Diary of a Criminal Investigator

Chapter 886: Operation Capture

  • Next Chapter

Such scenes occurred in every household in the village; there was always someone not at home, but the police didn’t miss a single one in collecting fingerprints.

It was soon afternoon, and most of the villagers had already been fingerprinted, but some were still out and hadn’t returned, so they had to wait until the afternoon.

However, the first batch of fingerprints had already been sent back to the Criminal Investigation Team in the High-tech Zone.

Seven or eight crime scene investigators from various Criminal Investigation Teams had already begun comparisons.

Over at Lu Chuan’s side, they were conducting a detailed analysis of the fingerprints pressed into the soil from the shovel.

Therefore, it would be much easier to compare, as the collected fingerprints were clear and complete; if any characteristic points matched, it could basically confirm whether the fingerprint belonged to the suspect.

So although the workload was large, the actual difficulty was not high, and the intensity was not great either.

The seven or eight individuals cooperated in division of labor, and the fingerprints were sent over continuously for comparison.

With the help of the system, these investigators did not need to manually enlarge and examine each individual horseshoe mark; they only needed to mark the characteristic points of the newly collected fingerprints to compare them with the one-third of a fingerprint.

Beep, beep, beep!

Suddenly, a piercing alarm sounded in the office.

Two scene-investigation detectives, who were comparing fingerprints, thought there was a fire and looked around, only to realize something was amiss.

There was no fire; it was clearly the computer that was sounding the alarm.

"A match!"

The fingerprint comparison system is automatically set, so when there’s a successful fingerprint match, it issues an alarm prompt.

"It’s really a match!"

"Liang Jun!"

"It’s Liang Jun from Beihong Village!"

"Quick, call the front line!"

Soon, news came in from the Criminal Investigation Team; the fingerprint match was successful, and the owner was a villager from Beihong Village named Liang Jun.

The two detectives in charge of fingerprint collection, Zhang Feng and Chen Xiao, quickly appeared before Lu Chuan.

Chen Xiao was a bit nervous upon meeting Lu Chuan; he had heard of Lu Chuan’s reputation but had never met him in person before.

Zhang Feng was much calmer, and immediately reported on the fingerprint collection situation after meeting Lu Chuan.

"This Liang Jun, we specifically went to map his fingerprints; his family members include his parents, a child, and a wife."

Zhang Feng hadn’t expected to collect the target fingerprint.

Liang Jun seemed honest and simple. Just before, with his head down, Liang Jun was facing the yellow earth, working diligently, initially giving Zhang Feng the impression of an ordinary farmer. Who would’ve thought he was the murderer?

"Where is he now?"

"He should still be in the field; we just returned less than an hour ago."

Lu Chuan considered, "Alright, split into two groups: one goes directly to the fields, the other goes to Liang Jun’s house."

After speaking, Lu Chuan looked at Zhang Feng, "Zhang Feng, you come with me to the field, and this..."

Zhang Feng quickly responded, "My apprentice, Chen Xiao."

"Chen Xiao, you lead Wang Zhaokai and their group to the house!"

"Me?"

Chen Xiao was a bit baffled.

Could he actually take part in the capture operation?

Lu Chuan saw Chen Xiao’s hesitation, "What’s the problem?"

"Um... not really a problem, but I’m still in the intern phase... Can I join the operation?"

Lu Chuan laughed, "So what if you’re an intern? I caught a murderer during my intern period too."

"Alright, each group, prepare for action!"

"Also, be careful; the suspect might be the murderer, so be cautious during capture. Ready the bullets, shoot immediately if things go wrong."

The suspect’s fingerprint matched those found on the murder weapon, which is concrete evidence; the suspect is the criminal, no doubt about it.

From the perspective of closing the loop on clues, Liang Jun is identified as the perpetrator.

Lu Chuan has cracked many murder cases, and he knows a suspect doesn’t wear ’murderer’ on their face.

Before being caught, they’re all good people, but once apprehended, there’s no telling how they’ll react.

Protecting one’s own safety is the most important thing.

"Bulletproof vest, stab-proof jacket, prepare before heading out!"

"Yes, sir!"

Two teams, each with a dozen people, set off!

"Captain Wang... I..."

Under Chen Xiao’s lead, Wang Zhaokai’s team headed towards Liang Jun’s home.

Out of everyone, only Chen Xiao knew exactly where Liang Jun lived, so he had to lead the team.

"What’s wrong? Forgot the address?"

"No, no." Chen Xiao quickly gestured to Wang Zhaokai, "I’m just too nervous..."

Chen Xiao pointed to the bulletproof vest he was wearing, "I only wore this during police school training; I haven’t touched it since starting work."

"There won’t be any conflict, right?"

Wang Zhaokai patted Chen Xiao’s shoulder and said, "Don’t be nervous; look at our group of ten or so people; the suspect is just one person—it should be easy to catch him."

"You’re quite lucky; if we catch him this time, you’ll have made a significant contribution and might get promoted early."

Wang Zhaokai reflected.

Everyone needs a bit of luck sometimes.

In this operation, there were many intern officers like Chen Xiao.

However...

They didn’t manage to collect Liang Jun’s fingerprint; it was left to Chen Xiao.

Now, leading a large group of detectives to apprehend the suspect, if successful, Chen Xiao would certainly have something to show for it, paving the way to a smooth career start.

Back at the station, he should be able to secure an early promotion, getting involved in case-solving earlier than his peers.

One step ahead, step by step ahead; Chen Xiao’s future may not be limited to the police station.

Both internally and externally, accomplishments are a form of capital.

Officers with and without honors have completely different treatments.

While he might not achieve third-class merit, even a commendation would make him stand out.

Coincidentally, while Lu Chuan’s group was preparing to catch Liang Jun, the suspect had already finished his fieldwork and was heading back to the village.

Farmers say that an unattractive wife and nearby land are treasures.

Liang Jun’s land was his family’s treasure, just 200 meters from the village, making farming convenient.

While the two teams were closing in for the capture, Liang Jun was walking back from the fields, on the village path.

"Liangzi, you’re back?"

"Sixth Uncle."

Liang Jun was well-liked in the village, greeting folks along the way with a nod.

"Have you finished fingerprinting?"

"Yes, finished. I was working in the field, and the police collected my fingerprints right there."
