Divine Level Witch Doctor
Chapter 608 - 608: So Awkward
Everyone in the internet cafe had their attention drawn to Du Zheng. A few people sitting near him were so scared they shot to their feet, either asking the owner to move them to a seat further away or just logging off and leaving to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
The owner gritted his teeth in frustration but didn't go over to stop Du Zheng again.
He had been watching Du Zheng the whole time, seeing the man laugh one moment and rage the next, alternate between tense and agitated. His behavior was utterly bizarre; he didn't seem like a normal person at all.
'This guy... could he be a lunatic?' the internet cafe owner wondered.
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became that Du Zheng was a lunatic.
So he quickly picked up his phone and dialed the police. Not daring to speak too loudly for fear that Du Zheng might hear, he ducked behind the counter and whispered, "I want to report something. There's a lunatic in my internet cafe, and he's going berserk. I'm afraid he's going to hurt my customers. Please, get here quick and take him to a mental hospital..."
The police were quick to arrive, reaching the internet cafe just a few minutes after receiving the call.
At that moment, Du Zheng still hadn't finished venting; he was still cursing up a storm while pounding on the computer desk.
He'd originally thought he was going to deal a major blow to Zhao Yuan today, but he never imagined he would be the one getting dealt the blow. The reversal and the shock were too much to vent in just a short while.
Lost in his rampage, Du Zheng didn't notice the police arrive.
The owner, however, rushed over to greet them. Pointing at Du Zheng, he said, "That's the guy. Look at him! If that's not a lunatic, I don't know what is."
Several customers who had been scared into logging off by Du Zheng also chimed in, adding fuel to the fire with their own accounts of his bizarre behavior. Between what they saw with their own eyes and what they heard, the police also concluded that there was definitely something wrong with Du Zheng.
The only thing that allowed everyone to breathe a sigh of relief was that Du Zheng wasn't carrying a weapon.
Three police officers snuck up quietly behind Du Zheng, then swarmed and subdued him.
"What are you doing? What are you doing?!"
Du Zheng was stunned. At first, he thought he was being kidnapped by criminals, but when he twisted his head and saw it was police officers, not criminals, holding him, he was even more bewildered.
"Why are you arresting me? I'm a good person!"
An officer said, "We never said you were a bad person. And we aren't arresting you; we're just taking you to the hospital."
Du Zheng cried out in a panic, "The hospital? For what? I'm not sick! I'm not going!"
The owner then provided the perfect assist. "I've seen it on TV," he said. "When mental patients are having an episode, they all say they aren't sick and refuse to go to the hospital. He's acting exactly like that!"
Only then did it dawn on Du Zheng that these people thought he was a mental patient and were about to drag him off to the hospital for treatment.
He grew even more frantic, struggling desperately as he cursed, "Fuck, who are you calling a mental patient? You're the fucking mental patient! I'm perfectly sane! I'm not going to the hospital! I don't want electroshock therapy!"
"He even knows about electroshock therapy. He must have had treatment before."
"Sounds like his condition is pretty severe. They wouldn't use electroshock otherwise!"
"If he's sick, he should just stay home or in the hospital. What's he doing running around out here? What if he hurts someone? His family is so irresponsible!"
The crowd murmured among themselves, utterly unconvinced that Du Zheng was normal.
His earlier outburst had been simply too terrifying, convincing everyone that there was something wrong with him mentally.
Du Zheng was quickly taken away.
The poor bastard's luck had hit rock bottom today.
He thought he'd found some dirt on Zhao Yuan and was going to expose his 'facade of hypocrisy,' but instead he got flamed by everyone on the school forums and had his account banned. He tried to vent a little of his frustration, only to be mistaken for a mental patient and carted off to the hospital...
Who knew when he'd be able to prove he was sane and finally get out of the hospital.
And as for Zhao Yuan, the target of this slander, he was completely oblivious to the whole affair.
The next day, Zhao Yuan woke up bright and early. After a morning session practicing the Jingtun Technique, he had breakfast at his hotel. His plan was to read the medical texts on his Information Leaf for a while, then head to a real estate agency at ten, but his phone rang just then.
The caller was none other than Lin Xue.
Zhao Yuan answered the call and, before the other person could speak, cooed in a sickeningly sweet voice, "Darling, miss your husband already?"
The other end of the line went silent for a moment before an elderly man's voice came through. "Ahem, Zhao Yuan, it's your Grandpa Lin."
"Huh?" Zhao Yuan was instantly mortified. He never would have imagined that the person calling from Lin Xue's phone would be her grandfather, Lin Liangzhe.
Remembering how he'd just called Lin Liangzhe "darling," Zhao Yuan was overcome with embarrassment. He felt so ashamed he wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole.
After managing to suppress his mortification, Zhao Yuan gave a dry laugh and quickly changed the subject. "Happy New Year, Grandpa Lin! Is there something I can do for you?"
Lin Liangzhe glanced at Lin Xue, who was standing beside him. The young woman had also heard Zhao Yuan's greeting. Even though her relationship with Zhao Yuan was official and her family knew about it, the experience still left her feeling a little shy and flustered.
Lin Liangzhe chuckled and said, "Didn't you say you would come visit after the New Year? I was just calling to ask when you might be coming over."
"I can come over today," Zhao Yuan said.
"Today? You're in Rongcheng City?" Lin Liangzhe asked. He knew Zhao Yuan's hometown was a long way from Rongcheng City; if he were to set out on the spot, he wouldn't arrive until evening.
Zhao Yuan replied, "Yes, I had some business in Jiangyang a couple of days ago and just got back to Rongcheng City yesterday."
Lin Liangzhe said, "I see. In that case, yes, please come over today. As it happens, I have a favor to ask of you."
Zhao Yuan quickly replied, "Grandpa Lin, please don't say 'ask a favor.' If there's anything you need me to do, you just have to say the word!"
This attitude pleased Lin Liangzhe greatly. He chuckled and said, "Alright then. I'll give you your 'orders' after you arrive."
Naturally, Zhao Yuan agreed immediately.
"Alright, I won't keep you two lovebirds from talking. Xiaoxue, here, take your phone back."
He returned the phone to Lin Xue and turned to walk into the study.
"You got back to Rongcheng City yesterday? Why didn't you call me?" Lin Xue asked.
Zhao Yuan stuck out his tongue. 'Good thing I didn't say I got back the day before yesterday,' he thought. 'That would have been hard to explain.'
He immediately apologized. "I meant to call, but I got caught up with something right after I got back to Rongcheng City."
Lin Xue wasn't trying to blame him, but asked curiously, "Busy with what?"
A flash of inspiration struck Zhao Yuan. "Are you free right now?" he said. "I'll take you somewhere, and then you'll see what I've been busy with."
