Demon Lord reborn as The Hero's Child
Chapter 45: The Uninvited Guests
Kōya lowered the heavy sword. He could feel exactly how aggressively it hungered for his energy. If he allowed it to draw from his newly awakened Heroic reserves freely, the intense flow would burn him out and exhaust his soul in a matter of seconds. He had to leash it.
He closed his eyes and began meticulously regulating the arcane flow. Slowly. Carefully. Building a mental dam to restrict the intake.
The overwhelming golden radiance faded entirely, leaving only a faint, perfectly controlled glow pulsing beneath the steel.
Kōya studied the ancient weapon, his eyes cold and focused. "Let’s check this out."
He walked back into the dining room, his boots crunching over the shattered wood.
He approached the dining table and looked down at the remaining food. His stomach was empty, a hollow ache in his core. But that wasn’t why he sat down in his chair.
This was the final meal he had shared with his father. It was a sacred offering made by his mother.
Kōya picked up his wooden spoon. He began to eat the cold food. Slowly. Methodically.
With every single bite he swallowed, a memory flashed across his consciousness, fueling the fire building in his chest.
Yuna, smiling by the lake, asking him to wait until morning.
The sprawling, safe courtyards of the Academy.
Aoi’s terrified face. Haru’s bloody hands.
The wise, exhausted Professor throwing himself into the demon horde.
The brave, nameless adventurer who had severed his own arm just to buy Kōya a few seconds of life.
Everyone who had stood beside him. Everyone who had bled to protect him. Everyone who had sacrificed a piece of their own existence simply so Kōya could keep moving forward.
Kōya lowered his dark eyes to the empty bowl.
"Thank you."
He wasn’t entirely sure who he was speaking to. Maybe all of them. Maybe his father resting in the mud outside. Maybe his mother, currently chained in the dark.
He took another cold bite. "I will not waste it."
Another bite. "I will not waste a single drop of what any of you gave me."
His eyes hardened into abyssal, unforgiving voids. "I’ll bring Mom home."
He finished the meal, setting the wooden spoon down with absolute finality. He carefully, respectfully moved the remaining ceramic dishes to the far edge of the table.
Kōya stood up.
He raised the massive Hero’s Sword and drove it vertically down into the center of the heavy oak dining table. The enormous, glowing blade pierced straight through the thick wood, anchoring itself deeply into the floorboards below.
Kōya climbed up and sat cross-legged directly on the edge of the table. His left hand rested casually around the golden hilt. His borrowed, blood-stained adventurer’s dagger lay flat on the wood behind him.
He stared at the pulsing golden steel.
"This is the same legendary sword that pierced my chest in my past life."
His fingers tightened around the hilt, feeling the irony of destiny.
"Now..." His voice dropped into a terrifying, sub-zero register. "It will destroy my enemies."
Kōya closed his eyes.
And he waited in the dark.
Far above the silent, ruined village, something massive moved seamlessly beneath the pale moon.
One shadow. Then another. Then a dozen more, blotting out the stars.
A specialized hunting group of high-tier demons flew silently through the night sky, their massive, leathery silhouettes illuminated by the moonlight.
Six hulking Orc Demon Generals flew at the absolute center of the strict military formation. Ten elite Assassin Demons flanked them, riding the thermal currents. The assassins were significantly leaner, their musculature tightly wound like coiled springs. Their movements were terrifyingly fast, and their cursed, jagged daggers were already drawn, dripping with lethal neurotoxins.
Below them, the abandoned village remained completely, eerily silent. No flickering lanterns. No panicked voices. No movement in the muddy streets.
Then, one of the keen-eyed assassins noticed an anomaly.
A tiny, solitary light.
It was coming from a single house near the edge of the woods. A faint, golden glow bleeding through the cracks of a shattered window.
"There."
The demon formation immediately banked, changing trajectory to circle the target.
The lead Orc General glared down at the small wooden structure, his massive tusks gleaming in the moonlight. "So, that is where the boy fled."
An assassin drifted closer to the General. "His father’s corpse should be rotting inside there as well."
The General tightened his massive, clawed grip around his enormous iron weapon. "I will personally mount the heads of the Hero and the boy on the same spike."
