Chapter 2697: Chapter 2701: In the End, It’s All Tragedy

Lo Mingze turned his head, avoiding Gu Junzhu’s gaze, and said coldly, "I don’t care about him, I care about the promise I made to my sister! I promised my sister I’d raise him well and bring him up to adulthood."

"But you handed Huo Zhongqi over to Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi. Isn’t that going back on your word to your sister?" Ye Xingbei looked at him with a complicated expression. "You know Huo Zhongqi’s true identity, but Huo Zhongqi doesn’t, and Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi don’t either."

"However much of a beast Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi may be, when they believe Huo Zhongqi is their biological son, the love they give him is real." ℴ

"Huo Zhongqi believes Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi are his biological parents; his feelings for them are also sincere and deep."

"When he grows up and you tell him that the parents who love him deeply, and whom he loves deeply, are actually the enemies who killed his birth mother, how is he supposed to bear that?"

"You call this raising him well and bringing him up to adulthood?"

"Don’t you think what you’re doing is extremely cruel?"

"If I don’t do this, you really think he can grow up safely?" Lo Mingze looked at her and gave a cold, mocking laugh. "Easy for you to stand there and talk big when it doesn’t cost you anything!"

"Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi are rich and powerful. They know my relationship with my sister. I don’t even have a girlfriend. If I’d been the one raising Huo Zhongqi, you think they’re idiots? You think they wouldn’t guess whose child Huo Zhongqi is?"

"If they guessed whose child Huo Zhongqi is, do you think Huo Zhongqi would have any chance of staying alive?"

"Setting Huo Qihang aside, Zang Jiayi alone would never allow Huo Zhongqi to live in this world."

"If I didn’t hand Huo Zhongqi over to Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi to raise, and I myself couldn’t raise him, then I could only abandon him. Do you think if I abandoned Huo Zhongqi, he’d be able to grow up safely?"

"By giving Huo Zhongqi to Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi, at least before he learns the truth about his birth, he can live the best life possible."

"He can receive his parents’ love and grow up in a good environment."

"As for what comes later... If I tell him the truth when he’s thirty, he can be happy for thirty years. If I tell him when he’s forty, he can be happy for forty years. And if one day I die unexpectedly before I can say anything, then he can be happy his whole life."

He let out a cold laugh. "But it seems, after all, he’s Huo Qihang’s seed. He doesn’t have that kind of luck. I hadn’t said a word yet, and he exposed himself first."

"No," Ye Xingbei murmured, "it being exposed now is Qiqi’s good fortune."

After Huo Zhongqi learned the truth, he immediately went through the incident where Huo Qihang wanted to dig out his heart. The feelings Huo Zhongqi had for Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi are already almost gone.

Yes, he’s in pain right now.

But the pain he feels now will only last for a while.

If he had to wait until he was grown before learning all the filthy things Huo Qihang and Zang Jiayi had done...

If he had to find out that the parents he loved so deeply were actually the enemies who killed his birth mother...

Then he would suffer for the rest of his life.

"It doesn’t matter," Lo Mingze’s lips curled into a mocking smile as he said coldly, "from the day Huo Qihang forced himself on my sister, got her pregnant, and then refused to take responsibility, no matter how this played out, it was always going to end in tragedy!"

"Either it’s a tragedy for Huo Qihang, Zang Jiayi, and their son, or it’s a tragedy for Huo Zhongqi!"

"A win–win ending? That was never on the table!"

Ye Xingbei fell silent.
