Daddy, Come Home For Dinner!
Chapter 1091: Truly a Divine Assist
Chapter 1091: Chapter 1091: Truly a Divine Assist
Ye Fei poked Li Xiaoyun’s arm: "Scoot over a bit, let me sit here. Your dad will want to sit here later too. If you take the middle, where will we sit?"
Li Xiaoyun glanced around.
Looking quite innocent.
There’s plenty of space on both sides, surely Mrs. Li and Mr. Li can sit comfortably.
Zhao Dingli seized the opportunity and quickly stood up, saying, "How can I let you and Uncle sit on chairs? You should sit on the sofa, I’ll take the chair."
"That’s not right, that’s not right. You are guests, how can I let you sit on chairs?" Mrs. Li immediately rejected.
"But you’re the elder ones. I can’t just relax on the sofa, can I?" Zhao Dingli added.
He held Mrs. Li’s shoulder and guided her to the sofa: "Please, just sit on the sofa; that way I’ll feel more at ease."
Only after getting Mrs. Li settled on the sofa did Zhao Dingli quickly shift the chair beside Li Xiaoyun.
Although it wasn’t as close as the sofa, a bit of a pity.
But now, sitting next to Li Xiaoyun, he felt quite like part of the family.
Zhao Dingli thought this was nice.
A while later, Mr. Li returned.
Mr. Li came in and first went to wash his hands.
After tidying up, he entered the living room.
Hey?
Why is Zhao Dingli sitting on a chair, not the sofa?
Dining chairs aren’t as comfy as sofas and aren’t as formal.
How can they let the guest sit there?
Just as Mr. Li was about to speak, Mrs. Li tugged him over.
"There’s still space, you can sit here." Mrs. Li said.
"But..." Mr. Li felt it wasn’t appropriate.
Mrs. Li quickly poked him quietly, saying, "This arrangement is quite nice. Otherwise, if we both sit on chairs, Dingli won’t feel settled. Besides, he and Xiaoyun get along well; it’s more comfortable for them to sit together."
Zhao Dingli thought, Mrs. Li is indeed a great help!
Absolutely not inferior to grandmas!
They should definitely introduce Mrs. Li to grandma.
Mr. Li had to give up his earlier thought, it wasn’t right to ask Mrs. Li what was going on.
"Oh, and we brought back some ingredients." Li Xiaoyun said.
"Why did you buy ingredients? We have plenty at home; I went to the market and got more today." Mrs. Li said.
Li Xiaoyun explained, "I plan to cook dinner for you tonight, so I followed the recipe and bought what I need from the supermarket."
"Why didn’t you mention earlier? Buying all these, won’t it be a waste?" Mrs. Li said.
"How come waste? It’s all food, good for daily meals. Besides, there are many of us today, seven in total." Li Xiaoyun included Xiao Mo in the count.
Even if Xiao Mo only eats half as much, it’s still six and a half.
"As for my skill level, I’m aware. I can cook three or four dishes, at most. The rest will need you." Li Xiaoyun said.
Mrs. Li laughed, "You do seem to know yourself well."
"Exactly, I have only cooked once, so I know my own skill level well." Li Xiaoyun said.
Upon hearing this, Mr. Li’s focus was quite different from Mrs. Li’s.
"You’ve cooked once before?" Mr. Li knew Li Xiaoyun well, "When did you become so diligent, cooking for yourself while living alone?"
They had no problem with Li Xiaoyun living alone.
Their sole concern was about Li Xiaoyun’s nutritional intake.
She’s too lazy to cook and doesn’t like to fire up the stove.
Always ordering takeout, often not eating on time.
This isn’t nutritious, bad for the stomach.
How could they not worry?
Now Li Xiaoyun claims she can cook? Unexpected.
Li Xiaoyun: "..."
Instinctively, she felt her first time cooking for Zhao Dingli shouldn’t be disclosed to her parents.
Knowing might upset them.
Especially Mr. Li, learning her first cooked meal didn’t go to her parents first but to Zhao Dingli.
Wouldn’t this lead to dissatisfaction with Zhao Dingli?
Thus, Li Xiaoyun just vaguely said, "Well... I thought if I’m planning to cook for you, I should practice firsthand. It has to taste good, otherwise serving a table full of burnt or poorly seasoned dishes would be bad."
Mr. Li found reason in this, so he didn’t question further.
After speaking, Li Xiaoyun swiftly turned to Zhao Dingli, winking.
Hinting there’s absolutely no intention of using Zhao Dingli as a guinea pig.
It was for her parents’ reassurance.
Zhao Dingli curled his lip, signaling her to relax.
Only then did Li Xiaoyun let out a breath.
Surprisingly, returning to her parents’ place felt akin to a battlefield, always needing vigilance.
"Tonight, let me and Xiaoyun prepare." Ye Fei said, "Every time before, it was always you preparing for us, godmother."
Ye Fei had long recognized Mr. and Mrs. Li as her godparents.
So despite years of evading parents.
The warmth of home felt greater than ever.
Previously, when Ye Fei visited, Mrs. Li felt for how Ye Fei’s job was cooking.
Constantly spending time in the kitchen.
So each time Ye Fei visited, she wasn’t allowed to be stuck in the kitchen.
Even passions need pauses from the constant doings, right?
Giving her some breathing room was good.
So each visit, Mrs. Li never lets her do anything.
Only occasionally, with new dishes Ye Fei wanted them to try, would Mrs. Li let her cook.
"Today, let’s consider it as daughters preparing a meal for their parents." Ye Fei said.
This touched Mrs. Li’s tears instantly.
Mrs. Li felt moved, her eyes reddening.
"Alright." Mrs. Li nodded and agreed with Ye Fei.
She hadn’t thought, even at her old age, she could gain another filial daughter.
As the time seemed right, Li Xiaoyun and Ye Fei headed to the kitchen to prepare the ingredients.
Li Xiaoyun handled the few dishes she had already learned.
The rest would be left to Ye Fei.
Ye Fei checked exactly what Mrs. Li bought and chose from there.
Ye Fei taught Li Xiaoyun simple, easy-to-make, yet delicious dishes.
One of them was a clam and vermicelli pot.
Though foil was available at home, dining inside didn’t need strict adherence to restaurant standards.
Thus, after consulting Ye Fei, they opted for a clay pot, which worked well.
First, soaking the vermicelli until soft, then evenly laying golden mushrooms at the pot’s base, followed by the second layer of vermicelli.
Finally, placing clams with clean sand at the top.
Mix chopped chili, minced garlic, and oyster sauce, drizzle with hot oil to make a sauce, and pour over the clams.
Add bean paste and fish-steaming soy sauce.
As these condiments were salty enough, no extra salt was added.
Then, add water and simmer gently, simple and quick.
Seeing Mrs. Li had purchased a furnace fish, Ye Fei decided to make steamed fish with it.
