Chapter 883: Chapter 882: The First Step to Settling Down

After who knows how long, Yu Sheng, Red and the others finally found Big Nephew and Sela sunbathing by the lakeshore. Everyone gathered around that grassy pit, staring dumbfounded at the two who had just scrambled up out of it, their gazes especially locking onto Sela.

Red had rarely been this utterly dumbfounded in her whole life.

Because there were several leaves swaying in the wind on Sela’s head, with two little white flowers nestled among them, and several thin vine tendrils wrapped in green leaves dangling down through her hair like a bunch of fancy braids—some of the longest vines were even still connected into the soil.

This high-tier Vampire herself also seemed a bit confused, standing dazed by the grassy pit, wide-eyed staring at Red as the two of them double-dumbfounded each other. It took quite a while before she finally raised a hand to smooth down the thin vines hanging from her hair, and then those tendrils visibly shrank back, quickly disappearing behind her head.

Only the two little white flowers stubbornly stood atop Sela’s head, swaying in the wind for a long while before finally falling off, where Hu Li picked them up and ate them.

Hu Li looked quite pleased: "Sweet and silky~"

"So you just now learned photosynthesis from Zheng Zhi?" Red stared wide-eyed at her former personal maid. "...Is that even something you can learn?!"

"I—I don’t know," the Vampire Lady looked completely at a loss, and under the Queen’s gaze she seemed to feel she’d committed some enormous crime. "I accidentally fell asleep, then the ’sunlight’ felt really comfy, and when I woke up I found leaves growing on my head, and they just felt like part of my body..."

"Holy shit!" Erin finally couldn’t hold back a shout, even standing up on Yu Sheng’s shoulder. She immediately twisted around and yelled loudly, "Old Tree! You seeing this—what the hell is this situation?!"

The wind swept through the crown of the Angel Giant Tree, bringing a soft rustling sound. The Old Tree’s slow voice lagged by several seconds before appearing in everyone’s minds: "...Ah, how fascinating—"

Erin almost fell off Yu Sheng’s shoulder: "You’re the one sighing about it?! With this kind of situation going on, can’t you speed up that brain of yours a little?!"

"First of all, I am a plant... Secondly, as a plant... I am already trying to be faster..." The Tree Angel spoke in that unhurried tone while focusing its attention on Sela. After observing her for quite a while, it finally continued, even more slowly, "...Relax, harmless. No medical accident."

"She does look pretty lively," Yu Sheng blinked after listening, then turned to glance at Sela. "But the problem is, what kind of..."

"The influence is bidirectional," the Tree Angel’s voice echoed lazily in everyone’s mind. "The Dark Moon Royal Court has taken root in my essence... It’d be unfair if only I were affected..."

Yu Sheng and the others traded wide-eyed looks, each wearing practically the same expression—This shit actually works?

Sela, who had only been through Resurrection not long ago, was still a bit muddle-headed, but was slowly piecing things together now. She carefully stole a glance at her Queen, then turned to look at the awe-inspiring Angel Giant Tree. After hesitating forever, she finally spoke up in a small voice: "A-actually I feel pretty good. This way... is not bad."

Red froze for a moment, her expression turning a bit complicated, and then as if something occurred to her, her gaze finally began to relax.

"Yeah... this is already very good. Like this is already very good."

Standing on Yu Sheng’s shoulder, Erin looked left and right, then suddenly clapped her hands: "Alright then, from today on, the first batch of Vampires in this Universe who can do photosynthesis has officially been born."

"What even is my life," Yu Sheng muttered, clutching his forehead, "Can’t anything in my vicinity just once follow normal logic..."

Erin: "How is the logic not normal?! Tell me which step isn’t perfectly reasonable!"

Yu Sheng hurriedly raised a hand to guard the back of his head, protecting that hair more precious to him than life itself. And just then, Luna, who was standing to the side, seemed to notice something, suddenly lifting a hand to point at the sky: "Lord, over there, someone’s coming."

Yu Sheng quickly looked up, and the next second saw a huge white silhouette flying in from the direction of the Pioneer Camp, rapidly approaching.

It was a pure white giant dragon, and it seemed to be carrying bulky cargo in its claws.

And around that pure white silhouette, you could vaguely see some Black Spots flying in the sky, which only resolved into large cargo drones with hanging transport pods once they got closer.

Erin looked quite happy: "Ah, Ironclad Expression’s here with the delivery!"

The pure white giant dragon flew across the sky, passing through the edge of the Suspended River where several hanging, continuous waterfalls formed a majestic curtain, soon arriving above the Angel Giant Tree. Under everyone’s gaze, she slowed and circled twice, and during this, she tossed several large cargo crates from her claws down into the lake.

Then she began rapidly dropping altitude...

In that instant, cold sweat burst out of Yu Sheng’s white hair. Every happy and unhappy thing in his life started flashing before his eyes, but since his life had been too short there wasn’t much to flash through, and then he saw Baili Qing (in giant dragon form) charging toward the Angel Giant Tree’s crown with eyes shining.

What followed was a chorus of crashing and rustling sounds as the giant dragon burst through the outer branches of the crown. Then, with surprising agility, she flipped over, and her two powerful hind claws grabbed onto the thickest branch of the Angel Giant Tree, hanging there nice and steady.

