Chapter 1017 - 480: Fire at the City Gate, Fish in the Moat Suffer

Chapter 1017: Chapter 480: Fire at the City Gate, Fish in the Moat Suffer

"Hahaha! I’m dying of laughter! Isn’t this the classic ’trying to steal a chicken and losing the bait’?"

"It’s more than losing the bait, they’ve even lost their pants!"

"Double standards 666! They’ve got three relatives out of five judges in the Celestial Path Sect panel, yet step on others for having just one newly recognized godparent! How much does this two-time championship winner dread our Great Heavenly Master Winters?"

...

Lawrence Winters didn’t expect Aiden Sheldon to speak up for her, and glanced at him in surprise, thinking that this dog of a dad really is a dog, even his precious daughter can’t handle how much of a dog he is...

Where’s the promised "crazy dad who spoils his daughter"?

Is there a dad who publicly slaps his precious daughter’s face like this?

Looking at Ruby Sheldon’s face, her expression, she seems utterly heartbroken...

Lawrence clicked her tongue twice, but still picked up on Aiden Sheldon’s words, smiling: "Thank you to the righteous passerby for speaking out. How about we strictly adhere to the principle of avoiding conflict of interest? I’m fine with it."

"However, I need to point out that Mr. Quentin merely mentioned making me his god-sister verbally; we’ve yet to go through proper procedures, so technically speaking, Mr. Quentin has no godparent relationship with me."

"But those three judges in the Celestial Path Sect are indeed true relatives."

"I demand Mr. Zuko to also avoid conflict of interest, either abstain or replace the three Celestial Path Sect judges."

Who is Lawrence Winters?

She wouldn’t leave any ammunition for others even when disadvantaged.

Now with the advantage clear, she’s even more ready to stir things up.

With her statement, Ruby Sheldon was dumbfounded.

It turned out Lawrence Winters played her again!

She and Quentin Parker hadn’t truly recognized their godparent status, just a verbal agreement.

But Lawrence Winters made it look like a confirmed godparent relationship in front of Ruby, making her embarrass herself in public.

Everyone knows such words are like saying, "I’ll treat you to dinner someday," casual talk that can’t be taken seriously!

If you take such polite talk as truth and badger someone with "someday," asking which day exactly, that’s being oblivious and will be laughed at.

Ruby Sheldon held her face and burst out crying.

Autumn Stetford quickly embraced her, whispering softly: "Betty, darling... Betty, don’t cry... It’s okay, with mom and dad here, no one will dare speak against you."

Aiden Sheldon sat down with a complex expression, not continuing to join Lawrence Winters in attacking the fallen.

He just didn’t want to offend Quentin Parker due to Ruby’s impulsiveness, but now, used by Lawrence Winters, it seems like he’s deliberately slapping his daughter’s face...

This frustration made him feel both uncomfortable and somewhat oddly thrilled.

Like that scholarly woman Yasmine, showing an occasional mischievousness that’s irresistibly tempting.

The host, sweating profusely, cursed Lawrence Winters inwardly but dared not show any sign externally, respectfully turning to Evan Stetford: "Mr. Evan, what do you think...?"

Evan Stetford chuckled briefly and said: "Since everyone demands avoiding conflict of interest, I think it’s necessary. Let’s proceed; we also have substitute judges. Here’s a list of substitutes; everyone can check for any relatives with the contestants. If there’s no relationship, they can be swapped in."

This backup plan was meant for the third round, but unexpectedly, Aiden Sheldon brought it out in the second round.

What’s more intriguing, the catalyst was Ruby Sheldon, even though the aim was towards Lawrence Winters.

This luck, wow, seems out of this world...

Evan Stetford, smiling all the while, handed the list to the organizing committee for discussion.

Five minutes later, the three Celestial Path Sect judges related to Mr. Zuko were replaced, with three judges who had no relationship to any contestant.

Evan Stetford also declared: If someone conceals a relationship, upon discovering after the fact, even a championship would forfeit its prize and title.

This rule with retroactive power holds significant impact.

Meanwhile, Quentin Parker remains the Supreme Judge, as he isn’t yet officially godparent to Lawrence.

Autumn Stetford, looking somewhat pale, said to Aiden Sheldon: "Could you step outside for a moment? I have something to ask you."

Aiden Sheldon thought for a moment and still accompanied her out.

The two arrived at an empty sitting room outside the small conference hall.

Autumn Stetford silently gazed at Aiden Sheldon and softly asked: "...Why do this? Why let Betty be utterly heartbroken?"

Aiden Sheldon didn’t look at her, stared at his toes, and said lightly: "Betty’s matter is different. All these years, you’ve kept her by your side without leaving and raised her, I’m grateful and thought you genuinely care for her..."

"Aren’t I?" Autumn Stetford couldn’t believe her ears, "Aiden Sheldon, ask your heart! Have I been bad to her?! Everything she demanded granted! Spoiled beyond measure! Even the true Princess doesn’t have such treatment!"

"Really?" Aiden Sheldon lifted his head, looked at her quietly, and said: "Is that how you raised Ryan and Nathan as well?"

Autumn Stetford: "..."
