Chapter 90: A Good Match
Chapter 90: Chapter 90: A Good Match
Zhao Lan looked at her daughter, a faint smile on her lips. "You and Hu Feng really seem to get along."
Bai Zhi laughed. "Mother, what are you thinking? Hu Feng and I are just helping each other out for our own reasons. There’s nothing going on between us, so please don’t let your imagination run wild."
’A man like Hu Feng—mysterious, handsome, and steady—exudes an attractive charm from head to toe. What girl wouldn’t like a man like that?’
’But a man like that is also incredibly dangerous.’
’His past is a complete mystery. He seems harmless now, but if he ever regains his memories, everything will change. And that’s a kind of change not every woman can handle.’
’He’s definitely no ordinary person. He’s literate and well-read, he knows martial arts, and he has an extraordinary air about him. Plus, his body is covered in scars from blades, clearly not from a single incident, but accumulated over many years.’
’How could an ordinary person have so many scars from blades? As a simple village girl, it’s best for me to not get involved with a man like that.’
Zhao Lan smiled. "I’m not letting my imagination run wild. I’m afraid the rumors are already spreading through the village, saying you’re Hu Feng’s little wife."
Bai Zhi gave a dry laugh and waved her hand dismissively. "Those people have too much time on their hands, making things up out of thin air. Why should we pay them any mind? Let’s just live our own lives and walk our own path."
Zhao Lan wanted to say more, but Bai Zhi cut her off. "Alright, Mother, we should get started on dinner. It’s getting late."
Seeing that her daughter didn’t want to discuss the topic, Zhao Lan fell silent. In her heart, she was quite fond of that young man, Hu Feng. He was mature and steady, a man of few words, strong, and had no bad habits. If Zhi’er could really marry Hu Feng, it would be a good match.

The Bai family was sighing and groaning as they cleaned up the house. Looking at the room full of things smashed to bits, Old Mrs. Bai and Liu were so furious they cried while cursing. This was all money! Most of it was stuff they had to spend money to buy. To replace it all, the little bit of money she had painstakingly saved over the years would probably be wiped out.
Bai Dabao was in a corner cleaning up a shelf that had been smashed to pieces. He had just picked up two of its legs when a Jade Pendant, translucent white with a splash of emerald green, fell out of a crack in one of them.
"Huh? What’s this?" Bai Dabao had a loud voice. He quickly dropped the shelf legs in his hands and picked up the Jade Pendant from the floor.
Hearing the commotion, Old Mrs. Bai and Liu rushed to his side.
Liu was sharp-eyed. She spotted the Jade Pendant at once, and her eyes went wide. Although she didn’t own any valuable jewelry herself, she could still tell good quality Jade from bad.
The piece of Jade in Bai Dabao’s hand was clearly a fine item. Its luster was smooth and moist. A laughing Buddha was carved into the Jade; the Buddha’s belly was a brilliant emerald green, while the rest was a translucent white. The most exquisite detail was one of the Jade Buddha’s hands. The right hand was posed to the side in a delicate gesture, with the tips of the thumb and index finger touching. And the very tips of those two fingers were crimson red, as if a drop of fresh blood had been absorbed into them, making it exceptionally unique.
Liu snatched it from Da Bao’s hand. "This was part of my dowry! How did you get it?" Liu frantically tried to signal Bai Dabao with her eyes.
Bai Dabao’s eyes were glued to the Jade, so he didn’t see Liu’s signal at all.
But what kind of person was Old Mrs. Bai? Having lived to her age, what kind of signal hadn’t she seen before? How could she possibly be fooled by Liu?
