Chapter 339: Chapter 207: A Show of Force
These few demons belonged to the Feather Division.
The Cyan Eagle Demon from before had been their companion.
"Cang Shui was only a Tier Two Demon. It’s not surprising he was killed when caught off guard."
The one speaking was the leader of these Feather Division demons. His human name was Cang Gou.
"But we must complete the mission the National Preceptor gave us. Since one of them can fly, we’ll have to change our strategy."
"What’s the plan?"
one of the demons asked.
"I’ll make a move myself this time. I’ll go snatch someone from the Da Xuan Envoy. As long as that flying fellow gives chase, I’ll lead him right here. You all lie in ambush and swarm him. Once we kill him, we can terrorize the rest of the Da Xuan Envoy as we please."
A glint of cunning shone in Cang Gou’s eyes as he spoke in a low voice.
"A brilliant plan, Lord Cang Gou!"
The other demons chimed in with praise.
None of them stopped to consider whether they could actually win a fight against him.
...
「The Da Xuan Envoy Camp.」
The Taiping Captains and soldiers were all on high alert. They formed a protective circle around Zhu Jiuyuan and the others, patrolling relentlessly.
The relaxed atmosphere from before was completely gone.
Everyone realized that all sorts of dangers could arise now that they had entered the wildlands.
Just because they were an official envoy didn’t mean the Demon Court would guarantee their safety.
To return to Da Xuan alive, every single one of them had to be on their utmost guard.
Su Mu took the Five Flames Heaven-Shaking Bow in hand. With his saber across his lap, he sat bolt upright in the middle of the camp.
The night passed without incident.
At dawn, the group set off once more.
Lv Lake led the way at the very front, a scornful look on its face.
’They think tightening their guard will solve everything?’
’Our goal is to turn you into paranoid wrecks. If we don’t scare you out of your wits, then we’re the incompetent ones.’
Lv Lake had already contacted Cang Gou and knew of his plan.
It had no objection.
Su Mu was not a key figure in these negotiations. On the contrary, this Vice Envoy was a nuisance who had even dared to threaten it before.
’Killing him would be perfect.’
’Without Su Mu, the Da Xuan Envoy is a toothless tiger, ripe for the slaughter!’
"Lord Su, up ahead is a stretch of land occupied by a group of demons that defy the Demon Court’s authority."
Lv Lake called out loudly. "If we run into them, don’t hold back, Lord Su.
"If you could wipe them all out, the Demon Court would even have to thank you."
"And how do you plan to thank us?"
Su Mu ignored it, but Xu Chongyuan spoke up with a chuckle. "It’s not like the Demon Court has anything valuable to offer. How about you send a few demons over to pull our carriages?"
Anger flashed across Lv Lake’s face. ’Use demons from our court to pull their carriages?’
’We’ll see if you live long enough to enjoy it!’
The carriages rumbled forward.
Suddenly, a black shadow dove from the sky, plunging toward the envoy’s caravan with lightning speed.
Panicked screams erupted from the crowd.
The shadow moved incredibly fast. By the time anyone saw it, it was already just a hundred feet above their heads.
It was moving so quickly that its massive, sharp claws were about to snatch someone from the envoy.
TWANG!
Just as the Taiping Captains and soldiers were drawing their bows and crossbows, the sound of a bowstring being released had already rung out.
A blood-red arrow, wreathed in five-colored flames, slammed into the black shadow with a BOOM.
A bloodcurdling shriek pierced the heavens.
The black shadow shot back up into the sky, desperately flapping its wings to extinguish the five-colored flames on its body.
At that moment, another blood-red arrow slammed into it.
The five-colored flames, which had been close to going out, flared up once more.
The black shadow tumbled through the air, wailing in agony.
Su Mu’s face was expressionless, his eyes devoid of any pity.
One blood-red arrow after another shot forth.
In just a few breaths’ time, he had already fired seven or eight blood-red arrows.
The wails from the sky grew fainter and fainter, until they finally fell silent.
A ball of five-colored fire plummeted from the sky. When it hit the ground, the flames finally died out, and the black shadow had been reduced to a pile of black ash.
