Chapter 1245: Chapter 1245: Not Just Full, Almost Ready to Throw Up

Right now, Ye Huasong is looking at Guo Wenbo as if he’s seeing a crafty businessman.

She, like the students, always thought Guo Wenbo was a very serious person.

Just that she wasn’t as afraid of him as the students were.

Never knew that Guo Wenbo could be so cunning.

Sending Ye Fei to audit every class, isn’t that just using her as a tool?

"Didn’t you say before that you wanted Ye Fei to skip a grade directly?" Ye Huasong asked.

Originally, Guo Wenbo thought Ye Fei skipping to the second year was already a bit slow, but he was afraid she wouldn’t agree, so he planned to let her audit for ten days or so first.

Why the sudden change of heart?

"Cough!" Guo Wenbo cleared his throat, "I just felt that even if Ye Fei moved up to the fourth grade now, it wouldn’t be much help. She might as well experience each class, this way it won’t delay her studies and won’t delay her skipping a grade either, what’s not to like?"

Ye Huasong: "..."

Actually daring to use Ye Fei as a tool person, Ye Huasong hadn’t expected Guo Wenbo to be so bold.

Over here, everyone was deep into culinary experiments.

Tian Pengpo chose beer stew.

Ye Fei chose to modify Japanese hotpot into a soup, which was essentially the same thing.

For now, it’s temporarily named hotpot soup.

Meanwhile, Xu Aoliang decided to make clam soup.

Each of them tried several times, always feeling something was missing.

Especially Ye Fei, she used chicken bones to make the broth, there was umami, but it felt a bit flat, lacking layers.

"What’s missing?" Ye Fei frowned, "This flavor..."

She felt she knew the missing flavor, but just couldn’t recall.

"I’ll head to the pantry." Ye Fei said.

Ye Fei went to the pantry, first making a round in the frozen section.

In the frozen section, there were all kinds of meat, both with and without bones, and even flash-frozen deep-sea seafood.

But after taking a round, she realized the pantry had a broader selection than she had initially imagined when thinking in the practice room.

The selection here was ample, indeed including things she hadn’t considered.

However, upon seeing the ingredients, her mind and taste buds instinctively conjured up the broth flavor and its fusion with chicken soup.

Ye Fei shook her head, still not right.

And so, she continued on to the dried goods section.

The dried goods section was meticulously divided into different sub-sections.

There was the preserved goods section, the dried vegetables section, and the dried seafood and river food section.

No need to mention preserved goods, even sun-dried vegetables have a unique flavor compared to fresh ones.

Ye Fei picked up some dried beans and sniffed, then shook her head.

Dried potato slices, dried radish, all not right.

Ye Fei moved on to the dried seafood section.

She suddenly stopped; the various dried seafood were mixed together, creating a messy blend of aromas.

But Ye Fei was certain that this was where the right flavor lay.

Ye Fei looked at things one by one, picking them up to sniff.

When she picked up a small piece of dried bonito fish, after smelling it, she immediately realized this was the flavor she’d been seeking!

No wonder she felt she should recognize this flavor but couldn’t recall it earlier.

Bonito is used in many aspects of Japanese cuisine.

It’s a common ingredient in miso soup, takoyaki, and even the broth for oden.

Ye Fei chose the small dried bonito fish and went back.

She hadn’t added other ingredients to the broth yet, she first simmered just the broth and tasted it, nodding unconsciously.

Now the taste was right.

The rich and sweet chicken broth complemented by the umami of the dried bonito fish, even offering a hint of smoky flavor.

The processed bonito fish had lost its fishy taste, leaving only the freshness and a slight smoky aroma.

Next, Ye Fei prepared a few different types of mushrooms.

Each was individually brewed into a small amount of soup, one small bowl at a time.

She also divided the main broth into several bowls.

Each bowl of broth was mixed with a different mushroom soup to observe the flavors.

She also tried combining different mushrooms, brewing mushroom soup again, and mixing it with the bonito chicken broth to confirm the flavor.

During the afternoon, Ye Fei didn’t do much else, just tasting various soups until she was full.

Not only was she full, but she was also about to throw up.

She felt embarrassed to ask others to taste for her.

Because everyone was busy with their culinary experiments, and no one had room left in their stomachs to spare.

It finally came time to decide who would take the stage tomorrow.

Guo Wenbo and Ye Huasong came in.

The practice room was filled with the aroma of cooking.

This happened to be right around dinnertime.

The two of them estimated that after eating through this round, they’d be full enough to skip dinner altogether.

But the contestants were already feeling queasy.

The aroma that filled the room no longer tempted their appetites in the slightest.

The more they smelled it, the more cloying it felt, prompting them to rush out for fresh air.

In fact, they had already been outside several times in between, just to breathe some fresh air.

But every time they came back in and smelled the cooking, they wanted to throw up immediately.

Eventually, they just stayed inside, trying to endure without going outside again.

Otherwise, it would feel worse going out and coming back repeatedly.

After Guo Wenbo and Ye Huasong tasted one by one, they didn’t play coy.

Considering their close relationships, there was no need for pretense, nor worry about those not chosen feeling slighted, disrupting their friendships.

"Ye Fei, Tian Pengpo, Xu Aoliang, you three will be on stage tomorrow," Guo Wenbo announced.

"I see you’re about ready to throw up from the smell; you’re dismissed now. Remember to gather here promptly at 9 in the morning. Others can come a bit later, but Ye Fei, Tian Pengpo, and Xu Aoliang, since you’re competing tomorrow, you mustn’t be late."

"Yes," everyone promised, then quickly left the practice room.

They didn’t even bother cleaning up, as they couldn’t stand the smell anymore.

Ye Fei had been planning, just to be safe, to stay in the student dorm tonight.

Unexpectedly, Zhao Gushen had already picked up Xiao Mo and was waiting for her at the door.

In this situation, Ye Fei couldn’t say anything.

She couldn’t possibly let the father and son return by themselves.

So, she got in the car with them.

In the car, Ye Fei told Zhao Gushen about the competition tomorrow: "So, I have to leave early tomorrow. You don’t need to come with me; I’ll be leaving really early."

"Okay," Zhao Gushen nodded, "I have an important meeting tomorrow, otherwise I’d come with you to watch your competition."

"You’ve seen my competitions before, there’s no need to come specially," Ye Fei laughed.

"Then I’ll get someone to livestream it or record a video, and I’ll watch it after work," Zhao Gushen began planning.

"That works too," Ye Fei nodded, "but I won’t be able to cook dinner tonight."

"Tired?" However, he wasn’t asking Ye Fei to cook; Ye Fei just felt that since she cooked well herself, there was no need to let the father and son eat the food prepared by the nanny.
