he finally cornered her.

"You—stop right there!"

Felicia turned.

Xavier closed the remaining distance. "Do you think you can just get away with that?"

"Get away with what? Nyan" she asked, blinking innocently.

"Get away with kicking me in my balls?" Xavier said.

"Oh, and why can’t I get away with that? Who’s going to stop me? Nyan.."

"Do you even know who I am?" Xavier asked.

"Just a spoiled brat who’s also a bully, Nyan" she replied.

"I’m Xavier Drakenfell. Rank 2 of the freshmen."

Felicia’s eyes widened in shock. Kicking an ordinary commoner between the legs was one thing. Kicking the heir of the Drakenfell family—and potentially damaging his ability to continue the bloodline—was something else entirely. The family would have demanded her head.

"I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! Nyan" she blurted, bowing low. The motion stretched her tight shirt across her full, heavy tits; her deep cleavage came into clear view, the soft, jiggling mounds of her breasts bouncing slightly.

The sight of those plump tits alone was almost enough for Xavier to forgive her on the spot.

Almost.

He was not finished with her yet.
