Divine Beast Creator

Chapter 2694 - 2695: Unexpected Incident

  • Next Chapter

Suddenly questioned by Veronia about ancestor spirits, Long Boduo was still a bit confused. After the other party explained clearly, Long Boduo emphatically said it was definitely not a special spiritual body.

Although Long Boduo doesn’t deal with this kind of stuff, as a guide in the Netherworld, Long Boduo is familiar with all types of spiritual bodies. Ancestor spirits truly don’t exist, at least not within the Netherworld’s sequence.

Whether there’s a type of spiritual body beyond the Netherworld, Long Boduo isn’t sure. After all, the Netherworld itself is the place that manages and accommodates all spiritual bodies. But it’s not absolute; under certain special circumstances, spiritual bodies might not be governed by the Netherworld.

Regarding this, Long Boduo can only suggest they investigate on their own, as the Divine Beasts of the Netherworld currently don’t have time to help Feng Yuan with such trivial matters.

Having obtained the answer from Veronia, Feng Yuan thought for a moment and said,

"Then it must be the Phantom of a Spirit Beast, although deliberately made to look like an ancestral apparition, which is indeed quite special."

With a chuckle, Feng Yuan glanced at the nearly finished file, hesitated for a moment, casually placed a bookmark on the page, closed the file, and said,

"Forget it, let’s eat first; we can continue this afternoon."

Not thinking about it any further, Feng Yuan only regarded it as an amusing odd tale he came across. After all, such things appear frequently throughout history, mostly proven to be related to spirit beasts, with the rest tied to spirit materials, while truly wondrous things are almost nonexistent.

Using the Beast Tamer contract to summon the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound for lunch, Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji left the archive room. Feng Yuan hadn’t expected that odd tale to be more than just that.

The dining place in Li Mountain Village is a communal canteen, unlike those at tourist spots with menus for ordering at any time. Here, the canteen prepares meals and places them out for self-service.

Feng Yuan wasn’t bothered by this, as it reminded him of the school canteen, and the food here tasted quite good.

However, until Feng Yuan finished plating his meal, he didn’t see the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound arrive, which puzzled him. Although that fellow isn’t greedy for food, it wouldn’t miss a meal, so what was it this time?

It couldn’t have gotten lost, could it? It’s nearly impossible to get lost here, and as for whether it wandered too far and couldn’t return in time, Feng Yuan sensed the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound was still within Li Mountain Village but had been stationary for some reason.

After eating for a while and still seeing no movement from the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, Feng Yuan furrowed his brow, put down his chopsticks, and said,

"I’ll go find the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound. Veronia, would you mind watching my things for me?"

Watching Feng Yuan rise to leave, Xiao Ji hurriedly abandoned his food and ran after him. Seeing Feng Yuan depart swiftly, Veronia looked towards Tamur with some confusion and asked,

"What happened?"

With a gentle sway, Tamur replied,

"Not sure."

The premonition showed no signs, so Tamur was unsure about the situation. However, since Feng Yuan didn’t call them, it likely wasn’t a big issue, possibly just tied to the prolonged absence of the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound?

Besides, what could have possibly kept the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound from arriving? Tamur didn’t think the Fire Wolf would be mischievous enough to forget the time, especially since Feng Yuan could use the Beast Tamer contract to notify it to come.

By now, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound had yet to appear. Could something have happened to it? However, Feng Yuan didn’t beckon them to follow, suggesting it wasn’t serious.

The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s location wasn’t far from the canteen. To prevent a fire that could ignite the village, the dining facility was actually outside the village, near the outer side of where Beastmasters reside, where there’s a modified artificial cave.

The entrance to the Beastmaster residential area was relatively small, as it wasn’t the main entrance. Back in ancient times, it was essential to prevent attacks, so the additional entrances, apart from the main one, weren’t particularly large.

Xiao Ji stuck close to Feng Yuan, fearing they’d get separated amid the sporadic crowd. Feeling nervous, the road suddenly widened, and Xiao Ji scurried over to stick tightly beside Feng Yuan.

"Strange, what’s the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound up to?"

Feng Yuan hadn’t noticed Xiao Ji’s anxiety. Even as he got closer to the Fire Wolf, it remained in place, seemingly idle.

