"An invitation from Cha Mu Town?"

Blinking, Feng Yuan really didn’t know what was going on. Veronia looked at Feng Yuan strangely and said,

"You don’t know? I heard from Meng Binglan that Maomu City plans to invite a group to Cha Mu Town for relaxation."

"Invite people to Cha Mu Town for leisure? I’ve never heard of that, but I don’t think they’ll invite me, right?"

Though that’s what he said, Feng Yuan understood deep down that the invitation definitely included him. He even suspected that they were doing it specifically because of him, since Maomu City had no reason to do this under current circumstances for any reason.

Even if he didn’t know who the invitees were, moving personnel around at such a time was very difficult. As for sending aid to Cha Mu Town, it’s impossible, since Yognot is there; Cha Mu Town is essentially the place least needing Maomu City’s support.

Should anything unexpected happen, it wouldn’t be Maomu City stepping in; the Divine Beasts would resolve it immediately, otherwise it would be problematic if Yognot’s true form awakened.

Of course, this doesn’t mean Maomu City can ignore that side completely; it’s just that anyone capable of causing trouble there is basically beyond Maomu City’s ability to handle.

Thus, not sending support to Cha Mu Town makes sense to the Divine Beasts, maybe even approval. Since effective backup can’t be provided, why waste manpower? It might be unkind, but the current situation simply cannot support image-building projects.

Maomu City’s sudden invitation to Cha Mu Town for leisure makes Feng Yuan suspect it’s because of him. Other Beastmasters have dealt with Maomu City officials before, unlike him, and if they wanted to relax, Maomu City wouldn’t be the one inviting them.

So Feng Yuan is suspicious that this is all because of him, while others are invited merely to make it less obvious.

"What do you say? You surely know what’s going on."

Rolling her eyes, Veronia said with exasperation, she could see it so clearly, how could Feng Yuan not understand? Come on, that guy absolutely knows full well.

"Hmm, it’s a bit troublesome, you know that if I leave Maomu City..."

"No big deal. I’ll watch over things for you."

With a snort, Veronia replied with annoyance. It’s not like she doesn’t understand Feng Yuan’s concerns; in fact, she can guess why Maomu City did this precisely because she knew.

"No need, it’s risky but a temporary leave shouldn’t be too problematic. I doubt they have the ability to cross the Temple and surprise Maomu City now."

After pondering, Feng Yuan declined Veronia’s offer since it was unnecessary. He was just slightly worried, but the likelihood of his fears coming true was truly low.

After all, Maomu City wasn’t held together by Feng Yuan alone; except the Anti-Divine Beast Rune posed some challenges, most of the Empire’s timeline offensives could be handled by Maomu City itself, the difference was only in how many casualties.

"Oh well, we’ll see how it goes. If they invite me, I’ll go for a walk."

Smiling, Feng Yuan said; deep down, he knew his trip to Cha Mu Town wouldn’t alter anything since the odds of incidents were incredibly slim, but he couldn’t shake the worry.

If Maomu City personally invites, well... he doesn’t have much reason to refuse.

Unsurprisingly, Maomu City indeed invited Feng Yuan to Cha Mu Town for relaxation, yet Liao Yu, delivering the invitation, was unsure what Feng Yuan would do. After all, he stayed in Maomu City with his own ideas, not to mention personally, he wanted Feng Yuan to remain.

Considering any unexpected incidents, Feng Yuan’s presence there meant at least two Divine Beasts could respond promptly, despite Cha Mu Town being not far from Maomu City, there’s still some distance.

He understood though; his thought was excessive, given the war, Maomu City really wasn’t a comfortable place now, at least from Feng Yuan’s perspective.

In contrast, despite Cha Mu Town facing war threats too, its tourism industry still allowed for carving out a comfortable travel zone even now.

"Cha Mu Town leisure trip? I’m interested; leave now?"

Feng Yuan said, somewhat surprised, looking at the invitation, where the departure time seemed rather special. If not for ’leisure’, he’d think it was a conscription letter, as a formal invitation wouldn’t state ’leave immediately’.

"Huh?"

Liao Yu was stunned; he hadn’t read the invitation and didn’t know what it said. Noticing Feng Yuan’s strange tone, he hurried over and saw ’leave immediately’ at the end, he said amusedly,

"It must be the work of the City Defence Army; they’ve been responsible for external letters lately."

It’s not that Maomu City can’t spare people for this; rather, because of the war, to prevent command confusion, all external-related letters were temporarily handled by a new department. Otherwise, it might result in multiple departments summoning the same Beastmaster.

However, they’re used to writing conscription documents; suddenly tasked with drafting an informal invitation, this lapse occurred.

"Wait, I’ll check what’s really meant."

Regardless, Liao Yu didn’t believe the original intent was ’leave immediately’. That’s ridiculous; this act’s supposed to be goodwill, yet it makes a mess, it’s better not done.

As expected, Liao Yu’s report surprised them; nobody writes invitations that way, though since folks from City Defence handled it amidst chaos, it’s somewhat understandable—errors while busy aren’t impossible.

As for the real intention, it was meant as ’depart anytime’, left up to the invitee’s preference, whenever they decide to leave, but it’s written like that...

After hearing Liao Yu’s explanation, Feng Yuan stroked his chin saying,

"I see, then let’s leave immediately~"

Grinning awkwardly, Liao Yu replied with embarrassment,

"Seriously, don’t joke; the event lasts a month, so go whenever, just call me, I’ll arrange it for you."

"I’m not joking; packing doesn’t take long, at most I’ll ask the Big Cat if they want to join."

"Oh... huh? What about your friends? You can bring them along."

"Qi Chen and the others, haha, no need to call them along; if they really joined, they probably wouldn’t be in the mood for fun."

Laughing, Feng Yuan said; it’s not that he wasn’t considering inviting Qi Chen, but they likely weren’t in a mood for leisure either. Given the remaining crisis, unlike Feng Yuan, they had more attachments in Maomu City.

Their families were there, leaving now for fun, they’d be worried even though powerless against the situation.

Feng Yuan hadn’t thought to invite them; he knew Qi Chen would probably accept, but... going for fun should be joyful, not forced.

Liao Yu merely asked casually, and Feng Yuan’s reply showed understanding; if it were him, he’d likely not want to visit Cha Mu Town now.

Leisure trips aren’t fitting; he has kin there; it’s war time, and despite the Temple’s presence, no one knows what tomorrow brings.

"Alright, I understand. You’re ready to leave? I’ll contact transport now."

Sighing, Liao Yu smiled as he replied; arranged transport was necessary as inviting someone on a leisure trip but asking them to find their own way is unacceptable.

Especially now with public transport between Cha Mu and Maomu City almost halted; a few buses run at very long intervals.

Conversely, the roads between the two places are smooth due to halted public transport and fewer people roaming, riding Spirit Beasts is indeed possible, and some Beastmasters did just that.

Yet sincerity was required.

"Alright, I’ll ask the Big Cat and the others, by the way, how’s the leisure trip planned? Cha Mu Town can’t spare staff now, right?"

Recalling something, Feng Yuan asked curiously, Liao Yu scratched his head saying,

"I don’t know, should I call to ask?"

"Nah, I’ll just ask when I get there."
