Chapter 1214: Chapter 550: Never Separated Again
Just before Teresa called out to Herbert to convey her thoughts, she suddenly sensed something was wrong.
She saw a very familiar back.
Besides the two of them, there was another person kneeling in front of Lord Herbert, his body trembling nonstop.
The man looked ragged, his clothes full of holes, dried blood visible beneath the tattered fabric, like he hadn’t taken care of himself for a long time, utterly unkempt.
A weathered, miserable aura clung to him; his posture was so humble and worked up, his whole body heaving violently under some overwhelming emotion.
"Eh?"
But that wretched figure... the longer she looked, the more familiar he seemed?
The more she looked, the more he looked like her... father?
?
Eh?
"Dad... uh, Father?"
The way she wanted to call him almost burst out, but was forced back down by sheer shock and uncertainty, finally turning into a hesitant, trembling confirmation.
Hearing the girl’s puzzled murmur, Herbert turned around, blinking without surprise: "Oh, you’re here. Why didn’t Yunier come with you?"
At the same time, that kneeling figure shuddered, turned back in a daze, and mumbled, "Te... Teresa."
That face that turned around—even though it was smeared with grime, etched with exhaustion and hardship, eye sockets sunken and cheeks gaunt—Teresa would never mistake it. That was clearly the face of her father from her memories!
Only now he looked much older and far more haggard than she remembered; yet in those eyes, now brimming with tears and locked onto her, she could still find the outline she once knew.
It really is him!!?
Teresa stared blankly at the tear- and snot-covered man, sinking into a sudden whirl of self-doubt.
Eh?
Am I not fully awake yet?
The very person she’d steeled herself to go out and search for had suddenly appeared before her, with zero warning.
Is this... right?
What did I come here for again?
Oh, I worked up my courage to come and say goodbye to Lord Herbert. I was going to leave, to search for my father.
And now what’s happening?
The father I was going to look for has somehow shown up in Elda, and is kneeling right next to Lord Herbert, his face all messed up with tears and snot.
???
Wait, what did Lord Herbert just say?
Why didn’t Yunier come with you?
Could it be... he sent Yunier to wake me up?
So that means... she actually knew?
Then just now she...
Thinking back to Yunier’s look—wanting to speak but holding back, her gaze flickering... Teresa instantly understood!
Teresa felt her brain going fuzzy. She shook her head hard, trying to sort things out.
She threw the little matter of her "bestie’s betrayal" to the back of her mind and stared wide-eyed at that middle-aged man she hadn’t seen in so long.
Even though her father’s appearance was kind of disgraceful, Teresa didn’t feel angry, nor did she feel distressed.
She didn’t know why he was crying, but instinctively felt that these tears weren’t born of sorrow.
Her father wasn’t crying because of parting; there was no pain in his tears, only joy and gratitude overflowing.
Joy? Gratitude?
Why would Dad... huh?
And then Teresa finally noticed it.
Her gaze went blank, fixed straight ahead of where her father was kneeling, past Lord Herbert’s figure.
She saw it.
In the Heroic Spirit Pool behind Lord Herbert, a Phantom figure was standing.
That... figure that had only ever appeared in her dreams.
The woman’s form was a little blurry, composed of pure Soul Energy, radiating a gentle light.
Her features weren’t very clear, but Teresa would never mistake her.
"...Mom?"
A murmur like dreaming slipped from the girl’s lips. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she kept staring at that woman who looked just like a Heroic Spirit.
Teresa’s voice was so soft, as if she were afraid of disturbing this unbelievable Phantom. She didn’t even dare to breathe, scared that a single breath might blow away the scene before her.
How could Mom be here!!?
"Ahahaha..."
Looking at the girl, the woman showed a slightly embarrassed smile and said awkwardly:
"Well, Mom did finally manage to make up her mind to say goodbye to you, to let you learn to be strong and forget me... but now, it seems like things have changed just a tiny bit."
Her voice carried the ethereal echo unique to a soul, yet it was still full of the warmth from Teresa’s memories.
The woman, now a Heroic Spirit, pressed her lips together and scratched her Phantom cheek, looking a bit flustered, just like when she’d messed something up by accident while she was alive.
But seeing the tears streaming down her daughter’s face, she took a deep breath and stopped saying anything irrelevant.
She looked tenderly at the stunned girl, her own tears falling uncontrollably, yet she still used the gentlest voice to say, "My dear little Teresa, Mom’s back."
"Our family will never be separated again."
