Chapter 2715 - 2716: Changes on the Frontline
Although this grassland is somewhat strange, Feng Yuan and the others didn’t encounter anything special while picnicking here. In fact, Feng Yuan even specifically returned to Li Mountain Village to borrow a set of camping equipment.
Feng Yuan didn’t understand why Li Mountain Village had such things, but it was clear that the camping equipment had been used many times and wasn’t prepared just for them.
But that’s nothing; if they had prepared camping equipment specifically, Feng Yuan would have suspected their motives.
The winter sun in the Tea Wood Town area doesn’t scorch but only warms you. After playing with Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound on the lawn, Feng Yuan fell asleep on the grass until he was woken up by Veronia at sunset.
"Are you planning to have dinner back at the cafeteria, or here?"
Veronia looked at the sleepy Feng Yuan and asked. Rubbing his eyes, Feng Yuan yawned and said:
"Dinner?"
Noticing it was late, Feng Yuan was slightly stunned and said:
"It’s already this time? Hmm, my original plan was to enjoy dinner here. Xiao Ji, are you hungry?"
Xiao Ji shook its head at Feng Yuan, having already guessed what Feng Yuan wanted to do. Or rather, every time something like this happens, Xiao Ji becomes particularly alert.
"Alright, in that case, let’s prepare dinner here."
Seeing the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound also shake its head, Feng Yuan smiled and said. As for Veronia and Tamur? If they were truly hungry, they would say so, or they could go to the cafeteria themselves.
Due to Feng Yuan leisurely preparing dinner, it wasn’t until Xiao Ji’s stomach growled that the aroma of food spread.
By now, the sun had set, and the stars were twinkling in the sky, making for a beautiful night. Veronia guessed why Feng Yuan was in such a good mood.
This was because in the afternoon, reports from the front lines had come back, and the United Army had achieved another major victory. Although the decisive battle was far from over, the reports were already using terms like "our side has a significant advantage."
Perhaps, Little Crocodile and the others were really planning on ending the battle quickly.
Veronia thought to herself, though it felt somewhat unbelievable, the latest war reports on the United Army’s progress exceeded Veronia’s expectations. Perhaps... Feng Yuan was really right.
What they didn’t know was that even Agunas and the others were a bit baffled because the United Army’s plan was more about troop training than efficient advancements, as Veronia thought.
Even if sacrifices were inevitable, everyone understood that they couldn’t solely rely on Divine Beasts to solve problems, especially since the human response to this was stronger than that of the Divine Beasts.
Over-reliance on Divine Beasts, while currently providing ease and minimizing sacrifices, could result in the Divine Beasts becoming akin to a supreme ruler, even if that wasn’t their intention.
This was different from the previous relationship between humans and Divine Beasts. Before this war broke out, though Divine Beasts were involved in inter-nation wars, they were merely external support and didn’t influence human actions directly.
With the formation and continuous combat of the United Army, the soldiers now are gradually accustomed to consulting Divine Beasts on matters like attack direction.
To them, this isn’t entirely beneficial. Both they and Agunas were very clear that sometimes it’s not about what they want to do, but that others might leverage this for personal gain.
Therefore, after both parties discussed, it was decided to train troops during the decisive battle and gradually reduce the Divine Beasts’ presence in the United Army’s main forces.
This didn’t deviate much from their initial plan, as Agunas and the others never expected to swiftly conquer the Imperial Timeline with the United Army.
Their objective was solely to move the front lines inside the Imperial Timeline to prevent those guys from causing trouble in the Main World.
Merely occupying a large portion of the continent within the Imperial Timeline would ensure that those people had no interest in creating chaos in the Main World.
Especially now that the Temple has appeared, significantly diminishing its timeline-jumping capabilities.
However, Agunas and the others didn’t anticipate that in this major battle, the Eastern Alliance Empire’s army would be much weaker than expected, which wasn’t normal!
Agunas and the others were very aware that their estimation of strength was based on the Imperial People’s previous performance in battles, and there shouldn’t be such a vast discrepancy.
Either they’ve become weak in continuous battles, or they have some plot.
Between the two, Agunas and the others suspected the latter. The reason is simple: Agunas and the others could estimate the Eastern Alliance Empire’s general strength based on world power.
This was something the Imperial People didn’t anticipate. Calculating Agunas discovered that the Eastern Alliance Empire’s strength shouldn’t match their performance in the decisive battle.
But hiding their strength at this point? That’s impossible. This is a decisive battle led by Agunas, and unless they violently broke through it, they had to follow Agunas’s plan.
Otherwise, once the continent belonging to the Eastern Alliance Empire was conquered by the United Army, they would become rootless and misguided, making any hidden strength meaningless.
Even Agunas and the others couldn’t understand the opponent’s schemes, but they would certainly proceed with caution, even slowing their offensive pace slightly.
Of course, to avoid the opponent’s tactics to slow down their offense, the United Army only adopted a slightly more stable approach without greatly reducing the overall advancement pace.
Since the reports didn’t mention these issues, Veronia didn’t understand the United Army’s situation, only being puzzled as to why Little Crocodile and the others chose to swiftly take over East Continent Mainland.
"Have you already planned where to visit after winning the decisive battle?"
When Feng Yuan was done with dinner, Veronia suddenly spoke, looking at Veronia in surprise, Feng Yuan said jokingly:
"How can I plan for that now? We don’t even know how they’ll celebrate their victory, and... I feel like their advancement speed seems off."
Even though Veronia had lived through the constant turmoil of the Mythical Era, it hadn’t seen as many battles as Feng Yuan. The United Army’s rapid advancement didn’t match Feng Yuan’s expectations.
"Is there a problem?"
Veronia looked at Feng Yuan. It didn’t doubt Feng Yuan’s words, just curious about the basis for Feng Yuan’s judgment.
"It’s unclear. I can only say their advancement speed is off. Whether the Imperial People are plotting something isn’t known, but... it’s not all bad."
Feng Yuan smiled and didn’t clarify further because it was just his feeling without any evidence to support it.
"Enough about this. Later, I want to let off some fireworks. Do you want to consider making some fireworks yourself?"
"Fireworks?"
Veronia looked at Feng Yuan in curiosity. Feng Yuan nodded and said:
"Mm, when I borrowed the camping equipment, I saw materials for making fireworks, so I bought them too."
"It’s surprising that Li Mountain Village has materials to make fireworks."
Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s explanation, Veronia found it odd. Despite Li Mountain Village’s wooden structures, which were prone to fire, and the archive materials inside, open flames weren’t prohibited, but strictly controlled nonetheless.
In such a setting, it’s really unexpected to find materials for making fireworks in the cafeteria.
"It’s not that surprising. The Beastmasters living here long-term can’t live like Ascetic Cultivators, can they? They’re not Ascetic Cultivators."
As Feng Yuan dished out the food for Xiao Ji and the others, he spoke. Though special, the Beastmasters stationed at Li Mountain Village don’t easily leave.
But they’re not Ascetic Cultivators; they’re here to safeguard the archive materials in Li Mountain Village. Having fireworks materials isn’t strange, even if there were something else, Feng Yuan would consider it normal.
"You’re right, but they’re rather bold, aren’t they?"
Veronia chuckled and said. Although with Spirit Beasts around, if the fireworks materials weren’t properly stored, Li Mountain Village might very well be blown to the sky.
"Hmm, when you say it like that, it’s true. Storing those materials in the cafeteria is pretty bold indeed."
Startled, Feng Yuan found it amusing. Even with preventive measures, it’s indeed audacious. Should anything happen, Feng Yuan believed it wouldn’t be a small matter.
