Chapter 756: Kill Them Until Even Hell Refuses to Hold Their Bodies

Her pupils slowly dilated, dazed, those voices like a clear spring, gently flowing through her heart.

So that was it...

He simply wanted to make himself feel better, and that was why... why he deliberately provoked her like this...

She unconsciously lowered her head, her gaze vacant.

Quietly.

Was it because he had sensed the emotions in her heart, and so he took it upon himself to help share the burden?

This infuriating fellow...

He clearly understood nothing, clearly kept spouting half-truths and empty words, clearly he himself was just a mere human who had lived less than a few decades, and yet... and yet he still thought about sharing others' burdens.

He really was...

He really was a hopelessly infuriating bastard!

She shook her head forcefully, her entire body trembling uncontrollably, desperately trying to shake away the moisture that had somehow gathered in her eyes, biting her lips hard, as if trying with all her might to keep the suffocating weight in her heart from surfacing.

She absolutely refused to show her weakness in front of this mere human.

Because she was the King of the Colossus.

Because a King had no need for emotions. A King should forever protect her Subjects, be worthy of their loyalty, and worthy of their sacrifice!

So... how could she fail to save them?

How could she take their loyalty, and then go back on her word, failing to deliver the glorious future she had promised them?

Her slender body trembled even more.

Those turbulent emotions kept crashing against her heart.

She bit her lips fiercely, tears swirling endlessly in her eyes. Lynn could even clearly feel her fingernails digging into his shoulders, like a young beast desperately trying to suppress its cries. And yet, Lynn could almost hear the grief and wailing within her heart.

Lynn understood.

After she had fallen and become a Root, the chaotic curse had long since suppressed her former divinity, making her no longer a god, but a mortal being of the earth.

This also meant she could no longer use her divinity to suppress the agonizing emotions within her heart.

Lynn raised his head.

This was not something momentary.

It was the heavy burden that millennia of years had stacked upon her, forcing her to constantly suppress and repress. But those emotions would not simply disappear. They would only lie hidden at the bottom of her heart, and then one day, they would shatter her completely.

"If you want to cry, then cry. Didn't you say it yourself? It's just the two of us here. No matter what you do, no one else will ever know."

"Just like in that Mental Space, wasn't what I bio-armored your own heart?"

Those low, gentle words echoed by her ear.

And finally.

Like the taut string in her heart that she had desperately been holding together, it snapped completely in that very moment.

She abruptly buried her head into his shoulder, finally unable to hold back any longer, and burst into loud, wracking sobs. As if she wanted to vent all the emotions suppressed for thousands of years, she clung tightly to his back, her grieving cries echoing through the entire dark hall.

"I really... I really can't do anything!"

"I watched with my own eyes as they were corrupted by that Flesh and Blood Root. All my favored ones, those were the guardians who had worshipped and protected me ever since I first fell. I told them, as long as they gave me their absolute loyalty, I would promise them a glorious future. But... but..."

Right here in this hall.

She still clearly remembered that withering scene.

The entire city corrupted, mad whispers filling every corner of the city.

Those flesh horrors had slaughtered their way into the city, into this very sanctuary. She clearly remembered her final loyal favored ones, kneeling in this hall, praying to her unceasingly even in the last moments of their lives, begging for her protection and divine descent.

That desperate plea still seemed to echo in her ears even now.

She had watched it all with her own eyes.

Watched those mad flesh monsters charge into this hall, wielding their grotesque forms, swinging their Butcher Knives at her favored ones!

Even now, she could not forget the looks in her favored ones' eyes before they died. Those desperate, tearing gazes that still firmly believed she would surely descend.

Their faith had not wavered even in their final moments!

But they had waited for nothing.

Even at the very end, when the entire city had gone mad and all her favored ones had been slaughtered, she had not responded even once.

"But I know, I actually could have helped them. If I had just released my power, even just a small avatar, with my strength, I could have easily suppressed that Flesh and Blood Root!"

Tears surged in her eyes, those turbulent memories tearing through her entire being, wailing endlessly within her heart.

"But I didn't."

"I watched with my own eyes as they died before me. Even in their final moments, I didn't lift a single finger!"

Her fingernails were almost piercing into his bones.

Tears had long since overflowed her eyes.

Her slender, trembling frame mirrored the violent upheaval and agony within her heart.

Lynn remained silent.

He knew she was feeling guilt, self-reproach.

For a girl who treated responsibility as almost the very principle of her life, this would become a lifelong burden, entangling itself relentlessly in her heart.

But he knew that back then, she had an absolutely valid reason not to release her power.

She couldn't.

Because it was painfully obvious, that was exactly the Flesh and Blood Dominator's goal. It wanted to force her to release her divine power. But if she truly did so, she would immediately be gazed upon by this hell, rendering everything she had worked for futile, and completely robbing her of any chance to take that leap!

Lynn raised his head and took a deep breath.

This was a cruel fate.

Lynn understood.

She had done nothing wrong. Because she carried not only the hopes of her favored ones, but also the responsibility and obsession of leading all her Subjects out of this hell.

If he had been standing in her position back then, he probably couldn't have made a better choice either.

Because this choice itself had already doomed it to tragedy.

She was not wrong.

But sometimes, not everything can be measured by right and wrong.

Even if she had an absolute reason not to act at that time, her sense of responsibility would inevitably torment her endlessly in the years to come. She could only forcefully suppress those memories, and could only use even greater coldness to disguise herself.

"Then take revenge."

Her slender, icy-cold body trembled slightly.

Lynn held her back, speaking in a low voice, yet with unwavering determination:

"The Flesh and Blood Dominator, or whatever other mastermind stands behind him. No matter who it is, we'll kill them all, every single one!"

His words were slow and deliberate, yet firm and grim.

"Kill them until even hell itself refuses to hold their bodies!"
