Death… And Me
Chapter 4573: Conclusions
’Did you see something?’ Luxa asked.
"Yes," Rean confirmed. "It went like this..."
He then explained everything he and Roan had seen through the History Echo, going over the important fragments in order. He described the strange facility in the Great Void, the experiments that had apparently produced the Eternal Day Fox and Eternal Night Raven, the older pair’s ability to interact with the Goslau Great Void Echo, and finally the desperate escape that ended with Luxa’s Womb falling into the ruins where the twins eventually found it.
Luxa went silent for a moment, clearly surprised to learn that she truly hadn’t been born in the Celestial Plane. Learning that she had actually originated somewhere in the Great Void, and that there had apparently been an entire history behind her existence, was naturally difficult to process. ’There are so many things I wish to ask...’
Roan could understand how she felt. "In your case, it seems that old Fox somehow managed to send you to the Celestial Plane."
Rean nodded. "The same goes for Lunelle. Actually, the fact that Lunelle’s Womb was used as an intermediary for Woster to access the Goslau Great Void Echo makes a lot more sense now. It would be strange if her Womb had no connection to the Goslau Great Void at all, yet somehow allowed such a bridge between the two places to exist."
Roan and the others agreed with Rean. They still didn’t know exactly how the Womb had ended up in Woster, but at least they now understood why it could serve as a bridge.
"Still... the Goslau Great Void Echo, huh?" Kentucky said. "Doesn’t that mean they could possibly use their own Great Void Echo somehow? Lunelle’s Womb made it possible with the ancient array that was in place, after all."
Luxa’s eyes immediately lit up. ’Then I can get stronger! Yes!’
Rean couldn’t help but laugh. "Hahaha! Well, for that, you will have to figure out how to tap into your Great Void Echo. Can you feel it at all?"
Luxa’s excitement died as quickly as it had appeared. ’I can’t... Rean, can you help?’
Rean shrugged with a helpless smile. "If I knew how to do it, I would have told you already. Sorry, but we’re clueless here. Our own Vinx Great Void Echo is only accessible because of the special circumstances surrounding what happened back when we lived in our Great Void."
The twins had already encountered enough mysteries surrounding the Echo to know better than to assume that simply knowing about its existence meant they could use it.
’I don’t like it! I will try!’ Luxa declared, determination returning to her eyes.
The twins’ group certainly wouldn’t stop her from trying. "Then go ahead. Who knows? Perhaps there really is a way to do it without the help of arrays. In fact, that’s your only choice right now, since none of us knows what kind of array was used in the first place."
Celis couldn’t help but look at Lunelle, who was perched on Roan’s shoulder. "Now that I think about it, you should have used the History Echo on Lunelle instead. She obviously went through a lot more after her Womb reached the Celestial Plane compared to Luxa."
"We aren’t sure about that," Roan pointed out. "The History Echo only shows fragments of the target’s past. For all we know, Luxa’s Womb might have gone through many other things that we didn’t see, either because they weren’t included in the fragments or because the system simply didn’t show them."
"We’d better leave it for now," Kentucky suggested. "It cost 50 Orb Points to see Luxa’s History Echo. If you use it on Lunelle as well, that’s another 50 Orb Points. We all know that Orb Points are far too important to spend on just anything."
Celis had to agree with Kentucky. "Indeed... forget what I said. At least we now have a good idea why the Thousand-Script Race was so interested in Luxa and Lunelle. It does look like having both of them can improve one’s cultivation speed."
Rean looked at Roan. "It does seem similar to our own power, doesn’t it? It just has a different purpose."
Roan agreed. "Yes, especially back on the Sunkan Planet where we reincarnated. In fact, we might still have this kind of influence on the regions where we live right now. It’s just that it takes a very long time for others to notice the difference."
Rean and Roan’s existence had always affected the balance of Yin and Yang in their surroundings, causing subtle changes in the future development of those places. For example, if they stayed in a single location for a long time, more talented newborns would eventually begin to appear. It wasn’t an obvious change that could be noticed after a few years, either. The effect accumulated slowly over a much longer period, making it nearly impossible for ordinary cultivators to associate it with the twins.
Another point worth mentioning was that this had nothing to do with the system’s Destiny Attraction ability. It was a separate power entirely.
Of course, the changes took far longer than the twins were accustomed to staying in a single place. Besides, that was something that had happened back in the Vinx Great Void, and they weren’t sure whether they still had the same effect in the Celestial Plane. The laws and environment here were fundamentally different.
Even if they did, they didn’t really care too much about it. So what if more talented cultivators were born in a certain place? So what if the region developed faster? The twins would be long gone before those newborns grew up and started making a name for themselves.
Nonetheless, the effect they had on the balance of Yin and Yang reminded them of the Old Fox and Raven.
Celis, who was extremely interested in the possibility of faster cultivation, immediately asked, ’Sister Orb, can you tell if there is any difference in our cultivation speed with those two here?’
[Hm...]
Sister Orb went silent for a moment as she analyzed their bodies more deeply.
[I can’t really detect anything different. But then again, there are still a lot of things we don’t know.]
She continued, [First of all, Rean and Roan saw many cultivators cultivating near the Old Fox and Raven through the History Echo. However, does that necessarily mean their cultivation was faster? Perhaps the Old Fox and Raven caused some other effect that had nothing to do with cultivation speed.]
[Or perhaps they did have an effect on cultivation speed, but you need to be a member of the Thousand-Script Race for it to work. After all, it was the research and experiments of the Thousand-Script Race that gave birth to Luxa and Lunelle. It stands to reason that the Fox and Raven might only have an effect on their own race.]
[Last but not least, perhaps the Old Fox and Raven never had any effect on the cultivators at all. Once again, the fragments only showed cultivators cultivating near them. Who is to say that they were cultivating there because of the Old Fox and Raven? It could simply be that the Old Fox and Raven were using the same location to cultivate alongside the Thousand-Script Race, with no special side effects involved.]
Sister Orb’s explanation left everyone thinking. The History Echo had given them enough information to raise the question, but not nearly enough to provide an answer. They would need either a more complete history, direct experimentation, or perhaps information from the Thousand-Script Race itself before they could understand what the two creatures truly did.
"There has to be some effect," Roan said, narrowing his eyes. "Otherwise, the Natak Region wouldn’t look so eager to get these two."
Everyone went silent again.
There were too many questions and far too few answers. Even after using the History Echo, they had learned more about Luxa and Lunelle while simultaneously creating even more mysteries surrounding their origins.
In the end, Roan shook his head. "Let’s forget about this for now. Instead, we should be careful with these two. Depending on how important they are to Natak, things might get a little out of hand in the future."
"Understood!" Everyone agreed.
Roan then turned his attention back to the system. "Let’s check what new upgrades were added."
