Chapter 318 - 197: Charge
Chapter 318: Chapter 197: Charge
Su Mu hummed a little tune, his hands skillfully butchering the corpse of a Tier Four Demon.
There’s a saying about finding joy in suffering.
Su Mu didn’t feel any pain at all. He only felt joy.
That’s right, pure joy.
The slight pain from his Blood Body being devoured was completely bearable when faced with the flesh and blood of a Tier Four Demon.
Xu Chongyuan, Zhong Guizheng, and the others would never have imagined that Su Mu, whom they thought was in deep trouble, was actually having a much easier time than they were.
He was eating the meat of a Tier Four Demon, watching the Demon Court’s Demon Soldiers glare at him in fury but unable to do anything about it. The only thing he had to do was cast his Physical Divine Power Blood Body once every half-day.
He could replenish any lost Profound Yellow Blood just by eating a little more Tier Four Demon meat.
Besides, a single Tier Four Demon weighed several hundred pounds, and he already had three of them in front of him.
Su Mu expertly butchered the Tier Four Demon’s corpse, keeping the tender meat and tossing all the poorly located or bad-tasting cuts to the four-legged snake.
Such extravagance!
’If it doesn’t taste good, I don’t want it!’
Even so, Su Mu was already surrounded by piles of neatly cut demon meat, at least four or five hundred pounds of it.
Any more would be difficult to carry.
It wasn’t that Su Mu couldn’t carry the weight.
The weight itself was fine, but the sheer volume was too great. Carrying it on his back would be too cumbersome.
While chewing on a piece of roasted Tier Four Demon meat, Su Mu thought to himself, ’I’m getting a little tired of this. I wonder what a Tier Five Demon tastes like.’
Just then, the Demon Court’s Demon Soldiers suddenly parted to form a path.
A burly, Ox-headed Demon strode forward.
The Grand General of the Demon Court had finally arrived.
It stopped outside the fissure, its bovine eyes fixed on the four-legged snake.
"GURRRRAAAAAH!"
It finally let out a roar.
It was the language of demons, completely incomprehensible to Su Mu.
A grave expression appeared in the four-legged snake’s eyes, and a low growl rumbled from its throat.
They seemed to be communicating.
Su Mu’s heart leaped into his throat.
’This four-legged snake isn’t going to hand me over, is it?’
The two demons exchanged roars for a long while.
Suddenly, an expression of fury appeared on the Ox-headed Demon’s face.
And in turn, a monstrous ferocity erupted in the four-legged snake’s eyes.
RUMBLE!
Its body expanded rapidly, growing to a length of seventy or eighty feet in the blink of an eye.
Its slender form and the horn protruding from its forehead made it look fifty or sixty percent like a legendary Flood Dragon.
A grave expression appeared in the Ox-headed Demon’s eyes.
’To think this four-legged snake has gotten stronger!’
"Fine! I don’t want this human anymore!"
the Ox-headed Demon suddenly bellowed. "But if you dare to harm another one of my Demon Court’s Demon Soldiers, I swear I won’t let you off easy!"
The four-legged snake gave it a human-like look of contempt.
"Remember, your territory is only a thirty-li radius! If you dare step out of your domain to interfere with the Demon Court’s operations, then we will slay you, no matter the cost!"
The Ox-headed Demon let out an angry roar, then led its host of Demon Soldiers around the four-legged snake’s territory and headed toward Hujue Pass.
Su Mu’s heart sank.
’Several days have passed. I wonder if Xu Chongyuan and the others made it back to Hujue Pass with the news. Is Hujue Pass prepared to face the enemy?’
’Is there no one in Hujue Pass who can defeat the four-legged snake? Is that why no one has come to back me up?’
’Should I try to trick the four-legged snake into causing some trouble for the Demon Court?’
Su Mu stroked his chin, his gaze falling upon the now-shrunken four-legged snake as he pondered.
......
Several li outside the walls of Hujue Pass, a few people leaned against a pile of rubble, panting for breath.
"Are you really the Governor of the Hujue Pass Taiping Bureau? Because you’re acting like an impostor."
Xu Chongyuan pulled the arrow out of his left arm, grimacing in pain.
He complained as he poured Golden Sore Medicine onto the wound.
He didn’t really think that; he just couldn’t help but run his mouth.
Zhang Wangyue couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
’Damn it,’ he thought. ’That bastard Shao Santong made me prove I was Zhang Wangyue, and now this kid from the Wuling Taiping Bureau is doubting I’m a Taiping Bureau Governor?’
"I’m Zhang Wangyue! Have you never heard my name?"
Zhang Wangyue said, fuming.
"Never heard of you."
Xu Chongyuan, Zhong Guizheng, and the others said in unison.
Zhang Wangyue’s few subordinates couldn’t help but snicker, which pulled at their own wounds, causing them to hiss and suck in sharp breaths of cold air.
This bit of banter helped to lighten the heavy atmosphere.
"You’re a great and powerful Governor, yet you can’t even get through the gates of Hujue Pass. I really don’t know what to say to you."
Xu Chongyuan sighed. "Governor Zhang, tell us, what do we do now?"
"Let’s charge back in. Even if we can’t save Senior Brother Su, we can die with him."
Zhong Guizheng said with a deadpan expression.
"Bullshit! Are you out of your mind?"
Xu Chongyuan cursed. "Su Mu risked his life to get us out! You think he wanted us to go back and get ourselves killed?
"With your pathetic level of Cultivation, you’re not even qualified to throw your life away!
"If you run back in, you son of a bitch, won’t all of Su Mu’s efforts have been for nothing?
"You might feel better, but what about Hujue Pass?"
Zhong Guizheng remained silent, letting Xu Chongyuan’s spittle spray across his face.
Of course, he knew all this.
But the problem now was that they couldn’t even get into Hujue Pass. The moment they got close, the guards on the walls would attack them.
That Shao Santong had deceived the guards on the walls and wouldn’t allow them into the city at all.
Suddenly, Zhang Wangyue stood up and looked toward the desolate wilds.
Just as everyone was wondering what he was doing, the ground began to tremble violently.