Lv Lake’s eyes went wide, its breathing growing ragged.
’Dead?’
’Cang Gou... is dead?’
’He was shot down so pathetically before he could even get close to the Da Xuan Envoy?’
’Damn it!’
’Just how powerful is this Su Mu?’
’It was already strange enough that he could fly.’
’This time, he didn’t even bother to fly. He just lifted a finger and shot Cang Gou down with a few arrows?’
’Cang Shui last night was one thing. After all, Cang Shui was only a Tier Two Demon; it’s not surprising that Su Mu could kill him.’
’But Cang Gou is a Tier Three Demon!’
’A Profound Weapon. That bow in Su Mu’s hands must be a human’s Profound Weapon!’
’Only a human’s Profound Weapon could possess such power!’
Lv Lake thought to itself.
The Demon Court’s intelligence was simply lacking. If it were any of the major powers in Da Xuan, they would surely know that Su Mu possessed the Profound Weapon Five Flames Heaven-Shaking Bow.
Unless it was a Tier Four Demon, nothing could withstand the power of the Five Flames Heaven-Shaking Bow.
If the Demon Court had known this earlier, they never would have dreamed that sending a few demons from the Feather Division would be enough to trouble the Da Xuan Envoy.
Ordinary Taiping Captains were helpless against the demons of the Feather Division.
But in front of Su Mu, the Feather Division demons were no different from living targets.
Last night, Su Mu had been forced to reveal the existence of his Wind and Thunder Wings only because they had a hostage.
Today, Su Mu was prepared. For them to try a sneak attack now... wasn’t that just courting death?
’Do they really think Su Mu’s Perfection-level archery is just for show?’
"Continue on,"
Su Mu said flatly, as if he had just taken care of some trivial matter.
"Lord Lv, was that one of the demons you mentioned, the ones that defy the Demon Court’s authority?"
As the caravan started moving again, Su Mu spoke in a calm tone. "If you know where their nest is, I don’t mind doing you a small favor and exterminating all of them."
"You jest, Lord Su."
Lv Lake’s voice was a bit hoarse. "If I knew where their nest was, our Demon Court would have sent troops to wipe them out long ago.
"These fellows aren’t that strong, they’re just good at hiding. Otherwise, with the strength of our Demon Court, how could we possibly fail to deal with them?"
Lv Lake felt a bitter taste in its mouth. ’Even Cang Gou is dead!’
’Damn it, these people aren’t going to start looking down on our Demon Court, are they?’
’They must be thinking that if such a weak demon dares to defy the Demon Court, then the Demon Court can’t be all that powerful.’
Lv Lake desperately tried to save face, unwilling to let Su Mu and his people look down on the Demon Court.
"I say, Lord Lv, that demon just now should count as an enemy of your Demon Court, right?
"See, our Lord Su shot it down, which means he helped you solve a problem."
Xu Chongyuan sidled up, grinning slyly. "I remember you just said that your Demon Court would thank our Lord Su.
"So, Lord Lv, how do you plan to reward our Lord Su now?
"If you really don’t have anything valuable to offer, that’s fine too. We’ll just consider it helping out a poor brother."
Lv Lake was furious. ’Damn it, they really are looking down on our Demon Court!’
"What I said was *if* you could completely eliminate this group of demons who defy our court’s orders. Only one is dead so far,"
Lv Lake said, suppressing its anger.
"Are you saying that as long as we take care of this entire group of demons, your Demon Court will thank us?"
Su Mu said nonchalantly.
"And what if I am?"
Lv Lake retorted.
"If you are, then it’s simple."
A smile suddenly touched the corner of Su Mu’s lips. "Lord Lv, you’d better think hard about what you’re going to thank me with."
Before his words had even faded, a fierce wind suddenly howled.
Before Lv Lake could understand what Su Mu meant, it saw a pair of wings unfurl from Su Mu’s back.
With a single flap of his wings, Su Mu shot into the sky, becoming a tiny black dot that vanished over the horizon in the blink of an eye.
Lv Lake’s eyes widened. "No—"
it managed to force out a single word.
