Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich
Chapter 73: Dawn
Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Dawn
Hu Feng said, "Time isn’t an issue. It’s already been three years. I don’t mind waiting another three." ’As long as he could recover his memories and find his past, he was willing to wait even longer.’
Bai Zhi waved her hand. "Three years won’t be necessary. I’m covered in injuries myself right now, and I don’t have the strength. Performing acupuncture would be too much for me. Once my injuries heal in a while and my stamina recovers, we can begin the treatment. As for how long it will take to recover, that depends on how effective the treatment is. It’s hard to say for now, but it definitely won’t take as long as three years."
Hu Feng nodded. "Alright. If there’s anything you need me to do, just ask."
Bai Zhi smiled. "Of course, there’s something I need you to do. To find a good remedy for blood stasis, I’m afraid we’ll have to go to Luoying Mountain. I’d never dare go to a place like that without you."
"No problem. Just tell me when you want to go." His expression was impassive, but a brilliant light flickered in his handsome eyes, as if a ray of dawn had suddenly broken through a path once shrouded in endless darkness.
She looked up at him, her expression serious. "Hu Feng, thank you for yesterday." ’No matter his reason for helping her, she was grateful. At her most difficult moment, he was the only one who stood up, shielding her like a great mountain.’
Hu Feng gave her a cool glance, then stepped past her. His indifferent voice sounded from above her head. "You don’t have to thank me. I was just paying you in advance. Remember your promise." His figure disappeared into the kitchen, heading off to who knows where.
Meanwhile, after Liu went to Baiyang Village, she quickly found a family willing to pay twenty taels of silver to marry Bai Zhi.
The man was a widower known as Yang Sigeng. He was in his early forties, and while not particularly old, for Bai Zhi he was old enough to be her father.
Moreover, this man had already married three times. His three wives had given him three daughters, and he had beaten each one to death during her postpartum confinement period.
He had sold two of the three daughters and strangled one to death.
He was the poster child for violent men in Baiyang Village.
There were clearly better options, yet Liu had deliberately chosen Yang Sigeng. Her viciousness was undeniable.
This Yang Sigeng was notoriously cruel and obsessed with having a son. Any woman who married him and failed to produce one would face unimaginable misfortune and certain death.
Liu returned home, gleefully clutching the ten taels of silver she received as a deposit. The moment she stepped inside, she bolted the main door from within, afraid that blasted girl Bai Zhi would suddenly return and overhear them.
Old Mrs. Bai stared at the ten taels of gleaming silver, grinning from ear to ear. She weighed it in her hands over and over, passing it from left to right, looking as if she were about to lick each piece.
"Mother, this is just the deposit. I made a deal with him. Once we deliver her, he’ll give us another ten taels of silver. And if we skip the banquet, bridal sedan, and all the formal betrothal rites, he’ll give us an extra two taels of silver."
The moment Old Mrs. Bai heard this, she immediately said, "Then let’s skip them! That blasted girl is lucky anyone wants her at all. What does she need with formal betrothal rites, a banquet, or a bridal sedan? Getting an extra two taels of silver is a much better deal."
Liu nodded hurriedly, her eyes narrowing into thin slits as she smiled. "That’s what I was thinking too."
Old Mrs. Bai chuckled for a moment, then suddenly asked Liu, "Did you set a date to send her over?"
Liu said, "Yes, yes! He said the sooner, the better. He’s coming to pick her up in three days."
Old Mrs. Bai nodded. "Three days should be about right. By then, the bruises on her face should have faded a bit, so she won’t look too unsightly."
