Chapter 1143: Chapter 533: You’re Going to Be Rewarded!
Aurora Sanctuary.
Above the dome, the swirling aurora like a gentle veil casts its cold and dreamy light across the silent hall.
The Fallen Angel hangs her head low, her dark wings spread out gently, wrapping her body. Her fingertips lightly brush the tips of her feathers, like a bird preening its own plumage.
Suddenly, her movements pause, and she lifts her eyes to look at the void ahead.
In the next moment, a door appears out of nowhere.
Cre-a-k.
"Hey! I’m back!"
The person she was waiting for pushed the door open, flashing her a signature cheerful smile and said, "What kind of reward do you want?"
"Hmm?"
Luhier was taken aback, the smile that had just formed on her lips froze.
What?
Herbert, having left Ophidia’s place, returned to the Aurora Sanctuary. Seeing Miss Fallen Angel with her wings lowered in silence, he didn’t hesitate and spoke frankly:
"Luhier, you really helped me a lot this time, I must reward you well!"
Luhier blinked, her fingers paused briefly at the tips of her black wings, and a trace of surprise flashed in her eyes.
He’s talking about a reward...
She tilted her head a little in perplexity and smiled helplessly.
Just as she was about to speak, Herbert interrupted her, raising a finger and gently waving it before her eyes.
"Wait, don’t rush to answer."
"And don’t say something like ’as long as I helped you, that’s enough, no need for a reward’!"
Herbert blocked all her paths.
No refusing!
I don’t want what you think, I want what I think.
"Uh."
Luhier was rendered speechless by his insistence, only able to utter a short syllable.
Miss Fallen Angel lightly pressed her lips together, her wings lowered, casting a small shadow on the ground like the unresolved dilemmas in her heart.
"What? Did I guess right?"
"...Yes."
Luhier nodded rather helplessly, staying conflicted in silence for a long moment, her fingers unwittingly twirling a lock of long hair in front of her.
Finally, she shook her head and said helplessly, "But I really don’t know what I want."
She wasn’t doing it on purpose or playing hard to get, she genuinely had no such idea.
A reward?
What reward?
To this Fallen Angel, who once fought for the Divine, the concept of asking for a reward doesn’t exist at all.
She lifted her gaze, her distant look seemed to pass through Herbert, towards some faraway past.
To clarify her thoughts, Luhier explained seriously:
"For Angels, there is no habit of rewards."
"Back then, we fought for glory, for faith, never truly expecting any specific rewards from the Divine."
"For us, whatever we receive from the Divine, be it power, treasure, or trust, is supreme glory."
The Fallen Angel’s voice was calm and clear, as if stating an eternal truth.
It has always been this way.
This is our operating rules, this is the destiny of Angels.
Created beings never have the power to ask from their creator.
After explaining, Luhier looked at Herbert who remained unchanged, and sighed softly, her mouth curving downward, speaking in a low voice quite helplessly:
"So, asking me to offer up what I want... I really can’t do it."
Her voice carried a hint of unrecognized complaint, but upon closer listening, also seemed like a subtle emotion akin to a childlike plea.
You’re really making it difficult for me.
"Then I don’t care."
Herbert, seeing Luhier’s grievance-filled expression, spread his hands, adopting a no-negotiation stance.
Seeing her puzzled face, even slightly aggrieved, deepened his smile. He cheerfully walked up to her, saying leisurely:
"The past is the past, now is now."
"Besides..."
His gaze swept over her black wings out of place within the sacred hall, boldly reaching out to stroke them, speaking softly: "Would the one standing before me now still be that naive Archangel Miss of the past?"
"The present you is different from your past self."
His tone was firm yet gentle, not ridiculing but stating a fact.
"You have self-will now, no longer a puppet moving by Divine’s will."
"See, you even find it troubling and helpless because of my request. This itself is proof you have your own emotions."
"You have the right to ask, and you must exercise this power."
He leaned in slightly, his gaze intense, saying seriously: "Only then can you prove you’ve fully freed yourself from past shackles."
"Now, please tell me your deepest desire."
Herbert slightly raised his head, looking at the fallen Angel slightly taller than him, gesturing "please" softly: "Boldly state it, prove your transformation to me."
He gazed seriously at the angel’s hesitant face, his eyes clear and bright, devoid of any mockery, only pure encouragement and expectation.
"Don’t doubt yourself, you can definitely do it."
"Trust me, you... definitely aren’t a puppet without desires, you have your own ideas, you just haven’t truly faced them yet."
While with others, Herbert would not necessarily force them to ask for a reward.
But facing Luhier, he had to do so.
This wasn’t ill-intentioned difficulty for her.
It’s constant reminders — you are different from the past now, the present you can achieve it.
He watched Luhier’s contemplative profile patiently, believing that she would finally take that step.
