Chapter 999: Chapter 475: Time Sand (First Update)

Lawrence Winters was utterly baffled by the old Daoist’s fantastical ramblings.

"...Grandmaster Grandpa, I don’t read much, so you can’t fool me." Lawrence steadied himself, holding onto his small backpack, a sly glint in his eyes. "Since you said my Soft Whip is made of the tendons of Gonggong, this is the most valuable thing from a highly endangered protected animal. When I return home, I’ll have another teacher of mine inspect it, to see exactly what it’s made of."

Old Daoist: "!!!"

Lawrence’s other teacher, now named Ian Lothrop, formerly known as Timothy Graham...

He’s quite a formidable character!

The old Daoist promptly sat up straight, chuckling nervously, saying, "I was just telling you a mythological story, how could you take it seriously? Besides, whether Gonggong even exists is another matter. Where would I find its dragon tendons to make you a Soft Whip, right? You shouldn’t take it to your other teacher and let him laugh at our Celestial Path Sect..."

With the old Daoist saying this, Lawrence knew he had backed down.

She also knew the old Daoist was speaking with truth and falsehoods intertwined.

What he admitted might not be true.

What he denied might not be false.

Ultimately, whether it’s true or false, she has to rely on her own mind to analyze and judge.

Lawrence wasn’t overly concerned, just relieved to confirm that her Soft Whip had nothing to do with this Gonggong. Only then did Lawrence breathe a sigh of relief.

She wasn’t afraid, just found it quite unsettling.

Gonggong, to say it out loud, seems like an intelligent creature. She wouldn’t want to use tendons from an intelligent creature to make herself a whip.

Pure dragons were fine.

She was a carnivore and not that hypocritical; she wouldn’t cry saying, "Bunnies are so cute, why eat bunnies," while eagerly devouring lobsters.

In essence, both bunnies and lobsters are animals; one shouldn’t eat lobsters with a clear conscience just because they have ugly claws.

To her, spicy rabbit heads are just as enjoyable as steamed lobsters.

And she didn’t believe vegetarians were nobler.

Because plants are also life forms. If animals shouldn’t be eaten because they have life, then why eat plants?

Is it not treating the lives of plants as lives?

Veggie’s lives matter too! ←_←.

Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief, smiling, said, "Alright, then can you tell me why this whip can emit golden light? And..."

She hesitated and finally said, "Why is it that only I can see the different colored lights emanating from various Magic Artifacts with the naked eye?"

"What?! You can see the different colored lights emanating from various Magic Artifacts with the naked eye?!" The old Daoist was visibly shocked, nearly shouting aloud.

Lawrence’s Bluetooth earphone suddenly emitted such a loud noise, it almost deafened her.

"Grandmaster Grandpa, don’t you know why?!" Lawrence was also surprised. "I’ve asked others, and they can’t see it. But I can see it and it’s exactly like the instant special effects software in live broadcasts! Can you tell me what’s going on?!"

She still didn’t know that the different colored lights appearing in the live broadcast weren’t made by instant special effects software.

Yet still equally amazed.

After his shock, the old Daoist slowly sat back on his bamboo long couch.

He activated the speakerphone, folded his hands, furrowed his brow, and sat cross-legged, slowly said, "You can see the lights emitted by those Magic Artifacts, right? With the naked eye?"

"Yes, I can even see the black smoke emerging from each organ of the client’s daughter’s face... They all say it’s Black Magic... I don’t understand Black Magic, but the whip you gave me just happens to emit a golden light, which they say is ’Holy Light’, and can restrain Black Magic."

"Why is it such a coincidence?"

"Why would a Magic Artifact from the Eastern Magical System emit Holy Light from Western mythological legends?"

The questions in Lawrence’s mind kept piling up.

She was eager for the old Daoist to give her answers or at least point her in the right direction so she could find the answers herself.

The old Daoist squinted his eyes, his expression shifting subtly.

He pondered for a moment, then retrieved three tortoiseshells from underneath the long couch’s pillow and casually tossed them onto the couch.

Looking at the hexagrams revealed by the tortoiseshells, the old Daoist let out a long sigh.

He surprisingly divined the "Heaven Diagrams" for Lawrence.

The first hexagram of the sixty-four hexagrams in the I Ching: Heaven Diagrams, Heaven as sky.

Heaven, the greatest and most auspicious hexagram.

Heaven, initiates profound success and steadfast righteousness. With the way of Heaven in motion, gentlemen strive continuously.

This is the supreme and auspicious hexagram.
