Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich
Chapter 86: Family Division
Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Family Division
What a pity there was no medicine for regret in this world.
The village chief added, "You have only yourselves to blame for this mess. Your hearts are too cruel, your methods too vicious. You’ve ruined the lives of Zhao Lan and Bai Zhi. How are this mother and daughter supposed to survive in the future?"
Old Mrs. Bai’s eyes darted around before she glared at Doctor Lu. "I’m telling you, Doctor Lu, whether someone’s sick or not, whether it’s serious or minor—it’s all based on your word. Don’t tell me you conspired with them to spout these lies and deceive us?"
Doctor Lu snorted. "If you don’t believe me, you’re more than welcome to take this mother and daughter to town right now. Find the best doctor there and see if I, Lu Changchun, have told a single lie."
Given how miserly Old Mrs. Bai was, there was no way she would take Bai Zhi and Zhao Lan to town to see a doctor. Absolutely impossible.
Bai Zhi quickly fanned the flames. "Grandmother, why don’t you be so kind as to take Mother and me to town to find another doctor? Who knows, maybe our injuries can still be healed?"
Old Mrs. Bai glared at her. "Don’t you call me ’Grandmother.’ I won’t have it. A granddaughter like you is more than the Bai Family can handle."
This was exactly what Bai Zhi had been waiting for. Her expression instantly turned cold. "Grandmother, what do you mean by that? Do you want to divide the family?"
Old Mrs. Bai snorted. "Divide the family? What in this household belongs to you? On what grounds should I split it with you? Who do you think you are? You dare bring up dividing the family to me?"
The village chief frowned. "That’s not entirely right. Zhao Lan is Sanzhu’s wife, and Sanzhu is a son of the Bai Family. By all rights, the Bai Family’s property includes Sanzhu’s share. So how can you say Zhao Lan and Zhi aren’t entitled to any of it?"
By now, Old Mrs. Bai found everyone irritating, even viewing the village chief as a thorn in her side. "This is a private matter for the Bai Family. We don’t need outsiders meddling. I’m the one in charge of this family now, and I’ll be the one to decide how things are split."
Bai Zhi turned to the village chief. "Uncle Village Chief, it seems my mother and I can’t stay here any longer. Since Grandmother is unwilling to give us a share of the family property, we won’t force the issue. Please, could you help us draft a separation agreement? In the future, for better or for worse, my mother and I will have nothing more to do with the Bai Family."
This was exactly what Old Mrs. Bai wanted. It would save her the trouble of those two bitches coming back shamelessly, begging for food when they couldn’t survive on their own.
The village chief looked at Old Mrs. Bai. "Is this settled, then?"
Old Mrs. Bai nodded. "Settled. Let’s do it now. I don’t want to see them for another second. Tell them to get the hell out and never show their faces to me again."
’As if anyone actually wanted to stay here,’ Bai Zhi sneered inwardly. ’In the future, even if you Bai family members kneel before me and beg for a scrap of food, I won’t give you so much as a second glance.’
The village chief borrowed an ink brush and paper from Doctor Lu and quickly wrote up the agreement. He made three copies: one for Old Mrs. Bai, one for Bai Zhi, and one for himself to keep as evidence in case of any future disputes.
Old Mrs. Bai had Bai Xiaofeng read her copy, but Bai Zhi held her own and read it carefully, word by word.
Liu screeched, "Well, look at that—she can read? Who are you putting on an act for? A wretched girl like you, daring to put on airs in front of our Xiao Feng. Aren’t you afraid of making a complete fool of yourself?"
Bai Zhi finished reading her copy of the agreement, then lifted her gaze to sweep over Liu. In a voice dripping with sarcasm, she said, "I wonder about a certain someone’s son. He may be studying at the academy, but his scores are the worst in every single exam. And someone like that still dreams of becoming a high official? Now that’s what I call a joke! The way I see it, he’ll be lucky to even pass the examination to become a Scholar."
