Chapter 395: Chapter 216: Six Yuan Turbidity, Celestial Demon Child
The mist scattered, and the sky’s light shone straight down.
Atop the Magic Altar, the Daoist was bathed in light, his expression hidden. He casually raised a hand and pointed. A talisman, inscribed with an edict from the Tai Su Orthodox Sect, fluttered out to hover before the Array.
Any cultivator whose Spiritual Sense made contact with it felt a thunderous tremor in their ears and heart—
Demon Sect cultivators shall not approach. Violators will be annihilated!
What arrogance! What ruthlessness! What dominance... And what style!
Gongyang Daoist gazed up thousands of feet, his very soul trembling with infinite reverence.
"You two, this way please." A streak of light shot over, revealing an aloof Daoist in a Tai Su Daoist Robe. He gestured toward the base of the Magic Altar. "Were you two aware," he asked coolly, "that a Demon Sect cultivator was hiding on your vessel?"
Daoist Tan shuddered violently, his eyes flying open. "I didn’t know! I had no idea!" he stammered. "That demon’s cultivation is profound. He was hiding on my ship, and I had no way of detecting him! Please, see the truth of it, Daoist!"
The Tai Su Disciple glanced at him, then shifted his gaze to Gongyang Daoist.
Gongyang Daoist cupped his hands with a calm and respectful air. "To be honest, Daoist," he replied, "I only departed from the South Sea Coast at 7:00 AM today. On the journey, I noticed the ship was moving unexpectedly fast. We reached the Treasure Continent in less than half a day. It was likely due to the Demon Cultivator."
"Exactly, exactly," Daoist Tan hastily added. "Though we are not disciples of an orthodox sect, we are Profound Sect cultivators. We would never collude with the Demon Sect..."
"Calm yourselves," the Tai Su Disciple said mysteriously. "The Tai Su Orthodox Sect’s supreme treasure, the Immortal Mirror, is hanging high above. It reveals Profound Demon Cultivators in a single flash."
"If either of you possessed demonic techniques, you’d have been turned to ash by now."
Upon hearing this, Daoist Tan broke out in a cold sweat. He didn’t know whether to feel relieved or terrified. The sensation of having his life hang by a thread was clearly not a pleasant one to endure.
...
「Thousands of miles away, on a solitary island.」
A tall, powerfully built man wearing a featureless mask stood on a cliff’s edge. Although his eyes were hidden, he seemed to gaze far into the distance, toward Nanzhan.
The distance was vast, yet to him, it was but a stone’s throw away. He could even hear Xuzhuang’s very words.
"’Violators will be annihilated.’ A fine ’violators will be annihilated’ indeed." After a moment, the masked man sneered. "The Tai Su Orthodox Sect is just as domineering as they say."
Behind him, a bare-chested Wandering Taoist sat casually on a rock, with several elders standing in attendance behind him.
The Wandering Taoist tilted his head to the sky. "Chengxuan has descended upon the world... is this the ’millennial immortal style’ they speak of?"
"So he’s the one standing guard there. This won’t be easy to handle."
He seemed to be muttering to himself and didn’t wait for the masked man’s reply, instead asking someone behind him, "Elder Feng, has any news come in?"
Nanzhan Treasure Continent is a focal point of the world’s spiritual energy, accumulated over ten thousand years. If the Profound Sects were truly allowed to monopolize it, it would likely halt the trend of our demon sects rising and their profound sects declining.
Therefore, before 7:00 AM today, the four great Demon Sects had all sent out edicts, dispatching their members to the South Sea without delay.
Elder Feng cupped his hands. "Saint Child, according to the messages I’ve received..."
He pointed toward the distant Array gate and said, "Nanzhan Treasure Continent is now completely surrounded by an Array set up by the Tai Su Orthodox Sect. There are a total of eight Array gates."
"Aside from this ’Gate of Life,’ all other gates are sealed shut. Some of our allies have already probed them. They are all heavily fortified by Tai Su Sect members. The defenses are not only impregnable, but are also supported by a great array with the power to trap and kill."
"As expected." The Wandering Taoist’s brow furrowed. "It seems this place is not only a convenient gate opened by the Tai Su Orthodox Sect for Profound Sect cultivators, but also the true point of conflict with our Demon Sect. No wonder they sent Xuzhuang to stand guard."
The Tai Su Orthodox Sect’s arrangement was grand and undisguised; anyone could see its meaning.
While the Gate of Life may not be supported by a grand array like the others, the forces the Tai Su Sect has positioned here are undoubtedly substantial.
"Xuzhuang alone is thorny enough," the Wandering Taoist said to himself. "We must wait for more of our allies to gather before we decide on a course of action."
"Hmph." The masked man suddenly turned around and asked coolly, "Why diminish our own morale just to boost their prestige?"
The Wandering Taoist gave a dry laugh and, without explaining, retorted, "Senior Brother, you sent Elder Liu to probe them. Did you not see the outcome?"
The masked man remained unbothered. "A worthless Nascent Soul First Layer," he said coolly. "He wouldn’t have survived a single move from me, either."
"In that case, Senior Brother may do as he pleases," the Wandering Taoist said. "Or perhaps, after our allies gather, you can serve as the Array Vanguard and clash with Xuzhuang."
"And why couldn’t I?" the masked man sneered.
The Wandering Taoist just smiled and nodded, saying no more. After waiting a moment, his expression suddenly shifted.
The two of them looked up at the exact same time. They saw a thick cloud descend, from which emerged eleven Nascent Soul Cultivators of varying cultivation levels. They were dressed differently and didn’t seem to belong to any particular faction.
The Wandering Taoist’s expression sank slightly, and he spat out two words: "Julu Form."
As he spoke, the Nascent Soul Cultivators slowly parted. A Daoist in a blue robe emerged from behind them, hands clasped behind his back. He smiled. "This junior, He Fei, greets Senior Brother Beilan and Senior Brother Faceless."
Beilan said flatly, "Detention. You’ve already possessed Junior Brother He’s body and soul, so why insist on using his name?"
Detention seemed unconcerned. He smiled. "The Zhenren instructed me not to reveal anything in front of the ordinary disciples. I must maintain a consistent appearance."
Beilan knew Detention was speaking the truth and said no more, but his gaze turned colder.
He felt no particular brotherly affection for He Fei, but having a terrifying entity nearby who could possess a person’s body and soul at will was naturally unsettling.
With his mask hiding his expression, Faceless’s emotions were impossible to read. Yet, his voice was surprisingly mild. "Junior Brother, how long has it been since Zhong Shenxiu slaughtered every last one of your avatars? And you’ve already gathered so many more."