Yu Sheng: "..."

At that moment, his face was stretched tight like a sentient roll of bandages.

Then he heard Red beside him speak up in obvious excitement, her tone sounding like a century-old grievance finally vindicated: "I told you my teaching back then was fine! She just never found a tree that suited her before..."

The scene went quiet for two seconds, and the Little Puppet started poking Yu Sheng’s head: "Yu Sheng, Yu Sheng, I think I kind of get what you meant just now."

Yu Sheng didn’t respond, just tilted his head back to look at the pure-white giant dragon hanging in the Angel Giant Tree’s canopy. The two of them stared wide-eyed at each other across a huge distance for several seconds, and then he suddenly snapped out of it, turned his head to Red: "Hold up, did you ever teach her how to get down after hanging on a tree?"

Red: "...?"

Yu Sheng: "...?"

Erin clapped her hands: "Well, we’re screwed now~"

The very next second, everyone heard a rustling commotion from overhead—the giant dragon let go of her claws and started dropping straight down in free fall.

In that instant, everyone around Yu Sheng bolted...

Sela had actually wanted to stop and grab Yu Sheng, but before she could reach out, Red dragged her away; she only had time to let out a yelp.

But just as Yu Sheng’s life was about to start flashing before his eyes again, Baili Qing, who was plummeting through midair, had already shifted forms in a burst of radiance. In almost the blink of an eye she turned into her usual human appearance, then came down in a smooth, badass vertical landing pose right in front of Yu Sheng—her feet stomped out a big crater in the ground.

Only then did the Tree Angel’s leisurely voice drift into Yu Sheng’s mind: "Oh my... I didn’t dare move, afraid she’d fall..."

Listening to the voice in his head and looking at the scene in front of him, Yu Sheng took two seconds to react before he started clapping with an Ironclad Expression.

Turns out, hanging on a tree first as a buffer before landing does help. Aside from the usual problem of not being able to find a suitable tree, Red’s flight training was actually spotless...

The crowd that had just scattered now swarmed back again.

Baili Qing stood by the lakeshore, sweeping her gaze expressionlessly around them, looking quite authoritative: "What were you running for?"

Zheng Zhi’s face was green: "Boss, I’m not even officially hired yet, I really can’t afford this..."

Erin had already scrambled back up onto Yu Sheng: "Honestly I knew you’d be fine, you don’t have any looming bloodshed disaster..."

Yu Sheng glared, brows locked: "You were the first one to run!"

"Wasn’t I also the first one back?"

"That’s because your little short legs can’t outrun anyone but you turn faster!"

"Yu Sheng, screw you——"

While Yu Sheng bickered, the actual work didn’t get delayed. As they spoke, over a dozen heavy drones were already lowering altitude by the lakeshore. The cargo pods slung under them obviously had smart management features; once they touched down, they unfolded on their own, with adaptive chassis forming one material stack point after another along the shore, all piled with various supplies urgently needed to set up a temporary settlement.

And those few large cargo boxes that Baili Qing had tossed into the lake earlier were now being driven toward the shore by their built-in propulsion systems. Inside were the water purification equipment Yu Sheng had requested, as well as two sets of mobile energy units.

"I brought the supplies over first. As for personnel... we’re short-handed back at the camp. I asked the director to assemble a medical and construction team on the other side of the gate as soon as possible. If all goes well, they can be in place by daytime today," Baili Qing said. "What I brought this time should be enough to keep a temporary camp of under a thousand people running for a short period—if we want to move more supplies, we’ll have to rely on a large fixed Teleportation Gate."

"It’s enough for emergency needs," Yu Sheng nodded. "Large-scale logistics always takes some time anyway... I’ll get the Teleportation Gate set up first. Also, Old Tree, you can start catalyzing the next batch of ’fruit’. Don’t make too many each time—let’s do batches of fifty for now, or Red won’t be able to handle them all."

The Tree Angel’s unhurried voice came into everyone’s minds: "Understood..."

Originally, Yu Sheng had planned to wait until bulk supplies were in place and all the support teams from various sides had arrived before having the Tree Angel begin mass Resurrection of the Dark Moon People. But Sela’s rapid adaptation to the new environment made him tweak the sequence a bit. The newly reborn Dark Moon People seemed to only need a few hours of recovery before they could serve as manpower for building the camp... letting them participate in constructing their new home themselves might be better.

Red clearly grasped Yu Sheng’s arrangement quickly; she nodded at once: "Sela and I will handle reception and guidance for the newly born."

From the Angel Giant Tree’s canopy came the sound of branches rubbing and growing once more, and a new batch of adjusted "pods" entered their incubation cycle. At the same time, Yu Sheng stepped over to the trunk of the great tree.

The trunk base of this grand giant tree stood on the Lake Heart Island like a mottled ancient city wall. Its dark-brown bark was steeped in age, yet within it flowed faintly visible streams of vital light.

Yu Sheng took some time to find a spot where the trunk surface and the surrounding ground were relatively flat—two massive roots rose from the ground on either side of this area, forming a natural corridor-like structure in between.

Yu Sheng walked forward and patted the base of the giant tree twice.

A perfect place to set up a Teleportation Gate.
