Death… And Me
Chapter 4521: Wings on the Back
Nighttime arrived, and the test in the Rosvelt Sect was finally taking place. Kentucky was only one of many other Aura Gods participating, with quite a few cultivators at the same Peak Stage as him. Once again, the experts were separated into different groups according to their natural abilities. Demon Birds like Kentucky, as well as other naturally flight-capable races, were placed together for the aerial portion of the test.
Of course, the other Aura Gods had a significant advantage. They were completely adapted to the Godly Pressure in Woster, whereas Kentucky was only around seventy percent adapted, which naturally weakened his overall power.
Fortunately, Kentucky, Rean, Roan, Celis, and Lukay all had Roan’s Anti-Godly Pressure Pills. If there was really a need to use them, they would be able to unleash their true strength for around ten seconds before the pill’s effect disappeared.
—
A Zone God Demon Bird approached Kentucky’s group and looked over all the cultivators under his responsibility. "Oh! Only five new faces? That’s quite rare."
Kentucky was taken aback. Obviously, he was one of those new faces. However, counting him, there were still more than two hundred cultivators in his group. ’Does that mean all the rest have tried before?’
He was right. Truth be told, there was no limit to the number of attempts one could make to join Rosvelt. As long as they could pay the testing fee, they were allowed to try again. Considering how everyone wanted to join the Rosvelt Sect, many cultivators returned time and time again after failing their previous attempts. There were only five cultivators in Kentucky’s group participating for the first time, while everyone else had already tried to enter the sect at least once. Some even tried tens of times.
"For the few new faces who don’t know, I’m Kabriu, an Ironfeather Condor." Kabriu then changed into his true form, revealing a massive body covered in metallic feathers that reflected the light from the surrounding arrays. Kentucky had his own Blade Feathers, but they only became sharp enough to function as blades when Kentucky deliberately activated them. Otherwise, they looked and felt pretty much like normal feathers.
Kabriu looked over the group once more before continuing. "Let’s see what we will do this time..." He paused and shrugged. "Oh, whatever."
He then took flight, distancing himself from the other groups that were conducting their own tests. Once he was at a suitable distance, he turned around and faced the more than two hundred cultivators waiting below.
"Your objective is very simple: inflict an injury on me. However you do it doesn’t matter. I will not fight back, and I won’t leave this area either. That’s basically it. You have one hour. You can start."
Everyone was taken aback.
Many there knew that Kabriu was a Late Stage Zone God, while everyone else was only at the Aura God level. How were they supposed to injure someone at such a higher cultivation realm? It felt more like Kabriu was deliberately making the test impossible.
However, a Spirit suddenly spoke up from among the group. "He said we can do it however we want, and he also said he won’t leave this area. There are over two hundred of us here. I refuse to believe that we can’t pin him down if we work together."
The various experts immediately began to regain their confidence. Above all, Kabriu had explicitly stated that he wouldn’t fight back. In a certain way, that made the test relatively safe, even if the objective itself was extremely difficult.
"Yes, let’s do it!"
"Everyone, spread out and try to surround him!"
"I’ll cover below!"
"I’ll take him from above!"
The various experts immediately flew together, spreading out through the sky and attempting to land a hit on Kabriu from every possible direction. For a moment, the scene was rather impressive. More than two hundred cultivators moved simultaneously, forming a huge net of attacks around the Ironfeather Condor.
The sky soon became a dazzling show of colors, with abilities of various elements flying everywhere as the cultivators tried to predict Kabriu’s movements. Lightning, flames, blades of wind, water, earth, spiritual attacks, and countless other techniques filled the surrounding sky. Yet none of them managed to land a meaningful hit. At most, a few attacks grazed Kabriu’s feathers, but they weren’t remotely powerful enough to break through his defenses.
Kabriu faintly smiled and began to gain more altitude. He had said that he wouldn’t leave the area, but altitude had never been part of the agreement. As long as he remained within the designated region, he could fly as high as he wanted. It seemed that he was having quite a lot of fun watching the cultivators desperately try to catch him.
Kentucky watched the scene from below and was quite impressed with Kabriu. ’His defense being high was already expected, but his speed is just as impressive.’
Kabriu moved up, down, right, and left, changing direction whenever necessary. The cultivators repeatedly attempted to surround him, only for their formations to collapse as soon as Kabriu changed direction. It didn’t matter if they were Demon Birds, Devil Birds, Angel Birds, Spirits, or Essences; none of them could truly catch him.
Time continued to pass, and after only twenty minutes, the first cultivators began returning to the ground. They landed while gasping for breath, their expressions showing how defeated they felt.
All of them could fly without relying on Godly Energy, but that didn’t mean flying required no effort. Using their natural flight capabilities alone was one thing, but once they began adding Godly Energy or Celestial Energy to increase their speed and power, their stamina was consumed just as quickly.
Kentucky smiled as he watched several more cultivators descend. ’He’s doing it on purpose.’
Kentucky was absolutely right. Kabriu had given them one hour, but he had never intended to let them use the full hour. He wanted to make them give up before even thirty minutes had passed.
Entering the Rosvelt Sect was supposed to be difficult, and Kabriu clearly intended to live up to the sect’s recruitment standards. If these cultivators couldn’t even endure a few minutes of failed attempts against an opponent who wasn’t fighting back, they had no business joining the strongest organization in Woster.
Eventually, there were no more than ten cultivators still flying. Even those ten were far from their peak condition, their breathing becoming increasingly heavy as they struggled to maintain their speed. As for the rest, they had already returned to the ground and were resting, but there was no way they could recover completely before the test ended.
Kabriu was now flying leisurely near the ground, completely ignoring the ten cultivators still struggling in the air. If more than two hundred cultivators working together couldn’t catch him, what chance did ten exhausted cultivators have?
"Is that all?" Kabriu asked, his voice carrying through the area. "What do you think my sect is? Just some piece of shit organization that accepts anyone? All you had to do was inflict a tiny injury on me. That’s it! I have the cultivation advantage, but I’m locked down to this area and can’t retaliate. Aren’t you ashamed of yourselves?"
The remaining cultivators gritted their teeth and continued trying, but their movements were becoming increasingly sluggish. Kabriu shook his head, clearly disappointed. He had expected at least a few cultivators to demonstrate enough skill to make him take the test seriously.
Then, something caught his attention.
On the ground below, there was a young man casually looking at him with a smile. The black-and-white feathers were enough to prove that he was a Demon Bird in humanoid form. Yet Kabriu was certain that the young man hadn’t even attempted to participate.
Kabriu narrowed his eyes. "You don’t even have the courage to try?" he called out. "You’re even worse than the others."
Naturally, the young man was none other than Kentucky.
Kentucky blinked and looked around as if only now realizing that Kabriu was speaking to him. "Hum? Oh! Sorry, I was enjoying the show. Is it okay if I try it out now?"
Kabriu and the remaining cultivators were taken aback.
Just what had this guy been waiting for?
The other cultivators looked at Kentucky with expressions ranging from disbelief to irritation. They had spent twenty minutes desperately trying to catch Kabriu, while this guy had simply stood on the ground and watched the entire spectacle as if it were entertainment.
Kabriu, however, soon noticed something different.
Kentucky’s humanoid form... had wings on his back.