The demons broke formation and descended rapidly into the village.
They executed a flawless tactical perimeter around the house. Four Assassin Demons remained outside, melting into the shadows to cut off any potential escape routes. The remaining six assassins stacked up silently near the front entrance. The Orc General approached slowly up the main dirt path, acting as the heavy breach.
The six assassins landed perfectly silently on the wooden porch. The lead demon reached out with a clawed finger and slowly pushed the front door.
It swung inward on creaking hinges.
The assassins slipped inside the dark hallway, their cursed daggers raised, expecting to find the smell of fear. They expected panic. They expected to find a wounded, terrified human boy cowering over the fresh corpse of his father.
Instead... they froze completely.
As their red eyes adjusted to the dim light, they saw Kōya.
He was sitting perfectly calmly, cross-legged, in the dead center of the dining table. The pristine remains of a meal sat neatly pushed to the side. A small dagger rested casually behind him.
And an absolutely enormous, impossibly radiant golden sword had been driven vertically straight through the heavy oak table.
Kōya’s left hand rested lightly on the glowing hilt. His head was lowered, his dark hair casting shadows over his eyes. He looked entirely, terrifyingly peaceful.
One of the Assassin Demons tilted its head, its mandibles clicking in profound confusion. "What is he doing?"
Another stared exclusively at the massive weapon, a primal fear creeping into its dead heart. "That sword... that’s..."
Kōya slowly lifted his head. His eyes opened.
The demons immediately felt it. A suffocating, apocalyptic pressure.
At first, it was faint, like a drop in atmospheric pressure before a hurricane. Then, it aggressively expanded. The very air inside the small wooden house became impossibly heavy, crushing the oxygen from their lungs.
Kōya’s dark, suffocating demonic aura began bleeding out from his body, filling the room with absolute malice.
The elite assassins stiffened, paralyzed by the sheer weight of the killing intent. "What in the hell is this?"
The Hero’s Sword suddenly flashed brilliantly.
Pure, violent golden energy erupted from Kōya’s core, perfectly synchronized with the dark pressure. A massive, concussive blast of localized holy magic exploded outward from the center of the house.
BOOM!
The shockwave tore the front of the house apart, ripping the doorway and windows out of their frames. The six assassins were caught in the blast and thrown violently backward, tumbling out into the muddy yard.
Outside, the lead Orc General was just stepping onto the porch. He raised his massive weapon to shield his eyes from the blinding light. "What the—"
Kōya moved.
His left hand tightened securely around the hilt of the Hero’s Sword. Blinding golden light exploded aggressively across the length of the broad blade. He ripped it free from the wood.
The heavy sword screamed through the air.
A gigantic, crescent-shaped slash of pure golden energy tore outward through the shattered doorway, illuminating the entire village.
The Orc General had barely enough time to raise his thick iron sword in a desperate block.
The golden slash passed completely through the iron, through the General’s thick armor, and ultimately through his body, continuing cleanly out into the night sky.
Absolute silence fell over the yard.
Then, a perfectly straight line of black blood appeared down the dead center of the General’s torso.
The Orc General’s massive body slowly, sickeningly split cleanly into two perfectly symmetrical halves. Both halves collapsed heavily in opposite directions, hitting the mud with a wet thud. A thick cloud of dust and blood erupted across the ground.
The six bruised assassins scrambling to their feet in the yard stared at the bisected General in absolute, unadulterated horror.
One of them whispered, its voice trembling. "Who..."
Another swallowed hard, stepping backward. "Who the hell is this kid?"
Kōya remained sitting calmly on the edge of the shattered dining table. His dark eyes were cold, calculating, and empty of mercy. The Hero’s Sword continued glowing faintly in his left hand, eager for blood.
The assassins exchanged terrified, desperate glances. Then, survival instincts took over. They attacked.
All six elite demons moved simultaneously, executing a flawless, coordinated strike. Each assassin drew two cursed daggers, dripping with lethal poison.
Twelve blades. Twelve instantaneous points of death converging on a single target in a confined space.
They attacked from every conceivable angle.
Kōya remained perfectly still on the table.
The poisoned daggers closed the distance in a fraction of a second.
