Chapter 1009: Chapter 478: Not Understanding a Man’s Heart (Second Update)
Aiden Sheldon gazed deeply at the newly formed "siblings sworn oath," then looked over at Evan Stetford.
He knew exactly what Evan and Lawrence Winters were planning, finding it amusing but also feeling they were being redundant.
If he wanted to deal with someone, would he care what backing the other had?
Moreover, Lawrence was merely Quentin Parker’s casually chosen god-sister, not a real sister...
Aiden picked up his wine glass and leisurely took a sip.
Abigail Henderson and Kenneth Osborne also stopped talking, looking slightly surprised at the scene.
But they didn’t say anything either, raising their glasses together to congratulate Quentin and Lawrence.
After acknowledging Lawrence as his "sister," Quentin seemed to be in a much better mood and even ate some food.
Once everyone finished dinner, Quentin was already pleasantly tipsy.
But he hadn’t driven himself here, so there was no worry about drunk driving.
Aiden Sheldon had also drunk quite a bit tonight.
He was the last to get up and leave the restaurant.
At the restaurant entrance, he found that Quentin and Abigail had already left.
Evan Stetford stood by his car; his bodyguard opened the car door respectfully, inviting him to get in.
Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne waved at him, heading towards the parking lot to get their car.
Aiden’s driver had already brought the car around, but couldn’t find a place to park at the restaurant entrance, so had to park across the street.
His bodyguard got out of the car and walked over from the opposite side of the street to invite Aiden to cross over and get into the car.
But unexpectedly, Aiden silently followed Lawrence and Kenneth, walking forward together.
The bodyguard didn’t dare to speak, only following at a distance.
Aiden’s steps were slightly unsteady, focusing on Lawrence’s back as his vision blurred.
It felt like many years ago, on a similar night, he was following a girl’s silhouette ahead, just walking forward.
Until the girl turned around, her gentle eyes looking at him, amused, asking: "Sir, are you following me? Although there aren’t many people here, if I reported you, the police would be here within a minute."
He remembered saying, "...You don’t have to be afraid of me, I won’t do anything to you... I overheard a few people at the bar wanting to harm you, so I was worried..."
"How could that be? I was just attending a classmate’s birthday party at the bar, how could...?"
Before she finished speaking, a few unruly men emerged from the darkness, surrounding them with mocking laughter.
What did he do afterwards?
He seemed to do nothing, just an arm shielding the girl, watching as his bodyguard rushed out and beat those thugs to tears and escorted them to the police station.
The girl was extremely grateful to him, and then he took the opportunity to ask for her phone number.
Every evening after that, he would drive to her university, wait for her to finish class, and take her out to eat.
To avoid drawing attention, he drove the most inconspicuous local car, and the places he took her to dine were merely ordinary local restaurants.
Even though he fell for her at first sight, with his experience, he was not a reckless youth.
Furthermore, nurturing love slowly like simmering soup allows for better mutual understanding.
The more they understood each other, the more they found countless resonances.
Their harmony reached a level where one look or one gesture could tell what the other was going to do.
He was seven or eight years older than her, yet there was no generation gap between them.
She had a maturity in her conduct far beyond her peers.
That bookish girl possessed a scholarly aura and gentle gaze he deeply admired.
Falling in love with her was the easiest thing in the world...
But later, why did things evolve to that extent?
It was a scar in his heart that hadn’t healed for over twenty years, something he didn’t want to recall or face.
Now, had it come to a point where he had no choice but to recall and confront it?
Aiden dazedly thought, failing to notice that the two people ahead had stopped walking.
Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne exchanged a glance, then turned back to look at Aiden, calmly saying: "Mr. Sheldon, what are you following us for? Is your car parked in the parking lot too?"
They had clearly seen his car parked across the street.
They were familiar with Aiden’s driver.
Aiden blinked, and when he stopped, his body almost toppled over and fell to the ground.
The bodyguard, following from far behind, couldn’t get there in time to support him, so it was Kenneth Osborne who stepped forward to hold his arm.
Lawrence Winters pursed her lips.
She didn’t want to get involved with this dreadful father.
Thus, she had no intention of helping him either.