Soon, Feng Yuan arrived at where the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound was located. Seeing the empty corridor, Feng Yuan frowned, glanced around, and said,

"Xiao Ji, display the Nether Soil Domain, then awaken your domain and open Netherworld Vision."

Right next to Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji curiously glanced at him, hesitated for a moment, and finally gave a long cry, unfolding the Nether Soil Domain. Unlike Qi Chen’s Hao Chun Bird, Xiao Ji could perform Domain Awakening, albeit it took effort.

As the ethereal Netherworld plants became solid, Xiao Ji’s wings swept, revealing an emerald green eye pattern above his head, continuously flashing.

Netherworld Vision is a common auxiliary Ultimate Move for both the Death Series and Ghost Series. Its effect is straightforward: it grants true visuals and the ability to see through all non-Rule Level concealment effects and hidden spaces within a Netherworld-related setting.

This effect is automatically shared among all allies within a Netherworld setting, which is why Feng Yuan directly had Xiao Ji use this Ultimate Move.

As expected by Feng Yuan, under the true visuals, he could see the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound frantically running within a hidden space. Since the Fire Wolf was also an ally, Netherworld Vision was effective on it too.

Initially, Feng Yuan had Xiao Ji perform Domain Awakening to prevent Netherworld Vision from failing under certain special conditions. Unexpectedly, Domain Awakening brought additional effects to Netherworld Vision.

The crying Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, upon seeing the sudden appearance of Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji, ran over barking. The special space originally trapping it couldn’t hold the Fire Wolf under the enhanced Netherworld Vision, allowing it to escape.

Watching the Fire Wolf leap before him, Feng Yuan amusingly patted its head and said,

"What did you do to get caught like this?"

Feng Yuan had recognized the special space: the Illusion Space of a Psychokinesis Series Spirit Beast—a powerful control Ultimate Move of the series. However, when used on opponents of the same level, the effect isn’t particularly pronounced.

The Illusion Space’s characteristics are apparent, allowing beasts struck by it to forcibly break free using their own power.

Dealing with weaker targets, however, the Illusion Space is quite effective. Unable to brute force through, most spirit beasts, apart from some unique ones, can’t initiate an interior escape.

Of course, this restriction is relative, as Illusion Space itself isn’t a genuine Subspace, meaning Xiao Ji’s enhanced Netherworld Vision could break its constraints.

That’s why Feng Yuan deemed that the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound must have done something to end up trapped, as the skill is usually mastered by Psychic Series beasts acting as guards.

Other spirit beasts rarely learn this skill, as it’s not highly useful in combat, only imprisoning the foe when power disparity is significant. Otherwise, if capable of overpowering, why not suppress the enemy directly?

In the absence of overwhelming power, Illusion Space’s effectiveness is quite limited, barely able to trap the enemy.

It’s only learned and mastered by beasts serving as guards, knowing that such skills can effectively isolate a battlefield and prevent harm to those they protect.

Guardians at Li Mountain Village certainly wouldn’t tease the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound for amusement.

Gazing at Feng Yuan, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound whimpered, trying to act cute in hopes of escaping trouble. But Feng Yuan wasn’t swayed, tugging its ear and chiding,

"Don’t think your innocent act will get you out of this. If you really messed up, apologize immediately and find a way to fix it; dragging it out may turn into a big trouble."

Feng Yuan wasn’t afraid of Li Mountain Village, as he was there to research and enjoy himself—not to cause destruction and threaten others with violence. He wasn’t a villain.

Just as the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound contemplated a retort, the Telekinesis Child drifted from the corner. Xiao Ji’s Netherworld Vision left it unable to maintain concealment despite architectural cover, as its method of hiding scent had failed.

Gesturing, the Telekinesis Child motioned Feng Yuan to follow it. Glancing at the tail-tucking, ear-drooping Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, Feng Yuan helplessly remarked,

"Come on, let’s see what trouble you’ve caused, and hopefully there’s a fix; otherwise..."

Although he said that, Feng Yuan didn’t actually consider an irreparable situation. The Fire Wolfhound wasn’t a malicious entity; at worst, it merely caused some minor mischief. Plus, if needed, Feng Yuan could ask Eclipse for help, utilizing world backup records for a do-over.
