Chapter 90: Let’s Get Things Straight.

The interior of the house was just as simple as the outside.

There were only a few pieces of furniture: a dining table, some chairs, shelves containing various household items, and a small kitchen area.

An older woman soon came out to greet them.

Nicholas introduced her as Abigail.

She looked surprised when she learned that Osborne would be staying with them, but unlike Vivian, her surprise quickly turned into a warm smile.

She welcomed him without asking too many questions.

Osborne found himself slightly surprised by how easily the family accepted him.

It felt strange, since he’d been cooped up within the Roosevelt household all this time.

After the introductions were finished, Vivian offered to show him the guest room.

Osborne followed her down the short hallway before she eventually opened a wooden door.

"This is where you’ll be staying." Osborne stepped inside.

The room was rather small.

There was a simple bed pushed against one wall, a small stool beside it, and a wooden chair near the window.

The walls were plain, and there wasn’t much decoration.

Still, Osborne didn’t mind.

’Feels a bit like home...’ Remembering his humble past life, Osborne couldn’t help but smile beneath his helm.

After spending several nights sleeping beneath makeshift tents in the wilderness, this already felt luxurious.

"Thank you."

Vivian paused.

It was the first time he had spoken directly to her.

She looked back at him.

"No problem." She smiled and said, before leaving him alone.

Osborne closed the door.

He stood there for several seconds. His hand reached for his helmet, only to falter and stop.

Osborne placed his hand down before walking over to the bed and sitting down.

The mattress wasn’t particularly soft, but it was still much better than sleeping on the ground.

Osborne leaned back slightly.

For the first time in several days, he allowed himself to relax.

His gaze soon fell toward his armored right hand.

He slowly raised it.

The claws that had once seemed so unnatural to him were still there.

His fingers moved slightly.

He could feel the strength running through his body.

His demonic transformation hadn’t stopped.

If anything, it had continued to progress during his journey.

Osborne sighed.

"Things really have changed." He said, his voice quiet.

He looked around the room.

There was no one here.

No Roosevelt sisters, servants, or anything regarding them whatsoever.

Truly, he was now alone.

Although he had Nicholas and his family nearby, they were strangers who knew nothing about his real identity.

That was exactly what he wanted.

His gaze returned to his hand.

’I couldn’t take anything with me.’ He thought, since his spell book had been left behind in the moment.

If only he’d placed it in his sub-space back then.

Well, he couldn’t remain bummed out because of that. Since he had none, he just needed to save up enough money to get another.

’If I want to continue studying magic, I’ll have to find another spell book.’ Osborne frowned slightly.

Magic had been one of his greatest advantages.

Being able to combine magic with his physical abilities had already saved his life several times.

However, using magic while pretending to be a normal knight was dangerous.

Dual users were rare.

Extremely rare.

If word spread that a mysterious knight was capable of using both aura and magic, there was a chance that someone from the Roosevelt family could hear about it.

And if Roseline heard about a knight capable of using magic while possessing abilities similar to Osborne’s, she might start looking in the right places.

He couldn’t afford that.

Osborne leaned forward, resting his elbows against his knees.

’I’ll have to put magic aside for now.’

It wasn’t something he liked.

But survival came first.

’I can still use aura though.’ He decided to look at the bright side.

His fingers tightened.

He didn’t have any swordsmanship to begin with, so he basically lost nothing, and the physical changes brought about by his demonic essence had already made him considerably stronger.

If he focused on his aura training, he could continue improving without exposing himself.

Magic would remain as a hidden card.

Only something he would use when there was no other choice.

’It’s annoying, but I don’t have much of a choice.’ Osborne leaned back again.

His eyes narrowed as another thought entered his mind.

He couldn’t stay in Nicholas’s house forever.

Eventually, he would need money.

He needed information.

He needed access to places where he could learn more about the world.

Most importantly, he needed a way to continue becoming stronger without attracting too much attention.

Simply wandering around the kingdom wasn’t going to accomplish that.

’I need a proper job.’

Osborne rubbed his chin.

He had already considered several possibilities during his journey.

Working for a noble was too risky.

Joining the military was even worse.

Mercenary work could earn him money, but it would also mean constantly working with people who might eventually become suspicious of him.

Then there was another option.

His eyes gradually brightened.

’An adventurer.’ On thinking of this route, a small smile appeared beneath his helmet.

There was an adventurers guild in this world.

He remembered that much from the novel.

Unlike the military, adventurers weren’t tied to a single noble household.

They accepted jobs from ordinary people, merchants, nobles, villages, and sometimes even the kingdom itself.

Their work could involve everything from hunting monsters to escorting merchants or gathering rare materials.

More importantly, adventurers came from all kinds of backgrounds.

A mysterious knight who didn’t talk much wouldn’t necessarily attract attention.

If anything, being quiet might make him appear more intimidating.

’It could work.’ Osborne’s smile widened.

The guild could provide him with several things at once.

Money.

Information.

Connections.

Combat experience.

And perhaps even access to places he wouldn’t normally be able to enter.

He could build up his new identity there.

Nobody needed to know that Dokebai was actually Osborne Bismarck.

They wouldn’t be able to pin his connection to the Roosevelt household as well.

’If I become a useful adventurer, I can slowly build up my own network.’
